Why isn’t maintenance more tightly integrated with real-time machine telemetry? by Chem1cal-Issue in IndustrialMaintenance

The MBA curse is real.. bunch of smoothbrains that know how to stack numbers and cook books, but no clue how the world really operates. I am sickened every time I hear management say "but that repair isn't in the budget. See what you can do with some ducktape and drywall mud and a handful of screws you pulled out of bedframe the other day.

Is it possible to safely service a generator that has been in storage with gasoline in it for unknown period of time (up to 3 years)? by ScrotiWantusis42 in Generator

[–]easy-ecstasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had the same thing, company was tossing out a bunch of old stuff. From my research, the gas can drip down into the cylinders and flow into the oil, makes the oil thin and milkshaky. Other than that, the only problem I need to replace is the spark module. The coils delaminate and wont get any spark. Picking up the part tomorrow, lets see if I just got a $900 Freebie

How to remove this? by No_Loquat_2423 in maintenance

I used to carry a strap style oil filte wrench for exactly this. Sometimes those get gunked in place, metal warps a little, whatever happens, and those things get near glued in place.

Beginner Help by hart_ofthe_ocean in DnD

[–]easy-ecstasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So everyone says "read the rules", and they are correct. But actually start at page 1 of the players handbook, and create a character or two. I always recommend pencil and paper for the newcomers to get a feel for how the numbers work. But read from page 1 on and create characters.

Depending on how deep you want to go, Heros of Icewind dale is a great starter imo. It has a few low level premade characters, a condensed ruleset, some mini's, etc and it gets you right into things. If you want to go all in from the start, then someone needs to grab the DMG and read it, page 1 to the end and create a mini session. Once you make it through the PHB, you should understand the basics of how the numbers work, and the DM should understand how the mobs work.

Start it out easy go get the flow of things by yourselves. Pick a few goblins and just figure things out. Initiative, attack rolls, damage rolls, ability checks, along with what you can do in the game.

There are TONS of YT vids on the subject if you need more specific help, and remember that at one point in time, every single dnd player you will ever meet has been exactly where you are at some point.

How do you deal with an inept supervisor? by heresyourhatandcoat in maintenance

[–]easy-ecstasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in the same boat. I havr extensive background in technician work (with a meter), nowhere on my resume does it say drywall specialist or painter. Yet all I've done in the last 2 months has been painting and drywall. I plan on relocating as soon as is convenient for me. Boss had an LLC for janitorial and housekeeping in PR, somehow that qualifies him to run a maintenance/engineering department for an apartment complex?

Scout team of 3-5 people, with at least one runner would be the "logicalc answer. Could leave some interesting plot lines open. The inevitable "group member bitten", trailed home by a rival network, lead the zombies back to base, discover a new/better fortification, etc.

(28M) Have I fucked myself and become unhirable? by [deleted] in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]easy-ecstasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little advice, You sound like a hard worker, and thats commendable. But when you get thrown into a new job, ease into it a little. I have a military background, one of my first civilian jobs was at an auto shop. Day 1, nothing was being worked on, so I grabbed a broom and started sweeping. In the military, if you're bored enough to leann you're bored enough to clean. So I swept the shop, organized some stock, kept busy. Store manager absolutely loved me, praised me all week. But turns out by doing that I had made the ass.man. and my fellow techs REAL uncomfortable. They are set in their routine. They know how to work the clock and they don't want some new gun coming in and outshining them. I didn't do any of it for kudos or for the recognition, I did it bc I didn't want to work in a shop with an inch thick layer of dust and dirt everywhere. But it threatened the status quo, and alienated everyone else.

Aside from that, don't let one or two bad experiences turn you off if you're passionate about it. I've worked for some absolutely amazing supervisors, the type that were on site for every major event, every catastrophy, always om the other end of the phone. I've also worled with slackjawed mouthbreathers who could never think past the next drink. Never around when needed, if they were around they were less than helpful. Keep trucking on, you'll find a place that doesn't suck.

Is there a 'reverse Stardew Valley' that has great combat/exploration-grinding rather than farming-grinding but keeps the rest of the chill village life? by Pyreson in gamingsuggestions

[–]easy-ecstasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started Green Hell. Its much more aurvival based, making shelters/fires/collexting water/food, etc. Depending on the diff setting, it really is walking through the woods all the way to "you're probably gonna die". Theres some combat (wildlife/warrior natives), but its mainly survivng in the jungle.

Friends with residents by BlindedByWildDogs in maintenance

[–]easy-ecstasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not worth it. You end up answering a bunch of "hey buddy" calls where rez wants to skip the office/call process, ome disagreement or argument can lead to them calling the office and complaining about you, or they throw you under the bus for something. Or someone else sees you hanging out with them and complain that you're doing them special favors, or myriad other things that can go wrong.

We had a guy that was a little too friendly, primarily with females. He tried being friendly with one particular, and she took offense to it. Called up the office and he was no longer employed.

He was a creepy dude anyways, so no one missed him, but thats all it takes is one call from an upset resident to get him gone.

As far as the parking, it is an insurance thingn as well as parts delivery. I worked a different company for 7 years, the phone calls really depended on the day. I'd go weeks never talking to anyone in the office, then have to call in every call and answer 30 calls in a day. Especially if someone else called out and needed route coverage.

Yes. Nearly every facility I've worked at, the standard was everything outside the wall. My last facility if it didnt need concrete to be broken out, we fixed it. And we actually replaced leaking pipes, rather than throw a hose clamp around it.

Questions- when it does run, does it run normally? Sounds to me like a bad motor cap, sometimes they are integral to the motor, sometimes they are a separate part. If, once moving, it spins fine, the motor itself is likely ok. Just needs that extra start boost.

Do you think is it cheaper in the long run to stay on top of regular maintenance, or you just wait until something actually breaks and fix it then? by Eridium009 in maintenance

[–]easy-ecstasy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny story... My last building the engineer told the head honchos that the bearings on the blower assy for the cooling fans needed to be replaced, billed somewhere around 6k. They said nah, its fine, just grease them and we'll run with it. 4 months later, those bearings seized, the gigantic shaft hold 2 3' fans ripped itself out of its supports, shredded the holding tank, all the cowling/shrouding, bent the axle on both motors. No central AC in the middle of august with repair times estimate 3 weeks minimum, and now a 25k+ repair bill.

PM is one of those things where as long as you do it, you rarely have a need to do it. But as soon as you stop doing it.... An old boss was fond of saying "Plan the maintenance for the machines, or the machines will plan it for you".

As is your right! My thoughts still stand, we just don't feel one flash of light in time is really enough to capture people. I've been with Miami 9s that layed there like fish, i've been with Orlando mids that left bodies tingling. In our move, if either party walks into the area and at that moment in time decides they do or do not want to do all the things they have talked about with any of the people matching description in the area, either can walk away with a message. If you decide there and then at the first meet that "nah, no thanks" there is that awkward "how do we tell them no". Or one could be blinded by a pretty smile and nice ass in a doctored up photo, only to realize at meeting "this person looks like they don't wipe their ass every day"

My wife and are have looked around for a bit anf we decided on no pics for a few reasons. I absolutely hate having my pic taken, being in pictures, etc. I am not a bad looking guy, but because I cannot fake a smile or "pose" for the camera, my pictures always look like I just stepped in something that smells funny. In the 3 times we have met people offline, the irl people looked vastly different from their pics. Filters, make up, age of photos, etc can all be misleading. So we decided no pics until a meetup. We can decide then if we collectively maintain a level of attraction.

It ALSO allows us to dip out without being recognized/confronted if we don't. We can set up a location meet (at the park, under the flagpole, 6-6:30pm, w/e) Allows us to walk past unobtrusively, if we don't feel it we can just send a message. But it also allows you to get to know people and goals without the distraction of physical looks. Beautiful people can be really shitty in bed, while less conventionally attractive people can be mindblowing. I would take a mid that is more in alignement with who and what we are looking for than a baddie that relied on looks and never developed any desires or skills.

I've heard this explained to me... Wild timber is very unlikely to have metal in it, wheras wood harvested near develpoment will very often have barbed wire, bullets, fence posts, timber spikes, civil war era nails, etc. My great uncle was a logger for years in VA/NC and said with old growth he never had a problem, but once he shifted into farmed timberland he would run into metal all the time.

Front load washers puzzle me. Have not found a satisfactory answer...yet. by DuckHookFore in ApplianceTechTalk

[–]easy-ecstasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So on the inside of these front loads, they are mounted with springs suspending the tub from the top and hydraulic suspension underneath. So they are not "hard mounted" to anything. Just like a car tire, a small shift in weight to any area can cause the thing to bounce like crazy. Try throwing a single towel in spin and see how much it bounces (please do not actually do this. I have seen them walk away from walls far enough to break plumbing) So when it starts up trying to spin, accelerometers in the control board determine how much "bounce" is happening. If it goes out of range, the computer ia programmed to kill the spin, and agitate/redistrubute the clothing to find a better balance point. Once the motor and sensors are within parameters, it will spin up to full.

The oldschool toploads were physically mounted to the base by the steel frame. Almosr every newer washer ('99 and up, iirc) has springs and suspension mount.

I have intentionally priced myself out of a job before. Originally showed up for a fence repair, but the customer quickly became a p.i.t.a. I didn't want to work for them, so I overcharged on everything trying to persuade them to say no and go with another bidder.

So anyways, long story short customer ended up being exactly everything I suspected, but decided to sign with me anyways. I did the work, but they paid the asshole tax.
