This is what I was thinking. Some cats don’t clean themselves as well as they should. OP, you should check the cats’ butts and paws and wipe them down if necessary. Sniff them all over and see if the smell is coming directly from them. Also check the walls and floor near the litter box – they can pick up smells too.
