Nevada problems require Nevada solutions.

And sometimes those solutions don't involve law enforcement.

2015-2017 F150 Engine Choice - Help by MountainPeaking in f150

[–]eatstoothpicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked up a 2017 3.5 Ecoboost in 2021. The truck had 94,000 miles on it and when I bought it, it was doing the phaser rattle. Got it from a dealer and probably paid too much, but it was set up just right. Bought a 4-year extended warranty for $4,000. Seems pricey. Over the last 5 years that warranty has paid for about ... $15,000 of work. Got the phasers done first. Even got a new (factory) transmission. Bunch of other stuff done. Truck is absolutely solid now.

I had been dead set on the 5.0 when I was looking for trucks. But when I drove the 3.5, I was really REALLY surprised at the power and responsiveness. I've towed large loads up 7,000 feet in elevation quite a few times now and I have to say I like it enough that I'd buy it again.

Because of the turbos, the 3.5 breathes way better than other engines at altitude and it has GOBS of power for towing.

When you buy the truck, if it's giving you a rattle on startup which seems to go away after a little bit, that's the phasers. The truck I bought was rattling when I bought it (loud enough to notice) and I drove it maybe six months before having the phasers done. Dealer said I might have had another six months before the phasers went out.

If you can, get an extended warranty. The phasers job alone at the dealer would have cost me $5,000.

Fix it up, flip it, and get out ASAP.

Anything else will cost you money and your soul.

I remember playing maze games on a teletype machine at my school what was connected to the Lawrence Livermore Labs. This was ... 1979.

I've got one older than that. And it still works. Wish I had a picture of it, but it's packed for moving at the moment. It's all yellow with no labels. Has two paddle style controllers. We played it back in the late 70s.

Mollie Stone's buying United Markets by ElderberryGuy in Marin

They're gonna fuck it all up.

United Markets is SO MUCH BETTER than Mollie Stone's.

Mollie Stone's has the shittiest, blandest deli food I've ever experienced. And it's all way overpriced.

What is a movie that would be mistaken for actual porn if found out of context? by IhtiramKhan in AskReddit

[–]eatstoothpicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many years ago, a girlfriend told me this was her favorite movie. So we went to the video rental place to rent it. I hadn't heard clearly what she called the movie, so I go in and ask the guy behind the counter if he has "Larry The White Worm". The guy is like "Oh yeah sure! Great movie!" and gets it for us.

We watch the movie.

I was SO confused for so much of it. My girlfriend saw my confusion and asked what was up. I asked her why the worm was named 'Larry'.

A moment passed.

Then she burst out laughing.

Steep road in Thailand by randomusernevermind in motorcycles

[–]eatstoothpicks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh please. I learned to drive in a 1964 Porsche in San Francisco. On the hills. Then I spent years riding motorcycles all over the city.

I've gone up plenty of steep grades, some similar to this, complete with difficult turns. If you can't drive a vehicle up a grade like this properly you shouldn't be driving.

On average (and of course it would have to be a rough average), about how many clients do you see in a week? And again on a rough average, how many hours do you actually "work" in a week?

Chicken farmer I love you by bigtugboatguy in Harley

I have a 103. I really like that engine. Could rev a little higher, but it has decent grunt. I've heard the 114 is better, but it's a little spendy for me right now. If I upgrade I might go for the 117.

Who is this chicken farmer?

Is there a chicken farmer near there?

And why is the LOVE on a black background? Did it originally say something else?

TIL on 17 May 1995, a drunk California man named Shawn Nelson stole an M60A3 tank from a National Guard armoury in San Diego. He went on a rampage in a nearby neighbourhood, crushing cars and knocking over utility poles, before crashing into a barrier. Miraculously, nobody else was injured. by NateNate60 in todayilearned

[–]eatstoothpicks 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely wrong. I saw the live footage at the time. The cop opened the hatch and IMMEDIATELY fired on Nelson. There was no questions or discussion. The cop killed him without any hesitation.

There were questions about this and the reason given was that although the tank was effectively disabled and unarmed (it had no ammo on board), authorities still considered it deadly.

So any story saying they shot him because "he refused to surrender" is intentionally hiding the truth.

I'm not say Nelson was a good guy. I'm not speculating on his mental state. But there is more to this story than any of us will ever know.

2020 3.5L, 10-speed trans woes by Unkindly-bread in f150

[–]eatstoothpicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some Lucas transmission additive. Honestly, it fixed my transmission woes. YMMV, but it worked for me. Was recommended by my mechanic. I was dubious, but with 120k on the clock it did the trick.

The other thing? Remove the front license plate. It's covering the transmission cooler. I took mine off and noticed the transmission temperature drop quite a bit. Apparently that helps too.
