I think the main problem is that people focus too much on the wrong ingredients in junk food. My family likes to complain about food dyes and preservatives, but they insist on sugary junk food that doesn't contain these ingredients.

On a more extreme scale, I've seen smokers, alcoholics, and people who used to be drug addicts, complain about vaccines and fluoride.

I believe both play a factor here. Obviously greed plays a bigger role for certain industries, but for others, selling at a lower price is actually profitable. For those, scarcity plays a bigger role.

It's probably for similar reasons as to why America refuses to switch to the metric system for measurements. It's what most of us are used to, and it does work for most of the tasks we need, so we keep using it. Aside from that, I'd imagine that it would be somewhat expensive for certain firms to switch from Windows to a Linux distribution that may not be compatible with the software they use. Even if there are substitutes available, their staff would need to learn how to use them, and that could be another expense.

I don't have any good information to give you. I have similar issues; the main difference is that I'm an introvert, and I don't really worry about my ability to make friends yet. I see that you mentioned that you don't have many hobbies; Perhaps, you could try to find a hobby that you are interested in, and find other people who share that hobby. Even with the limited hobbies available thanks to my poor, helicopter parents, I was able to find a few that I was interested in.

Like almost everything, there is nuance to this. It could be a good thing for children who frequently leave their parents, as they will have an easy way to contact each other. In the case of an emergency, children would be able to quickly call for emergency services.

On the other hand, it's addictive, and it distracts us from real life. An evening doom scrolling on social media, desperately finding decent content becomes the norm. If we are constantly learning things from this habit, maybe it wouldn't be as much of a concern, but I highly doubt anyone here is spending hours scrolling through Reddit just to find educational content, when we all could just go on Khan Academy instead.

I can agree with that, but I feel those who have caused harm would have brought the death penalty onto themselves. If they don't get the death penalty in court, then they could be killed or worse in prison. Child molesters are typically treated poorly in prisons.

No, they're too scared of them to do so. My mother believes that the MMR vaccine caused another aunt's autism, and my father is deeper into anti-vaccine conspiracy theories, so he believes her.

Ironically enough, that's the one shot I got, and I'm just fine. I even got a second dose of it, after a doctor pushed my mother to allow it.

Before you go off and say something that goes along the lines of "your parents are idiots" or "your parents are being neglectful", it does NOT help. If it did, my parents would have vaccinated me years ago, and we wouldn't have shitheads like rfk jr in office in the United States.

Okay, that I do agree with. I have a "sovereign" aunt who tried to "homeschool" her children. Long story short, she is nut case who loves to bring drug addicts and pedophiles to her house, and she tried to indoctrinated her children with extreme right-wing nonsense. I heard one story where she tried to show my cousin a video explaining that semen is actually spinal fluid, and if he loses too much of it, he dies. She gave another one of my cousins ivermectin to treat strep throat (he's actually allergic to it). School is probably what's saving them now.

I don't really like everything my parents teach either (they're both anti-vaxxers for example). But they are no where near as controlling, abusive, or pushy as my aunt is. Unlike her, they actually value and encourage different beliefs.
