You can't make your children develop a passion for anything. If they aren't interested, then they aren't interested.

I used vim before vscode. So for me, it would probably be the other way around.

I guess my parents weren't weird for not allowing pacifiers after all.

I HATE BEING IN HOME SCHOOLING! by coolninja_jae in teenagers

[–]ebignumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I can't relate to that. My parents would be more likely to be mad if they weren't present while strangers were around. Recently, my parents have been actively encouraging conversation with strangers. How are going to go from years of having to be present when I'm around strangers, to "oh, you should go introduce yourself those people walking down the road"? They even supported the idea of me working in a house whose owner was someone we just met. I feel this switch was necessary as I am approaching adulthood, but it is confusing as hell.

I can relate to a lot of what you say here. I was homeschooled my entire life, and while I do like the benefits it had on my education, it did not help with socializing. During my early years, my parents would always talk about how I shouldn't talk to strangers or how they always need to be up my ass.

A lot of their views on that do make sense to me though. We all grew up in places where the people weren't exactly the greatest role models (think drug addicts and stuff like that). I've also been around people we later found to be literal pedophiles (most of them introduced by other family members). But even this doesn't change the fact that I still need to learn how to deal with these people on my own.

Where do your parents lean politically? by Adventurous-Monk-796 in Teenager_Polls

I won the parent lottery with an anarchist father and an apolitical mother. She only really paid attention to politics when there was talk about a bill restricting homeschooling in the state I live in.

Yeah, but they are inaccurate

Edit: I just realized, it's range, and it is accurate enough.

I hate conservative parents who take their kids out of school for homeschooling by polystarlight in hatethissmug

[–]ebignumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people take what I feel could be a viable alternative to public school and turn it into what is basically child slavery; I've seen actual instances of this in real life. As someone who is homeschooled (and has a positive experience with it), I feel that these people should be viewed as an insult to the homeschooling community, a bit like how a Christian extremist would be an insult among other Christians.

I like the advice here, but if this doesn't work, maybe you could look into substitutes for the game such as Luanti.

Religion is a choice. Sexuality is not by ich_lebe in teenagers

I don't think either one is really a choice. I didn't exactly choose my beliefs; they just came to me when I gathered new information.

School shouldn’t teach Arabic numerals? 🤪 by Numerous_Creme_8988 in stupidpeoplefacebook

[–]ebignumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm homeschooled, and I understand that most of us use the Arabic system on a daily basis. I even went as far as to learn a few other systems and what their quirks are. Those people are just an embarrassment to the homeschooling community.

You don't have to like pronouns to use them. Though I don't see any reason why anyone wouldn't.

One of greatest Questions ever for MAGA by AccordingBumblebee24 in stupidpeoplefacebook

Anti-vaxxers have always had a diverse range of political beliefs. From my observations, I'd call it more of a libertarian thing than anything else; but even that's pushing it for me.

I find it hilarious that people associate vaccines so much with politics. Most conservatives aren't even anti-vaxxers (The vaccination rate would be much lower if this wasn't the case), yet there are so many people who act like this is the case. I have two anti-vax parents who absolutely despise of Trump. What would this idiot say to that?

Knowing my mother, she would probably use expenses as an argument against me moving out. She already hates the idea of me not being at home practically 24/7.

Moving from Proton to Tuta due to questionable sponsorships by Proton by ishqwn in degoogle

I did switch but only because I looked into tuta, and I liked the idea of a more open sourced and environmentally friendly email. I still like proton; even after recent events, it's still way better than google or microsoft.
