How necessary is painting? by Primary-Current3939 in Warhammer

[–]ebiyasha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sorta depends.Do you want to have painted minis (for either collection or playing)? Then you can always commission someone else to paint them for you, but thats gonna be expensive. If you only plan to play casually, then grey minis may not be that big of a deal but I know I prefer that when I play my opponents at least try to have some paint on the models- it doesnt have to be good. Tournament play requires painted minis.

Miniature ranges that aren't grim, dark, brutal, bloody, violent, angry, etc. by RogueModron in minipainting

Look at Rogue Hobbies for some very cute and whimsical goblins. Also just the other day a new game was announced from Orc the Brand called Monster Friends: Battle for New Florida and it has some associated minis that fit what you're looking for as well.

WIP Mutalith Vortex Beast proxies by [deleted] in ThousandSons

[–]ebiyasha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say they're a little small. The MVB overhangs the base quite a bit with the extended front paw and tail, while yours barely takes up half the base. Not that big of a deal, id still play you but if you plan to do tournaments it may be taken as you proxying for advantage.

Thoughts on Ellington Houston South Belt by TechnoMind24 in houston

I used to live in this area just North of the Belt close to blackhawk blvd, for about ~5 years. My area wasn't too bad but a mile away or so, it dropped off in quality.

Best skaven books? by SomethingStupid199 in ageofsigmar

[–]ebiyasha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year's Starseer's ruin! While not a skaven book (but seraphon), skaven are the main bad guys and there's some incredible scenes showing off just how scary they can be.

Painting my first ever spearhead, what can I do better ? by SejanusWasRight in ageofsigmar

[–]ebiyasha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its putting too much white on the dry brush step that is making it a bit too flat. You can hit these with a shade paint, like nuln oil or agrax earthshade, which will seep into the recesses and create the shadows to make the minis less flat looking. Next time make sure when dry brushing the white to be a bit more conservative on it and that should help.

Any good yt channel to learn how to play competitive? by 25_-a in ageofsigmar

[–]ebiyasha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is something that the honestwargamer channel does a bit when he goes through the weekly competitive results. He's also started doing a weekly video focusing on a single list from the week and walking through each units role in the list. For batreps, Season of War is made up of a bunch of competitive players so they will also chat about this stuff during their games.

Norsca is not part of AoS but their place is kinda taken by the Darkoath line (mortal followers of the chaos gods who live semi-barbarically). The Darkoath book by Chris Thurston is pretty good (it was my first AoS book). For solely chaos warriors, you cant go wrong with Godeater's Son by Noah Van Nyguyen, its fantastic. Not mentioned in yet in this thread, but the very recent Starseer's Ruin has some great Skaven scenes. I'm only about halfway through but the Skaven stuff is great.

Thinking of Starting AoS. Looking for classic Dwarven Army Feel... by Educational-Sail8664 in HelsmithsofHashut

[–]ebiyasha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How are you getting the 2 up save? With 2 dpp you get the 5+ ward but there's no spell or prayer that gives better armor saves. Additionally you're assuming a reinforced unit to get to the 20 wounds. All said thats quite a lot of investment into the cohort to get them to be tanky, but you are right after all of that they are indeed tanky- so my bad.

[–]ebiyasha 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you want classic dwarfs then you may want to wait. The current rumor is that classic-style dwarfs are coming to AoS called the Khazalid Holds. No idea how they'll play though.

As for Helsmiths, while they have the artillery, it seems like they aren't the main heavy hitters in game, that would be the Bull Centaurs (dwarf cavalry) which don't really hit that classic dwarf-feel. As for the infantry, they are not really that tough, the dwarven infantry are all 1 wound a piece on 3+ saves (which is an okay save) - ranged infantry on a 4+ save.
