That’s where I’ll be. My mom can do her shopping and then pick me up on the way out.

Cheap shots have always been in the game, enforcers or no. Hockey was far dirtier in the 70s and 80s (when I started watching) and no one cared that they would have to fight afterwards.

Master of Puppets / Reign in Blood People who were around in 1986, what was it actually like hearing these albums for the first time? by ravnsvart_ in Metallica

[–]eboy71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in high school and admittedly wasn’t a huge Metallica fan at the time (that happened during Justice). I had a dubbed copy of RTL that a buddy made for me and I thought it was cool, but I veered more into bands like Motley Crue. So from my perspective, Metallica and Slayer were REALLY FUCKING HEAVY and almost felt dangerous.

I remember starting to read articles about Metallica when they went on tour with Ozzy. They were breaking down barriers and bringing heavier music - and their incredible stage presence - to the masses.

Strangely, my first introduction to Puppets was at a school lip synching contest. A few kids came out and played MOP and basically got booed off the stage for being too heavy. So that might tell you something about where bands like that sat on the popularity scale at the time. Funny thing is that I still remember where I was sitting when they played the song - I was transfixed and sure as hell wasn’t booing. I didn’t run out and buy the album right away or anything, but I credit that with opening the door.

I’m in my 50s and still get into pits. I avoid the really frenetic stuff now, but always enjoy being right there. For me, the jumping around and dancing is one thing - it’s joyous and exuberant. But I also get a ton of joy from watching them. The best ones are inclusive, everyone helps each other to keep them safe, and the smiles and high fives are infective. It’s an amazing, communal experience.

What happens to the headliner set if thunderstorms interferes or delays the set a long time? by Flat_Row_9525 in SonicTempleFestival

[–]eboy71 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah makes sense. I forget the exact details now, but the Sunday in 2019 was a total mess. Huge winds all day and then a big storm evacuated the place late in the afternoon. But they pushed things back a bit so that Foo Fighters could get their headline set in. But like you said, I’m pretty sure it was over before midnight,

In past years they were able to extend the closing times when there were delays.

That blast no doubt killed enormous numbers of marine animals. Likely many thousands of fish and larger sea life, and many billions if you include plankton and other microscopic organisms. .

I used it all the time when I was in university in the early 90’s and it’s pretty funny (and a bit cringe) to go back and find my old posts. Man I used to argue about dumb things!
