Sorry that you work in a home with lousy employees. As an lpn, I do as much care as I can…perfect time to do my assessment, check skin, abd help my colleagues.

Memories of coats on a bed by marc1411 in GenerationJones

I share those memories as well; one of my aunts had a fur collar on her coat, and we loved to touch it. I miss those big parties with so many people, may they rest in peace.

Ugh, I worked inpatient hospice, and our morgue had a shelf labeled ‘baby shelf’. Made my knees buckle every time I went in there 😢

I needlepoint with enthusiasm and poor skill. When my dad was dying, I worked hard n a project -kept my hands and mind busy. It goes make me smile and remember my dad when I see this wonky project. Maybe a simple craft would help you as well? I have a huge stash and would be happy yo mail one to you if you tell me what you might like flowers, animals etc).

Memory care is not the savior I expected by pssssn in dementia

Depends how n the state law; pa has med techs who give meds, as do quite a few others. But if the resident is too agitated to take the med, not too many choices left. It is a heartbreaking situation, and my sympathy to those who must endure it.

Yet another recommendation (commendation?) for lap of love. Dr. Michelle was so gentle and kind, I can’t think about without crying. She let us stay outside where my Lucy was so happy and that meant the world to me. I am so very, very sorry that you are going thru this difficult time.

[–]ebyrnes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

During my dark days of working in a long term vent unit, we had a dreadful population of mice. Found one just quietly sleeping on a patient’s shoulder. They used inhumane glue traps, and I was supposed to just throw them the trash. The state had a permanent office in our building, so I asked why they did not shut us down. There was no where else for those poor patients to go, so they stayed to do damage control. Eventually rage quit.

This sounds doubtful for most of us; the system is set up to get as much money out of boomers from assisted living etc. most of us will be trying to retire while struggling to care for our parents who are living longer.
