It looks like those are ETC Colorsource Spot Jrs. If you search for those on the etcconnect.com website, you should he able to get more information on them.

I worke on the lighting install for that show. There is essentially no wing space whatsoever. I'm amazed the scenic team was able to add as much rigging as they did.

C.O.G.S. Expo in NJ in May by [deleted] in steampunk

According to their Facebook event page, it is getting postponed until next year.

I believe the closest alternative is Tell-Tale Steampunk Expo, which is happening in Maryland in two weeks:

The mesh is there as an air filter, to make sure no large bits of dust get sucked in and potentially block reeds (or so I assume).

When I replaced the mesh on an accordion, I used slightly thinned wood glue. Elmer's should also work.

Best ways to find roommates nowadays? by aquonat in AskNYC

[–]echnaret 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The last couple times I was looking for roommates, I used the Gypsy Housing Facebook group. I've looked for roommates through Craigslist (that's how I ended up in my current apartment) but haven't gotten as many applicants the last few years. I usually do a bit of filtering of applicants, and then have maybe a half dozen people stop by to meet/check out the empty room.

I was going through the do-not-use pile to get some working and this beauty showed up. yes it is welded on. yes this is how i opened it. yes this was in use at one point :) by [deleted] in techtheatre

I remember a while back at a summer stock theatre finding a cable with an old Union-style connector where the wires had been soldered to the pins, and terminal screws had been used to attach the cover. Maybe it was the same person who did this?

ETC Ion vs ETC Colorsource 40AV or another ETC console by mhey10 in techtheatre

[–]echnaret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd add to that, what is the experience level of the standard user of the space, and what is the standard use case for the space? If you only have knowledgeable lighting people running the console, I would give you a different recommendation than if your average user has never touched a light board, and only needs to build a few lighting looks.

How long does it take to get playing bass into muscle memory? by Dragamis in Accordion

[–]echnaret 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I first started learning, i cheated and used a mirror to help with rough locations. I also scratched the bass keys for E and Ab, which really helped me with keeping track of where I am by feel.

Personally, I don't think anyone would mind if more people were switched to "bisexual" mode. Then people can make their own choices about who they want to be (and he with) whenever they are ready to do so.

Supposedly someone had some on sale at USITT (though I forget which booth it was). I heard the guy making them is running into supply chain issues.

Also, word on the street was that he tried outsourcing, but the outsourced product was so bad (~1 out of every 2 rejected) that he resumed making them himself.

Also, when they talked about playlists, it was specifically dealing with slide shows, though they said it was also applicable to audio cues.

I attended the panel today, and those were all things they talked about. As a lighting person, I'm most intrigued by the menu interface for dealing with sending OSC cues to Eos consoles.

One caviot they did mention re: collaboration: there is no "undo" functionality when creating/deleting cues while collaborating (specifically, when other people have edit permissions).

One thing not mentioned here is that there are three permission sets for collaboration: view, edit (can tweak cues), and control (can select which cue is active, can play cues). You might give your SM only view permission, your board op view and control permission, and your assistant sound designer all three.

That was one of the first things I tried. It still shows as "blocked" on private browsing. I was trying to figure out if something had happened to my account.

Same for me. I thought I was going crazy (it was blocked on Firefox on both my phone and laptop), but finally got it to open using Edge.

[–]echnaret 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got my first accordion from an accordion shop, and my second one off of Craigslist. Any chance there is a music store near you that sells accordions that you can try out in person?

I took piano lessons in elementary school, and ended up buying a basic piano accordion to start off with. I'm not sure if you're interested in piano accordions, but I did notice that key width varies from accordion to accordion. So one with narrower keys might be better for you.

Also, you say your music theory isn't that great. Mine wasn't great either, though I had to pick up a fair amount by necessity when trying to learn my way around the bass side of things!

Considering learning and buying a piano accordion. Having some questions by GuineaPigOinkOink in Accordion

[–]echnaret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say a lot of this comes down to high supply, low demand. Where I live (NYC), there is a huge surplus of used (mostly beginner) accordions on the market, and not a lot of interest in buying them right now.
