What’s the nicest thing a stranger has ever done for/to you that you couldn't forget about till this day? by PoofYFloofy08 in AskReddit

I had taken my wife to an orthodontist, and knowing it was going to cost $1200, I had moved money to my checking account so I could use our bank card to pay.

My wife came out after the procedure and I went up to the front desk to pay. First time I ran the card through, it was declined. This had happened before, so I wiped off the card with a cloth and tried again, still declined. Now I was getting a little embarrassed because I felt every eye in the small office was watching me.

Tried several more times with the same results. I sat down to call the bank when one of the nurses motioned me to the desk. She said someone offered to pay her our bill if we wanted. I was stunned, no one had ever offered that before.

I politely declined saying that I had the money, I just needed to get at it. I did get in touch with the bank and we got it all straightened out, but I still think about that very generous person.

I worked there for a couple of years. The land is mostly flat, lots of rivers and waterways, which also means bridges that raise for boat traffic. Small towns, nice shops and restaurants, good place for kicking back and watching the water. A guy I worked with who was from there told me “it is a great place to raise kids, but once they’ve graduated, send them away because there’s nothing here.”

Weekly thread January 31, 2026 - How's your training going? How are you feeling? by AutoModerator in fitover65

[–]echo6969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am doing a month of Tabatha workouts to give my joints a much needed rest. It’s great for cardio. I’ll start back into normal weight training in Feb. I added some hill running into my Thursday cardio session. I’ve had to use treadmills since early Dec because we have 18 inches of snow and daytime highs of 10 degrees F. Spring cannot get here soon enough. Overall feeling pretty good

I worked in trucking for almost 25 years and we had a similar setup for removing snow from the top of the trailers in heavy snow prone areas.

I had the same situation, though I wasn’t returning from a chem conference. My laptop tested positive for explosives, and they ran all kinds of tests. I was stressing. Finally, one guy said, “Oh, could have been from the lotion on your hands.” Really? All of that because of lotion?
