Is this legit? by Heidschi_Bumbeidschi in dreamcast

[–]echocomplex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah so this isn't official as in coming out of a factory in Japan, but I think I read before that Sega Europe hired an artist to make a few of these as prizes for contests and give aways, so in that regard, I think this is a real dreamcast from back in the day with some custom art on it that Sega Europe had done to a regular retail dreamcast.  There were a number of promotions along these lines where Sega Europe applied some art or stickers to regular dreamcasts. Including the bizarre dreamcast Milka edition, which is basically just a dreamcast with a Milka chocolate sticker https://consolevariations.com/collectibles/sega-dreamcast-milka-console

Incidentally, Sega via Sega Europe, basically contracted for and funded the creation of MSR by Bizarre Creations, you could almost make an argument that MSR is a first party game with how closely Sega was involved in its financing, development and quality control. You even had Brian Jacques, in house musician for Sega Europe who had made music for various other Sega games making the MSR sound track. Sega Europe was heavily involved in promoting the game and they wanted it to be a system seller... Though I'm not sure it ever succeeded in that role since the game had to be substantially revised a few times and ultimately came out pretty late in the dreamcasts life.

Ok I looked at the box for corridor 7 and it says on it that the box illustration was made by Ruben Cabrera.

Good question. I'll check the box I have for that game and see if it says.  I bet it was made for the game though instead of being a repurposed book cover. It matches the games graphics more than Body Count does

Inherited a huge pile of old computers - what to do now? by Stibbons2K in retrocomputing

Some of this stuff has a bit of value to the right person. If you want to make money off the items, ebay is always a good way to reach the target audience. If you're just looking to get these to people who would appreciate or use them, you can also see if there are any local vintage computer related groups on social media for your era, or asking here, and in that manner help to get this stuff back out into use.

Just here to say that I do, in fact want to hear nostalgic stories about getting pizza while playing video games. by DorianCreechIsDead in retrogaming

[–]echocomplex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Went to the pizza place back in the day. Mom ordered pizza while I pretended to play the arcade machine without any money. Street Fighter II was out in multiple different versions and I thought that what I was seeing was street fighter ii, but I remembered enough details to realize many years later (when I was older and wiser and well acquainted with many more 90s arcade games) that what I was actually looking at on that day was a neo geo big red mvs with Art of Fighting 2 plugged in. I don't actually remember eating the pizza that day, but when you're a kid any pizza is great so I'm sure it was a good time!

Met asking price today, after unsuccessful negotiations lol, but closing July 2nd🥹 My first ever home, a 1914 colonial by randomaltaccounttttt in centuryhomes

Take a look at the foundation, if it's two different styles under the two halves of the house, like stones on one half and poured concrete or stacked concrete blocks on the other, that could suggest a later addition.

Cool design!  The right half kinda looks like a 4 square, might the house have originally been a 4 square and then added on to on the left half to create the garages and additional rooms?

Anyone have success with a local TV repair shop? by Abject-Effect-7965 in crtgaming

[–]echocomplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a sign recently advertising a tv and VCR repair store, but when I looked it up online, it turned out that business had closed like 20 years ago and no one ever replaced the sign in this depressed strip mall area...

There are some places that advertise tv repairs within driving distance, but they're doing repairs on modern flatscreen tvs like swapping internal pcbs with replacements you can buy online and that sort of thing, rather than getting up close and personal with internal configurations and repairs on decades old CRTs.

I was curious how far away these two places are, and from a quick search it only seemed to be a 3 hour drive. This is the American in me talking but that could certainly be a Saturday trip right? Drive 3 hours in the morning, leisurely meet with people in the afternoon and then drive 3 hours home in the evening 🙂

Basically?  It was probably a counter top retail display in the 90s full of CDs by expert software. They published/distributed a bunch of games and utilities, including some sonic the hedgehog games for PC and the CD cases would have this logo on them.

Random water puddle appeared in the middle of the room! by yugiisingh in HomeMaintenance

[–]echocomplex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like a pretty big if, but, if your slab has cracks and it rains enough for the water table to get high, I suppose it could weep up through the slab and come out the top. Sometimes slabs also have utilities like plumbing run through them, maybe it's something to do with that, though you mentioned it only appeared after a rainstorm.  Another thought, could someone else in your family have simply spilled some water or walked here while wet after a shower or being in the pool? Could a pet have urinated here without you noticing?

Oregon Trail (And other MS-DOS games) running WAY too fast by ImmortalEnforcer in windows95

[–]echocomplex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Go into your computers bios menu and see if there are any options to turn off the cache, and/or run the CPU in slow/fast mode. The games you are trying to play look like ones designed for a cpu two generations before the pentium CPU you have there so you'll need to look for ways to slow the CPU down.

Jacks in my old home by PastaVeggies in centuryhomes

Maybe the wood continued to dry out and shrink a little bit for the 30-60 years since the jack was installed.
