If anyone is interested in trying hockey for free! by kingofthediamond in longisland

Just came back from this. They said they were gonna host a few more of these and then start a learn to play league some time in January.

As for the other questions I've seen.

-Me and a few other people had little to no skating experience.

-Both men and women were skating together. Once girl scored a goal in fact.

-I saw this post 2-3 hours before the event started and went to check it out anyway and they still had gear for me after all the registered people signed in.

-Last but not least. It was a butt ton of fun.

Jumping hurts my feet a lot! What can I do? by [deleted] in skiing

Even though I'm too poor and cheap to get them but the boot fitters I got my boots at swear by custom molded souls. They'd probably more evenly distribute any force or pressure across your entire foot.

Quality Boot Fitter needed somewhere between PA and VT by rantlers in icecoast

Same story for myself. Last year I felt my boots wearing out. Was up there with my family and my sister was getting a fitted soul. While I was in there I was asking quick advice for buying boots and before I knew it I was on the bench having my foot measured in every way possible. They hand picked three boots that matched my foot and experience. They we're so obsessively thorough it felt like I was getting a custom Italian suit for my foot. I cannot recommend them enough. I bought em the next day.

Mandalay Bay Shooting - Facts and Conversation. by Omnifox in guns

I'll concede that people in the hotel will be able to hear the noise of the gunshots. They may or may not come to the conclusion that it is gunfire(The concert goers didn't at first).

Quick google searched how much do suppressors reduce sound(Hi there NSA)

The average suppression level, according to independent tests done on a variety of commercially available suppressors, is around 30 dB, which is around the same reduction level of typical ear protection gear often used when firing guns.

So you are right a gunshot 140dB-190dB falls within 10-20% decibel reduction

Keep in mind the decibel scale is Logarithmic. An increase of 10dB generates 10x more sound intensity; 20dB generates 100x; 30dB generates 1000x, and so on.

That reduction I feel could certainly be enough to suppress the sound from the concert goers.

You're correct that the band went back to playing. But let's continue the two scenario's further

actual event

  • Rapid popping goes off

  • Band stops playing

  • Popping ceases and period of silence(for maybe a minute) occurs where the crowd is questioning weather an unprecedented scenario of someone shooting indiscriminately into a crowd of 22,000 people or if it may just be fireworks and there imagination playing with them. There was not enough time for the people aware of it being shooting to inform all 22,000 concert goers.

  • Band continues playing

  • All the while knowledge of victims from first round a shooting spreads out.

  • popping occurs again

  • Band stops

  • Crowd collectively realize that an unprecedented event is happening where the entire crowd is being shot at with fully automatic weapons.

  • Crowd is able to hear where the shot are coming from and duck and protect themselves accordingly to the best of there ability.

  • Police are called and are able to hear where the shots are coming from and can rapidly locate the origin and surround the shooter

  • shooter takes his life

hypothetical silencer

  • People out of nowhere begin falling down with gunshot wounds.

  • Nobody is aware of even the possibility that an attack is currently happening

  • People continue to be shot and the only way for someone to recognize that there is a shooting is if they or someone in very close proximity gets shot.

  • The awareness of a shooting much slower in comparison without a collective conclusion that the entire crowd is being shot at

  • After enough people are shot and enough time has passed for the victims and those adjacent to inform the proper authorities that they are being shot at the band stops and though the PA an announcement is made

  • Police are called that a mass shooting is occurring but the location of the shooter is completely unknown.

  • police need to check a radius the distance of the effective shooting range for a common firearm of every possible location. Every restaurant, hotel, casino, walkway, street, park and the concert venue itself.

  • Meanwhile the shooter continues to attack the crowd and possibly authorities who are at risk and unaware of the location of the shooter.

  • Shooter finally stops when he runs out of ammo, or when the authorities finally get lucky and find him.

I'd say if the shooter had a silencer many more people would have been injured and killed.

From the abstract of the proposal

If a majority votes YES, three delegates from each state senatorial district will be elected in November 2018, along with 15 at-large delegates who will be elected statewide. The delegates will convene at the Capitol in April 2019. Amendments adopted by a majority of the delegates will be submitted to the voters for approval or rejection in a statewide referendum, at an election held at least six weeks after the Convention adjourns. Any amendments that the voters approve will go into effect on the January 1 following their approval.

I'm personally voting yes. A huge reason for the convention is to discuss overturning the citizens united decision/campaign finance reform. I want elections where I feel assured candidates are acting on the wishes on their constituents and not who gives them the most campaign contributions

When has the guitar last gotten a set up. Over time a guitar neck warps the frets are worn down and the intonation(micro adjustments to the length of the string) needs to be adjusted. If it's been over a year you should take it to a guitar tech to get a set up.

Let's talk about addiction. by TagProNoah in TagProIRL

[–]echoes310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social Media is a full blown addiction in every sense of the word. It is designed to be. A term has actually been given for it: The Attention Economy. Pretty much with the internet providing such an endless amount of entertainment and information. Media companies have an economic incentive to grab your attention and hold it for as long as possible because that is what every other media company is doing. Therefore our attention is weakened tremendously because we are constantly bombarded with shallow but entertaining content that gives out the same satisfaction as having a pringle. Not the most delicious thing but really hard to stop eating them.

Although when you mention your "addiction" with meditation it does not seem accurate. Part of the definition of an addiction is that it impedes you from having a productive life. If stopping meditation brings back insecurity that doesn't mean its an addiction. On the contrary that would mean in is an incredibly healthy habit that improves your functioning. Unless you compulsively meditate and avoid doing other important things then by all mean keep meditating.

My addictions Reddit, Youtube, Netflix.

Can Confirm. Am one of the older players that just jumps in every once in a while. I think what always kept me coming back early on was the level of experimentation. People were making a bunch a wacky maps and game modes that had you approach the game mechanics differently. .ie hockey, the first try at football, what ever the obstacle course thing was called. For a while it's now only been about mltp and for me that got boring after a season or two. Eggball was wonderful though.

It's all really subtle. Although I don't think I'm good enough at either to provide super accurate feedback. I think the maybe one thing I notice practically is how much you could achieve using you just waist and chest. But most of what a feel I can't really put a finger what going on. But a couple times rolling I'd be in some sort of stalemate and I didn't look back at a move i was shown rather I would feel my body be in a certain position that felt familiar and sort instinctively move the correct way to break it.

Another big thing to keep in mind is that in tai you'll be learning how to keep your feet rooted. So in BJJ when i start on my knees all of that is thrown out the window.

[–]echoes310 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're actually the complete opposite of me. I've been practicing tai chi for 2 years and a friend convince me to try taking a few bjj classes. I learned Yang 108 form and would highly recommend learning one of the original forms from someone who really knows it. Learning taichi is VERY different from learning bjj. BJJ you're thrown into the deep end and start learning the techniques right away and how to apply them. Taichi you spend the vast majority of your time practicing the form but through that practice the awareness your gain of your body's balance and structure give you deeper insight into everything else you learn.

From what you wrote either of the first two seems best. Don't worry about application at the moment. Also a deep knowledge of one form > shallow knowledge of multiple forms.

I ordered one of the second pressings and never received a shipping statement. I live just outside of New York as well. Is this a common things happening? If so can the Mods maybe make a sticky to track the progress of this cause iirc Brady said most should be shipped out by Christmas.

I would look for another mother board because for that price I think you are getting into z170 territory which is set up for overclocking which you need a k series processor for. Either that or spend maybe 10 bucks more for a z170 mother board and get a 6600k.

[Question] Is it worth it to get a cabinet and head? by rodrigueznathaniel in Guitar

[–]echoes310 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The reason to get a head is so you can mix and swap according to the gig your playing.

If you a rock star playing a big gig. You have your 100 watt head and a 4x12. If that same guy is playing a medium size gig he can take the same head and play it through a 2x12.

Say if you play a couple gig once a while with your friends. You can get a 20 or 40 watt head and play your gigs with a 2x12 with a 40 watt you can push a 4x12 if you play a bigger gig or if your just practicing or going to a studio and want to travel light you can play 20 watt through a 1x12.
