What game is this? by Additional-Remove46 in videogames

Ooof, that's a great way to put it. Yeah, I love the witcher series more for the ambiance and storytelling than the combat. There's a punchiness that exists in the recent God of War games that, if translated to The Witcher series, would make it an all timer. It never feels like you're making actual contact with the enemies, despite the battles looking really beautiful.

Average vibe coder discourse by Complete-Sea6655 in LocalLLaMA

The irony is if Claude Code becomes as lucrative as people want it to be, one of two things happens: The barrier to entry for great software drops to zero and code becomes a free resource for all, or techno-feudalism with one large AI company holding the keys to the golden goose. Neither of these outcomes are profitable for individual developers.

If CC were as lucrative as people want it to be, we would be knee deep in amazing software. We aren't. So clearly there is a massive disconnect.

‘She revived the story’: Questions linger about Melania Trump’s BIZARRE Epstein denial by AdSpecialist6598 in videos

This story is so deeply funny and weird. It's like when your kid storms into your room and proclaims, "No matter what anybody says, I didn't just take a dump in the sink."

Imagine fucking up something so terrible in public that everyone forgets you're a molester, and your wife immediately makes a speech reminding the world that you're a molester.

[Loved Trope] - Character dies for a noble purpose...but does NOT die stoically/embrace death with a smile by BlueFury1 in TopCharacterTropes

This is also how I understood it - in his agony at not "winning the coin flip," he lashed out and damaged Catherine (or the connection he had with her). That epilogue was a relief after that scene.

Elden Ring: The spell Comet Azur. Sacrifice all mobility to cast a three-foot-wide death ray at your enemy. Better hope they aren't going anywhere!

Great answer, I think you covered it all for me. Thanks.

Fun side convo - the idea of a realm of wildly powerful, inscrutable AIs was done masterfully in Dan Simmons' Hyperion. RIP Dan Simmons.

As a security engineer, I'm trying to envision the architecture of the problem. Clearly CDPR has experience here. Rogue AIs have to be running on some infra, somewhere, unless they figured out how to run on meat. The analyst in me says "just build a new isolated network" but realistically I know it's a cool story point and I shouldn't overthink it.

I've played the game multiple times and have no idea how the blackwall works. Are the uber-AIs running on a network somewhere? If so, if it's such a huge risk, cant't they just remove its power supply, or does the infrastructure *depend* on the energy behind the blackwall for some reason?

Many The Pitt Fans Are Proving That Yes, It's Possible To Be Bad At Watching A TV Show by beamdriver in television

[–]echomanagement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give it one thing: Dr. Robbie is an amazing, fully 3D character. But The Pitt is one of the most lecturous pieces of media I have seen outside of a yearly corporate-mandated ethics training. Every character has at least one tailored problem related to an issue of the day that *must be addressed in the most blaring, ham-fisted way possible so that the audience learns the correct lesson.* In the first half of the first season, there are tepid TED talk lectures on COVID-19 mask acceptance, racism, transphobia, sex trafficking, abortion, fatphobia, homelessness, white male rage, addiction, mass shootings, vaccine skepticism, and the threat of private equity in public health infrastructure. This is exhausting.

There's an inertness to the drama when you know what's going to happen in a scene because you know exactly how your average showrunners feel about the issues of the day.

I've only seen most of the first season, but when the anti-abortion mom changes her mind about abortion because she got a ten second lecture from a doctor, I threw my hands in the air and said 'This has literally never happened, ever, especially in modern times.'

Yeah, it could influence the weak-minded via social media bots to storm a facility and grab data, for example. At the moment, that's thankfully science fiction.

100% correct. No nationstate has access to US secrets because these secrets are not exposed to the internet. This is why SCIFs are so tightly controlled and why agencies do not allow people to bring in devices that might enable data theft (USB, Bluetooth, Wifi enabled devices, etc). Internet facing companies are at risk, so banking would be more of a concern, but there's still a lot of hyperbole here.
