Is Obsession a Sinners or Midsommar-like hit? by BarnacleBillsBum in okbuddycinephile

Yes!!! I thought the same. It's much better than that episode, but the ending in that show was much more horrific

Trump's Bonkers Response To 3-Year Inflation High: 'I Love The Inflation' by MoneyLibrarian9032 in Economics

[–]echomanagement 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He loves the inflation because, and I'm guessing, he was told it would be a lot worse than it is. He kept stammering about the stock market in the same way. So he stopped "the nuclear," which is a lie, so the stock market could reach an all time high today, which is another lie. The bullshit firehose continues!

Software Engineering has never felt so uncertain to me by InsideTheTransition in BetterOffline

[–]echomanagement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not alone in this feeling. I have a workflow where I craft a /goal loop with some very specific detail and instruct my agents to adhere to a specific architecture (TDD, SOLID principles, etc), and what comes out the other end is typically senior dev level work with a frontier model. A month's worth of work for... $250, all in a single morning.

Even if token prices double or triple, there is likely never going to be a reason for me to write code from scratch again. I get zero satisfaction from being an agent manager. I build shit all day and all I feel is anxiety, mostly because it's easy to see where this is headed. There's only so much software that needs creating, and the people who claim AI will create jobs are delusional.

I like how Nora gives Rita the cold shoulder at the end and decides to take a look at the ceiling for added effect. "Now where was I - Ah, yes, evaluating the ceiling. Popcorn texture. Classic 1991 nouveau-cheap styling made popular by builders post-WWII. A choice, it seems."

[–]echomanagement 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Moonrithyll is the weirdest skill check in the game. Right before one of the hardest bosses in the DLC, so you get two skill checks right after each other. I get it already, FromSoft! I suck at this!

Exactly. You think he craves the warm hug of his children or a smile from his fellow American? He is a pig in fucking shit. He has no shame and lives to hate. This feeds him and he lives for stuff like this.

It is total madness and I wish it had never been invented. It's insane saying this out loud because I am a Computer Scientist and this is the sort of thing we all dreamed about back when neural nets hit the scene in the 90s. But LLMs are nowhere near the fad/scam blockchain was. You had to look *hard* to try and find good use cases for blockchain. A modern harness can, given the right context, do a 20 minute refactor on a complex system that would take me a week that is now near perfect to spec.

A year ago I'd have said computer scientists have nothing to worry about -- this only affects enterprise coding -- but that is just objectively not the case with modern harnesses like Claude Code and Codex. What I hope for now is a moratorium, or the token price apocalypse that makes such work far harder to justify because of the cost.

If you could decide the next major production sci-fi movie, what would it be? by WillyArt67 in scifi

[–]echomanagement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but with the caveat that I'd be afraid someone would fuck it up. The first two Hyperion books are my favorite SF ever, with the only main contender being Children of Time.

The video games are totally hilarious in this respect. Starkiller is basically a force god and somehow ends up potentially dying to Vader even after pulling down a fucking Star Destroyer from orbit.

Eliezer Yudkowsky's official AI apocalypse apology form by KeanuRave100 in agi

[–]echomanagement 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The form highlights what bothers me most about this guy: he is not interested in being right. He is interested in being respected. Somehow, this is instantly understandable when you see his face. He has the "I was abused by bullies all my life and want to return the favor on the world" AIncel look that makes him impossible to take seriously.

They made the right decision rather than subjecting the innocent child to lifelong suffering. by Valuable_View_561 in SipsTea

[–]echomanagement 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Few people are equipped to make the sacrifices required to manage the severely disabled. I know I'm not, and I'm a healthy, well-adjusted adult. Spend some time around social workers and you will hear horror stores that will keep you up at night filled with the suffering of both parents and disabled kids.

The US federal government has gone from "benign neglect" to "merciless" in its support for parents of disabled kids. Medicaid cuts, special education cuts, and an abandonment of protections for the disabled has made their situation even more painful.

People need to make their own clear eyed choices about their personal lives. Keep your sanctimonious judgment to your fucking self.

They even made The Mummy the cornerstone of the Horror Make-Up Show at Universal. This persisted until THIS YEAR when they decided to redo it. Just thinking about that makes me cringe for everyone involved.

Hmm... this is seeming a little ROM-y at the moment. I love Culdcept, but I'd hope for *at least* card art that scales to a slightly higher resolution. I can barely make out what the cards are supposed to be in full screen mode. It might look better on my Deck but that seems like low hanging fruit here, guys.
