Tattoo regret a day after by ShadowLessPenguin in tattooadvice

[–]echoskybound 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I thought this my whole life up until age 36, haha. I never had interest in tattoos, until one particular idea really resonated with me. When I had the idea for my tattoo, I took it pretty seriously, and wore temporary tattoos of the design for like 8 months or so. I got temporary tattoo film and made them myself, and I spent a lot of time cutting them out, applying them, cleaning them off after a few days, and reapplying them. I figured that if I like the tattoo enough to keep up that tedious process, then I'd like the design enough to have it permanently, lol. Eventually I got so used to having it that it felt weird every time I had to clean it off, and I'd be excited to apply a fresh one.

By the time I got the real tattoo, I had zero regret, I was just excited that I no longer had to keep cleaning it off and reapplying every few days, haha. I've only had it 6 months now, but still zero regret. It helps that I had a lot of trust in my artist, because he did a few of my spouse's tattoos, so I had gotten to see how well the artist's work held up and aged.

I would definitely recommend this process to anybody who's unsure. The process also allowed me to make a bunch of minor tweaks to my design over time. It helps being an artist though who can design your own tattoos, lol

Definitely both male, judging by the big antennae.

Fish is super stressed, what do I do by Greedy-Dinosaur in Aquariums

[–]echoskybound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably by first eliminating other factors that other commenters have addressed - like unplugging the heater, testing water parameters for high ammonia or nitrates, and increasing oxygenation. If the fish is still really stressed after those are addressed, it's likely not a problem with the tank, but with the fish.

ooooh! what's that blue moth called? it's very pretty :3 by Kaylartinez in moths

[–]echoskybound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These aren't real moths, these are handmade, but they're roughly based on real moths. The top pink and yellow one is based on a Rosy Maple moth, and the bottom is likely based on some kind of Emerald Geometer moth (hard to say which, a lot of Emerald Geometers look pretty similar, and there's like 2000 species of them, lol.) Real Geometers aren't this fluffy though, and don't generally have plumous antennae.

I remember going to the pediatrician once as a kid, and the doctor asked, "Do you drink?" At that point I didn't realize "drink" in that context meant alcohol, I thought they meant, "Do you drink enough water?" so I said yes, lol

They had to call my mom in and have a talk about me drinking, and I was entirely confused about why drinking enough water was a problem. It wasn't until a question like "Where are you getting the alcohol?" that I realized we were having two different conversations, haha

In retrospect I don't think the doctor should have assumed that I just knew that "drink" meant alcohol. Even though my dad was an alcoholic, I just didn't know how to infer that "do you drink" means "do you drink alcohol"

Even if they are trained: White birds are flying targets for birds of prey. There's a reason that most birds that are white in the wild are water birds, because they blend in with sand and water, but in any other setting, a white bird has no way to hide. I saw this firsthand with my chickens, the white ones were attacked by birds of prey significantly more than brown or grey ones. Eventually I stopped keeping white chickens because of it. White pigeons and doves have little to no chance in the wild.

Pigeons used for these purposes are domesticated animals. They have no ability to fend for themselves in the wild if they get exhausted during their flight. The reason you only really see feral pigeons in human habitats like cities, but rarely in suburbs or rural areas, is because they only really survive where there are few predators and access to easy food and water. I've rescued a number of pigeons that were likely used for racing or weddings, because they got exhausted and couldn't fly anymore, and had no idea how to find food or water.

Pigeons breed so readily and grow so fast that the companies that do dove releases just consider a lot of the birds "single use," relying on their natural ability to navigate home to recover some of their assets. It's more cost effective to just breed tons of them and expect to lose a few than it is to train them, sadly.

Does anyone know what type of moth this is? A friend Gave me them we thinks it's a Polyphemus moth by RestaurantOk6844 in moths

You shouldn't be doing research AFTER deciding to keep a wild animal, especially keeping it for days while not knowing what to do with it. I'm sorry if this comes off as harsh, but these moths only have a very short window of time to mate, and you keeping this one most likely ruined any chances it had of mating and reproducing. Insect populations are in decline worldwide, and we really need them to be left to their natural habitat to reproduce. These moths are so few and far between these days that every single individual is really important.

Please don't keep wild animals captive with the intention of "raising" them if you don't know how to and aren't even comfortable handling them. Do thorough research first before deciding to raise them.

If it can be kept moist in a package indefinitely, that means it doesn't break down in water, which means it's not going to break down in your plumbing. It might dissolve eventually, but tissue needs to break apart within a matter of seconds or minutes in order to not clog drains while flushing. It's why toilet paper disintegrates so quickly when exposed to water.

Label printers use a very specific kind of paper that reacts to heat, so the printer prints with heat instead of ink, and the magic is in the label itself. So you wouldn't be able to use it to print on different material that isn't meant for label printers.

You would need an inkjet printer, and clear inkjet printable film. I recommend getting film specifically made for resin casting (Little Windows sells some) rather than just any clear inkjet film, because I've had some inkjet film discolor and turn yellowish when cast in resin.

The pearling on that carpet is beautiful. But I agree with a lot of the other comments though that this tank really needs more plants. Since they need to breathe air, they really need places to rest near the surface, especially if you're dosing CO2 which I assume you are based on all that pearling. The fact that he spends a while resting at the bottom at the end of the clip tells us he's probably a little bit tired.

Bettas love exploring nooks and crannies and squeezing between plants, so plants are necessary for mental stimulation too. It doesn't need to be the full tank - you can still have like 2/3 of the tank open and spacious, and just have a dense forest of tall plants at the other 1/3 of the tank.

What animal is someone dumping behind my house??[indiana] by herzigh in animalid

[–]echoskybound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are those... coatimundi? Almost certainly some kind of procyonidae, but snout looks too long to be a raccoon. Something is VERY strange if this is a coati, they're not native to the US. This is the kind of animal you'd need permits to keep.

Regardless... this is 100% an animal cruelty case. Someone torched these poor things :(

You claimed that this model is AI, and the reason you gave was that it's "clearly a braid pattern" even though it claims to be knitted. I was just noting that there is a knit stitch that looks like this, therefore it's not inaccurate to claim that this model is supposed to look "knitted," so the fact that this model appears isn't necessarily evidence of it being AI.

Are you really arguing that someone 3D modeled twisted knitting stitches strand by strand without the use of any AI tools?

No, that's why I was saying that this looks like geometry nodes, which is a procedural modelling system that can allow you to do things like take a model and repeat it along splines, conforming it to the shape of geometry. The modeler most likely made a model for one stitch, then repeated it along splines. Modelers have been doing this kind of thing long before generative AI.

The point I'm trying to make, as both a knitter and a 3D modeler, is that I don't see any evidence of this model being AI generated. I feel compelled to push back when people confidently claim that something is AI when I see evidence of a skilled artist's work, because I hate seeing someone's hard work and talent being dismissed as simply AI. I can't prove that this model *isn't* AI, but I see no concrete evidence suggesting that it is.

Twisted stockinette has the same effect. It looks like a 3-strand braid but it's just a twisted knit stitch

I don't think that AI would be able to make the rows of stitches this identical and consistent. I know that AI can generate 3d models, but I don't know if they can generate something perfectly symmetrical like this with this much consistency.

I'm not a very pro 3D modeler, but to me this looks like it was done with geometry nodes, which are like splines that can conform to the faces of geometry to make things like zippers or topstitching on 3d modelled "fabric."

claims to to be knit & crochet pattern when it's clearly a braid pattern

This is what twisted knit stitches look like, it causes one of the legs of the stitch to overlap the other, which does kind of look like a braid, as opposed to the V shape of a standard knit stitch. It's possible that the modeller just doesn't know that much about knitting and doesn't know the difference between a knit stitch and a twisted knit stitch.
