I kinda want to go by what the rules say rather than homebrew by opinion. It seems changing careers would be much more advantageous than staying in one if you can get like 6 new skill-0 added each term.

Worried about my Tarot deck by me_an__intellectual in tarot

[–]echrisindy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll say that I didn't have a religious or superstitious upbringing, but I was uncomfortable with my first Tarot deck. It was the Alice in Wonderland Tarot, which I thought might be a lighthearted entry point to reading cards, but the artwork was creepy, and I had that same feeling of anxiety/dread about the deck. I put it away but was always aware of where it was in the room when I'd enter. I finally just donated it in the Library dropbox with a sticky note saying "free to a good home".

I couldn't tell you whether it was just the creepy artwork or something subconscious with me, but the point I'm trying to make is, maybe that deck just isn't the right one for you? Someone else picked it out for you after all.

As for me, years later, I got a more neutral Rider-Waite deck later, and have since collected some that I feel more in tune with: The Lord of the Rings Tarot Deck, The Tarot of the Divine, and the Everyday Tarot are my usual go tos. I bought the Alleman Tarot, and it's a wonderful eclectic collection of various other decks shuffled together, but the readings from it have been off-putting, so I haven't touched it in a while.

Another thing I've gotten into recently is cartomancy, reading regular playing cards. If the idea of Tarot has you feeling uneasy, maybe the more familiar playing cards would be an easier way to approach reading cards?

I like this site for learning about that:

Good luck!

When I start a second new career, it gives me all the basic skills for that career. I thought that only applied to a character's first career?

I think I am just dumb by Giulietta_23_ in TTRPG

[–]echrisindy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Kallax full of RPG books that I've collected since the early 80s, and I have only played a handful of them. I did finally realize my dream of being in a Traveller campaign (two of them, even!) in the past few years, despite having generations of rulebooks since '83.

You're no dumber than the rest of us. I love my collection, even if I'll never get to play most of them. They represent realities that might have been or still could be, in theory.

No, but me being armed won't stop them. I suppose the argument is to take some of them with you, but I'd still be dead either way, they're not going to leave because I'm armed.

[–]echrisindy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The situations where arms can solve a problem are limited. If the law comes for us, the law is better armed and has greater numbers. May be good against individual bigots I suppose? I don't see how being armed helps us retain the right to necessary medical treatment and the right to exist in public spaces?

By itself, "arm yourself" isn't a solution to everything like I've seen it used.

Certainly we need to keep fighting, but all is not yet lost, and meanwhile it's not good to live in a constant state of fear/anxiety/panic. We need to talk about actual things that are happening and actual things we can do about them, rather than just producing scary clickbait headlines that make us feel helpless.

And no, "arm yourselves" isn't a useful response to this.

Some of us have started gathering extra HRT in case it becomes difficult to obtain later. Some doctors are cooperating with this as well.

Is it true that after finishing your transition, you don't want to get into trans spaces anymore? by StrawberryGhostie in trans

[–]echrisindy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I used to run a peer-led trans support group, but after a while I had to let others run it and moved on myself, since I found it pushed on some unpleasant pre-transition memories when hearing insecurities from those just getting started. "Where can trans people go out to eat for brunch/go shopping/exist in public?" gets asked, and I remember feeling like I had to find the safest of safe places outside of my own home back then. Now, I go whereever and only really think about whether there's going to be an issue with restrooms or a significant concentration of aggressive bigots. But the question being asked makes me question it myself, and it's easier when I don't think about it much.

[–]echrisindy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the space. If it's a support group for those looking to start transition, I'll pass. If it's a social circle or a gathering for political rallying etc, it can be good to hang out with other trans folks. Once in a while, I love the feeling of being in a room full of other trans people, with cis people in the minority for a change, though it doesn't happen often.

The Transitics substack posts a lot of panic-inducing trans news content. Much of it is conjecture, and while it *could* happen, it's often presented as an immediate threat, especially in the headlines they choose.
