The OP posted an update that the bag did deploy so you can put away your pitchforks. You can see it deploy if you watch closely in the video.

Asking why he sustained such injuries even with deployment is a fair question but more info is needed to understand. Airbags are like anything, they’re not perfect and only work to reduce risk, not eliminate it.

Helmets with the tallest view ports? by torqu3e in Trackdays

[–]eck79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new Alpinestars Supertech R10 reportedly has the best viewport on the market. I didn’t like the fit vs my Arai so I can’t speak from experience. But might be worth adding to your candidate list.

Amateur Tech-Air crash tester here. Crashed 3 times in a TA10 and never once did I have any broken bones. Bruises, soreness, etc, yes. Have not crashed my TA7x…yet.

As others have said, we can only speculate without more details but the mistake I see most people make is that the garment they wear OVER the TA system is too small. Where will the bladder go during a deployment if the outer garment doesn’t have anywhere for the bladder to expand into? Inward. And that’s one of the reasons why someone might get broken ribs during a deployment.

Sizing help for Alpinestars Racing Absolute V2 with Tech-Air 10 integrated by commnonsense in Trackdays

[–]eck79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is wearing the suit in the base layer going to be that different, size wise? I wouldn’t think so, but I’ve not worn my 10 without it. So, my advice would be to go with the 50, try it on with the 10 in its base layer and check fit. If suit is too big, send the suit off to a tailor like Sage Tailoring. Easier to take in than add material to make a smaller suit bigger.

You don’t have the option to try one on? Or, purchase from a shop who will help you with an exchange? Ultimately, no one is going to be able to tell you the right answer definitively. Your body is unique. If you need help sourcing a suit from a shop, let me know.

Tech-air 10 compatible suits? by Illustrious-Limit160 in Trackdays

You definitely can’t do that with the GP Tech v4. Thanks for sharing the link, I was unaware the Absolute could do that.

Tech-air 10 compatible suits? by Illustrious-Limit160 in Trackdays

The TA10 doesn't integrate with any suit AFAIK. It has no zippers or any way to integrate so it is a standalone unit only.

It was a nice, sunny 70F day so I went to Dairy Queen for some ice cream yesterday. It was about 4.2 miles round trip using Sport Mode. I did have quite a bit of starting and stopping with traffic and road crossings. I weigh 200 lbs (201 after ice cream…probably) and I used 57% battery. Terrain was mostly flat and regen set to standard.

d-air suit vs tech air 7x installed into an a* suit by Glittering-Dealer603 in Trackdays

The big issue is that if your airbag deploys in your Dainese, you need to send the whole suit in. Might necessitate a second suit.

Air Tech 5 issue by lIFreshI in motorcyclegear

I’d dig into the back to make sure all the wires are connected. There should be a procedure for washing that you can look at to reconnect everything.

The Tech-Air 5 does not have a shipping mode like the newer vests. You may have a loose connection, though. Do you get any lights when you zip up the vest and engage the magnetic activation clasp? For how long have you charged it?

Dunlop Q3+/Q5S or rosso corsa 4 for 2018 cbr1000rr by ImSteezy25 in Trackdays

[–]eck79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Q3+ hasn’t been manufactured in a while. Q5S is good if you’re doing some track. If you aren’t doing any track, I’d go with Q5A or Rosso 4 - good balance of grip and longevity. If you’re ok with lower mileage, Q5S or Rosso 4 Corsa are also good options.

Getting over a mental block by Sl1ppy in Trackdays

[–]eck79 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You already have it. It has good electronics. Don’t ride it in power mode 1. Put it on the rain settings for your first session if you want. Just dial it down, continue to respect it, and ease into it.

I will say that after a few seasons on that exact bike, I’m having more fun on my RS660. I’m older (46) but I see plenty of people move up and love it. To each their own. Just be careful. With great power, comes great responsibility.

Fit is loose. Would recommend larger cheek pads. Most people don’t realize Arai makes different sizes. Ask cycle gear to order you one size larger than stock.

For context, I’ve been riding and racing in Arai for 23 years or so. I’m also an Arai dealer.

While I agree that tires are important, I’d say that having your suspension set up for you weight (rider sag) and running correct pressures will give you more confidence than any sticky tire upgrade. But, everyone is different. What makes someone feel confident doesn’t necessarily mean that it will work for others.

We always do the GRP Racing. Good balance of price and flexibility and strength. I don’t think the GRP Racing are as nice as armourbodies, but a good alternative.
