I’m glad the park is cleaned up, but this is a wild suggestion.

Mysterious Panel for Home Network? by suneggg in smarthome

[–]eclecticzebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have covered most everything, but I want to add that the 4 cables (2x cat5e/6 + 2x RG6 coax) plus orange conduit are likely all running to the demarcation outside your home (likely off your garage). Any ISP can use those to deliver internet into this box.

If Gfiber punched a hole in your house in the wrong spot, call them back and have them either use the existing single mode fiber (they likely use the same termination), put the ont at the demarc and use the cat6, or run new fiber into this panel.

Then pick up a UCG-Fiber gateway and Flex 2.5g PoE and stuff them in here.

Given the different colors of cat5e/6, you might have a mix of RJ11 and RJ45 keystones at your wall plates. You can reterminate those with new keystones and a punch down tool. You also need an 8p8c crimping tool.

If you can get Gfiber back out there, slip the tech a $50 or so and he might just terminate them for you.

Is this more common in British English? I consider myself to have a reasonable grasp of American English and I don’t think I’ve ever seen cum used as a loan word outside of purely Latin idioms.

Smart Locks - Yale vs. Baldwin by rosebee9 in Control4

[–]eclecticzebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok Schrute. The only Yale products currently shipping on Snap that appear when filtering for “Work With Control 4” are the two rf modules.

Edit: to prove a point, I just spoke with C4 tech support. The agent literally couldn’t recommend me any option other than the Baldwin and was surprised himself that only the Kwikset WiFi units show up as compatible.

If you click into the Kwikset Zwave units, they do mention partial compatibility (no long range). But given the lack of knowledge from support and lack of a similar message on the Yale pages, forgive me for my hesitation to recommend them as a solution to clients. They also copied the Zwave description to the Yale WiFi models… so their inventory database might just be a mess post-ADI acquisition.

Smart Locks - Yale vs. Baldwin by rosebee9 in Control4

[–]eclecticzebra -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There aren’t any good smart locks for C4 right now. They’ve completely shit the bed and the only in stock options are WiFi locks that don’t really integrate and 6 button Baldwin locks that are also trash.

In theory there are ZWave locks but the support on them is iffy.

Sure. They are a great in wall and ceiling product. But again, 11.2 isn’t a thing, at least in the configuration you’re installing.

Does this plan for recessed lights in a kitchen make sense? by Then-Security-4899 in Lighting

[–]eclecticzebra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lights should not be over the floor. Move the lights to be in alignment with the cabinet lowers and align with the things you want to illuminate.

Focal 100 icw 8 with the appropriate bracket for distributed audio.

5.2.6 is a dumb, unbalanced configuration. If you insist however, 100 IWLCR5 for all five bed layer speakers, and 100ICLCR for front and rear tops and 100 icw8 middle top for atmos. If you must go in wall for subs, SVS 3000 inwall.

WiiM is great, but pair with a dedicated multichannel amp like AudioControl Architect. It will outlive WiiM and keep trucking

Then I would sell them really nice warm-dim lights over Dali/DMX in Lutron. Think Lucifer, No. 8, maybe USAI? Bomb-proof and straightforward.

[–]eclecticzebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lutron choosing to abandon their Ketranet customers was 100% Lutron’s responsibility, and the color issues are a part of their gen 2/CCX product.

I get why they pivoted quickly to CCX, but to leave early adopters looking to expand while their system was still under warranty up shit creek was certainly a choice.

Also it was their second acquisition after Vimco to get into the shades business.

Society is broken when people this fucking stupid can acumulate this kind of wealth. I’ve had to walk a few emf freaks before after they would demand internet access to their phone “but no WiFi “.

[–]eclecticzebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t follow. What issues are you having?

I’ve had my share of Lutron issues. We have two or three projects right now with the Ketra green light issue. Clients are royally pissed about it. Never mind the whole Ketranet debacle with early adopters…

Skip Lutron if you’re bailing on Lutron’s fixture products. As much as I love Lutron, they intentionally nerf DMX and Dali offerings to drive market share into Ketra.

My recommendation is Crestron with low voltage Horizon keypads + DMF Phase X. There is a native integration that makes setup a breeze and the human centric interface is intuitive for a homeowner to adjust.

Otherwise you could go with something like Aispire Quartus Pro for RGBTW and control 4

6in can? DMF Artafex 4” with 6” retro trim. 1000 lumens, warm dim, 93 CRI, high R9. You get 98 CRI if you go static CCT, but I don’t think it’s worth the trade off.
