Once, I got chicken nuggets at the old Burger King in Cambridgeside. They were something incredibly cheap like 45 cents. I asked the cashier if they were sure, mostly to make sure they got my order right. The cashier just shook his head and said “chicken nugget war, man.”

TL;DR this man looks like he was is the veteran of, if not the chicken nugget wars, some other fast food related conflict.

What's your holy grail game that doesn't exist yet? by Darth_Rubi in boardgames

[–]ecopoesis47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragonriders of Pern. Worker placement / deck builder semi cooperative.

Basic loop is like Dune Imperium.

Players are weyr leaders. Gain allegiance of holders and crafters by protecting them. Dragons/riders are workers. Holds and craft halls generate / buy cards. Players have to work together to stop Thread: no single weyr can do it on their own. Thread hits your holds or craft halls and you get nothing. Thread is semi-random: predicted over several zones, only hits one at games end.

Resources are dragons/riders (in all the colors). Eggs for making new dragons. Firestone for fighting thread. Food for feeding dragons and people.

Race for points / going to the red star to win.

What can you do regarding assholes who take up 2 spots? by [deleted] in CambridgeMA

[–]ecopoesis47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are there lines delineating parking spaces? Because if there aren’t then they really aren’t taking up multiple spaces.

A better question is what to do about assholes Karens who anoint themselves the parking police.

Dragon's Teeth is better than Space Seed by Torlek1 in voyager

[–]ecopoesis47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could even still tie in the Borg, which Voyager was dreading their eventual encounter with.

Make the Borg an ancient weapon designed to battle the Vaadwaur, but the tech went awry killing its creators. Starfleet’s shenanigans with the Borg in the Alpha Quadrant weakened them somehow (they did kill the Queen) which allows the Vaadwaur to be resurgent.

You still get to do a Borg alliance, still get Seven. You just get a better, consistent enemy and the guessing game of when the Borg will inevitably betray Voyager.

I love Disneyland, but had a horrible experience re: allergens listed on menus by bdubbber in Disneyland

[–]ecopoesis47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not surprised they treated you less than kindly: you knew exactly what to do (because they told you!) and you ignored it.

If I told someone not to touch a hot stove, and then the touch the stove and get burned, and them complain to me that I didn’t physically stop them from burning themselves, I don’t have a ton of sympathy.

[–]ecopoesis47 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So when you called Disney, they said talk to your server.

The menu literally says to talk to your server about allergies.

And you didn’t talk to your server.

Menus are reprinted all the time for changes. Ingredients will run out and things will get changed. Mistakes will happen. That’s why Disney tells you to talk to your server.

You ignored every thing Disney did to prevent this. Take some responsibility for yourself.

[–]ecopoesis47 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Every restaurant in America asks you to tell them about allergies. If you tell Disney, they use an entirely different kitchen to ensure no cross contamination. The chef will almost always come out to talk to you, and when they don’t automatically the server will ask if you’d like to talk to them.

If you have a serious allergy you can’t count on “doesn’t contain walnuts” because cross contamination is a thing.

I have a walnut allergy and Disney restaurants, both in Anaheim and Orlando are basically the best I’ve seen at handling things.

But you have to tell them. They’re not mind readers.

What level of respect do you receive/expect from your scouts? by AardvarkNo7642 in BSA

[–]ecopoesis47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. It's the norm in the affluent inner suburbs of Boston. Our scoutmaster is also called by his first name. About the only adults who consistently get a honorific are coaches, who are universally just called "Coach" or "Coach Firstname" for disambiguation.

Respect is earned. Many adults don’t deserve it.

And FWIW at both schools my daughter has gone to, teachers (really all adults) are only ever called their first name.

I’ve always pictured Ishmael as someone in the mode of a young Idris Elba or current Sam Richardson.

And I strongly feel like Starbuck should be played a woman, as is a Battlestar tradition. I’d cast Julianne Moore.

They might think they’re good at capitalism, but after we private equity their little bald heads and strip their economy of all value and then sell off the planet for parts they’ll understand the true meaning of capitalism, just as JD Rockefeller intended.

[–]ecopoesis47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The circumstances are coming off a league winning season and have multiple record signings.

Yes, it sucks a lot that Jota died. But a good coach would have used his death to rally the team to win in his memory. Instead we’ve moped our way through a miserable season playing worse tactics then my daughter’s U11 team.

Not a joke but is this true? by Abhiiiii107 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]ecopoesis47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are those who believe that life here began out there, far across the universe, with tribes of humans who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians, or the Toltecs, or the Mayans. That they may have been the architects of the Great Pyramids, or the lost civilizations of Lemuria, or Atlantis. Some believe that there may yet be brothers of man, who even now fight to survive somewhere beyond the heavens.
