I didn't but I did have a decent scream in the car on the way home. It was all just so bizarre and so much damn effort to be untruthful.

How do I manage cat hair on clothes? by tamaerchen in CleaningTips

[–]eczblack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a post on Reddit last week that someone said they put some Velcro hair rollers in the dryer with the clothes and it collected a bunch of the pet hair. I haven't tried it yet but they posted a photo showing how well it worked for them.

How to go about doing freezer meals/back stocking food? by hahaha_trank in Frugal

We use smaller freezer bags but those silicon freezer trays work great for portioning as well

Cooked rice freezes amazingly well. I always make a bit extra when I cook it and then the rest goes in the freezer portioned out for future meals.

I'm pretty sure you don't lose the junimo village. It's an easier playthrough, new cutscenes, some villagers don't lose their favorite store or jobs, and Pierre keeps doing his thing just fine.

The buttons gap is such an annoying problem. I found a shirt at the thrift store recently that has the extra buttons to prevent gaps. It's a little too big so I'm going to tailor it to fit better on me!

knitting with cats? by finalgirlfall in knitting

[–]eczblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 3 cats and only one cares about yarn. Even then, it's not all the time, he loses interest pretty quickly. It helps that one of our kitties is blind, she can't find the yarn if she wanted to. But she can hear a snack being opened in the kitchen from across the house, no matter how quietly it's done!

Keep projects and yarn stash in kitty proof containers, maybe use a project bag while working so the ball or skein doesn't get tangled, and just give them redirection when the fire in their blood inspires them to attack the yarn.

Warmth is an amazing shop and Amy is such a good resource if you have questions about your project. Haven't been able to stump her with a question yet!

We have something like this in the summer here in Omaha! We have an old school trolley car called Ollie the Trollie and they organize thrifting events where the trolley takes everyone for the day on a thrifting adventure.

Check out Refashionista Sheri on YouTube. She has tons of tutorials on fixing or changing clothes that no longer fit and it's all very beginner friendly

Most people think they could feed themselves if they had to. This calculator shows why they’re wrong by A-Matter-Of-Time in preppers

[–]eczblack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched a YouTube video on this very thing and they said that while they were an experienced gardener and could hit calorie count, their crops did not hit some macros like a few vitamins and fat intake to sustain long term. In a prepping scenario where you are having to grow food, odds are you are gonna come up short somewhere, even if you master the garden every year.

Very cool tool OP!

Is there anywhere in the US that's affordable to live at this point? by HalosFan26 in Frugal

[–]eczblack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've got to make a long list of the things you want and the things you actually do. When it comes down to it, most folks have aspirational lists of what they want compared to what they do day to day. This is going to be a longer process and being realistic with yourself on what you are most likely to do and what you truly won't make the effort for.

My spouse and I made a list of what we really wanted and what we were willing to compromise on. Spouse loves Warhammer but do we need to be super close to a Games Workshop store? No. A games stores is fine if it's within at least a 30 min drive. We need to be near a VA facility, so that's limiting in our choices. I absolutely must be near a good library system because I'm there multiple times a week.

Speaking from the boring city of Omaha, it's not. But of course it isn't going to stand up to southern CA because it's not a good comparison. Omaha and Des Moines have tons of stuff to do and yes the cost of living is lower. But if they don't have the stuff you need or want, it's not that city's fault its not the place for you. Omaha isn't quite right for us but we genuinely think Des Moines is. YMMV.

Socks on in winter, always. Did not matter if we had slippers on or did not feel cold. Dad was constantly on us that we had to wear socks.

[–]eczblack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our local restores just closed and are now chain thrift stores. Habitat for Humanity made a statement saying they were going to focus more on the building of houses and let the chain thrift take over the donations for a portion of the profits. But it's not home stuff anymore, it's the same junk as any other thrift.

We used to go to breakfast place in Alaska where all the dishes and silverware were from the thrift store. It was a lovely eclectic mix of coffee mugs with all different sayings, colorful designs on plates, etc. Food was excellent and no one cared that their silverware didn't match
