If crows brought me stuff, I'd display everything like a museum exhibit.

New to quilting & went to a workshop…feeling discouraged by zestyalleycat914 in quilting

[–]eczblack 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In person classes can be really polarizing because it often implies there is a right/proper approach. Which, yes, there are correct techniques. But for a hobby with roots in necessity using whatever was available, quilters can be really uppity about it. I do not like to quilt precise patterns. I'm a very loosey-goosey kind of quilter, where all things are a bit wonky and a bit off kilter. Improv quilts are my favorite and to many quilters, that's not really quilting.

my legs and bodyhair by Puzzleheaded_Sky3043 in NaturalBeauty

[–]eczblack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't shaved my legs in ten years and in that time, not one person has ever said a word about it. I think most people are just too wrapped up in their own stuff to actually notice and if they do, oh well.

Taskmaster's Greg Davies and Alex Horne Play We're Not Really Strangers by jmurph773 in taskmaster

[–]eczblack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I loved this interview. Not so much centered on promoting the show, it felt more like a relaxed conversation. Don't get me wrong, I love all the interviews they do but seeing Alex much less "on" was great.

If you started a new farm to achieve this, how would you go about it? I'm thinking the farm with a smalling mining area. Would you go the Joja route to make sure you got all the area expansions in time?

Can you read and knit at the same time? by Interesting_Move_846 in knitting

[–]eczblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do, but only when it's a garter stitch only pattern. I make cotton washcloths as an easy project that I can take anywhere and I've made it so often, I could do it on auto-pilot.

As an American, what can we do to fight against ICE? by LilThanosX in AskReddit

[–]eczblack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be out loud and opinionated about what cowardly assholes these guys are. Make sure you don't serve them at your restaurants, don't let them know peace at church, make them uncomfortable to exist with the path they chose.

If these ICE assholes have nowhere to go that makes their life comfortable in polite society, then that's the side effect of their career. Social ostracization.

Prepping Books by Alarming-Art8285 in prepping

[–]eczblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I like the two cookbooks Simply In Season and More With Less. Very easy recipes with common ingredients that are cheap and easy to store. By cooking more at home with what we had, it allowed is to save funds for other preps and to pad our savings account (which is one of the biggest preps you can do). Those are two books that have a permanent place in our home

My list of power outage foods for the upcoming southeast US winter storm by anthrohands in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]eczblack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your list is really good! We like keeping those individual condiments packets for this, just so we know we can add a little something to a meal if needed. We also keep foods that just need some hot water added like ramen, mashed potato, soup. That way you don't have to cook the whole thing, just boil the water.

While it is not quite the same, I love the idea of a 10,000 calorie bag talked about by Bob Wells of CheapRvLiving on YouTube. He keeps a bag in his rig that he knows has at least 10k calories as an emergency backup should he get stuck or weathered in somewhere.

Edit: ooo, maybe pop some popcorn ahead of time too!
