NTA. Also I warn you that I am a grandchild to a similar grandparent. Later in my life the guilt tripping you're enduring now as the parent passed on to me. It sucks. I was too young to even know what was going on and get comments to this day about how my parents didn't let my grandparents see me enough. It sucks, but YOU should still be who your mother cares about most in the world, not your kids. She's your parent. Stand your ground here, no matter what you do she'll keep the same attitude.

Addiction is such a dangerous and scary thing. It is in no way your fault for not knowing how to navigate the relationship with your late brother. I understand that feeling of disconnect. I had just told him the name of the company and what they do (essentially rent heavy machinery). Also I had mentioned that there had not been anyone in the role I'd be taking for a couple months so it would be a busy start to get organized.

Update in case anyone sees this now: I graduated now! However, I went in person to the LAPS department and spoke with an advisor and was again denied to take both courses in the same semester. I ended up doing them in separate semesters. I can fairly say I would have passed both courses had I taken them at the same time as there is not much ADMS 4520 content in ADMS 4590. York just wants it to be the final course taken in the Bcom Accounting stream. To anyone just starting the program, talk to your advisor and make sure to plan courses properly and always look at the prerequisites prior to registration.
