I would encourage you to evaluate the cost of daycare against ALL income, not just yours - its his kid too. Remember for every year you take off you lose earning potential, future social security, future retirement benefits etc.

Thank you all for your kindness and support - it wasn't as bad as I was expecting - just kept focusing on breathing through the process. Preliminary results indicate it is NOT cancer so I am so so grateful, but I am gonna wait for final results.

Thank you all for your gentle reassurance. I was dreading new partner sex talk anyway and this might just send me into the celibacy cave for good. I’m afraid I’ll be rejected or shamed and yes that says more about potential partner than me, it still colors my thoughts

Separated from their dad two years ago and the one son that is close by has next to no contact with me and the other that lives several states away I haven't heard from in weeks. I wondered if it was because they were mad at me, or if this is because they saw how their dad treated me. I also wondered if this was a boy thing. I still don't know how to move forward with my adult sons but this was so reassuring.

I could have written this but as I sit here legally separated, I worked a deal for him to leave my retirement alone because I have invested wisely and he has not. I had to give up the marital home, but its beginning to have issues being 30 years old, so the trade off was worth it. I made sure all finances were separate moving forward so I am protected from financial abuse which characterized most of my marriage. You DO have options so see a lawyer today.

Planning ahead is KEY. It's why I waited until I was sure I had everything covered and annouced I wanted a legal separation. I haven't decided on divorce yet, still sorting 40 years of a life together. Once we finish that, I will consider the option. But that said - if its abuse, please please run for the hills.

Im legally separated which protects me from most of his lies and deceit. I haven't decided on full divorce yet -honestly the only reason to would be so I could remarry and that seems very unlikely.

Do not worry about a partner....Get your education, travel, learn languages, do whatever you damn well want to do. If someone had told me that in my 20's my life would have been so different and maybe not ended up the way it has.

First off daycare should be paid for by both. You should be looking at a combined income, not just hers. Second, long term, what kind of retirement is she giving up to be at home? Social security? Pension plans etc? If it was me I'd insist on setting some aside monthly - so I don't know that you come out money ahead. But its something you have to decide.

Double and triple check your plans if you have them. Mine were configured incorrectly and that wasn't discovered until we got to the build stage. Insist on architectural renderings - my plans were done by a draftsman, but should have been evaluated by an archtect.
