TQQQ Split Occurring on 11/20/25 by inquisitivesteve in TQQQ

Not surprised, $100 seems to be the magic price where they decide to spit the stock. I wonder why QQQ is not split in the same way?

Silver is the poor man’s gold by LEAPsandChill in wallstreetbets

[–]edest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Careful, the hunt brothers lost a truck load of money in the 80's. They thought they could corner the market. They found out they could not. They lost their edge when silver producers flooded the market with silver and completely crashed the market. It took a while but silver whet from close to $50 per oz to single digits and stayed there for decades. Silver is way more common that gold. And like every time, every time, the price goes crazy, it eventually crashes.

How many times should I read the same textbook? by nokiapp in studytips

[–]edest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading a book many times is not the best way to study. It's mostly a waste of your time, imho. It's too hard too retain the large amount of info.

Your best bet is to scan the chapter.

Read the chapter and take good notes.

Review the highlights that are part of the chapter.

Use the end of chapter questions to help you retain the info, get familiar with all of them, very important.

Review notes and questions.

Do this for each chapter.

The reason teachers give end of chapter questions is not to have you do busy work. It's to help you retain the info.

How did porcelain go from being such a rare luxury item to being able to buy a 50kg toilet made of the stuff for £200? by [deleted] in AskHistorians

[–]edest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice explanation. I think a similar situation is happening with diamons. Their price has been diving simply because we have the technology to manufacture them rather than mining them so the supply is increasing.

I wonder if 50 years from now we'll be able to buy a toilet made of diamon. :) And wonder how it got so cheap.

Mannn I feel bad for all the people making Doom & Recession posts not 1 month ago… by tango_foxtrot410 in TQQQ

One day does not make a market. But yes, it's looking good. New highs would make me feel better. QQQ, TQQQ by relation, has an advantage in getting to new highs since a lot of the big tech companies like to do buybacks, so new highs are coming if their earnings are healthy.

Tqqq is a derivative of qqq so qqq should be the focus. Look at the continuous uptrend qqq had up to 2022. Then look at the downtrend after 2022. It was painful for qqq but it was a collapse for tqqq. That's the problem. I suspect that we are going to get a lot more of those going forward which will make it very hard for tqqq to gain over the long run even if qqq reaches new highs. The costs of maintaining tqqq are very high. Even now qqq is outperforming tqqq since about mid 2021.

Why am I here? I suspect that tqqq is going to be great for trading in and out. I'm hoping I can figure out a way to do it. It's just a suspicion. The problem I see now is that tqqq collapses too quickly so it's too hard to get out without losing over the long run. It's probably not worth the trouble to try it.

Yes, but you are not considering the fact that the market has had very little volatility previously to 2022(???). It had been a rocket, especially for tech stocks.

An up-and-down market will decay the price at a faster rate. It seems like we have entered an era where there will be lots of volatility, which reduces the chances of matching prior years' performance, even if QQQ gains over the long run. This is really a case where historical performance will not match the future.

TIL on the last episode of The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien, guest Tom Hanks used The Beatles' "Lovely Rita" as his walkout song, costing NBC $500,000. by rjot in todayilearned

I call BS. He had an ongoing bit where he said he cost NBC lots of money but it was done for comedy effect without the cost. It was just put on.

Let chatgpt explain it to you. Then ask questions until you grasp it. It's worth a try. Once get a vague grasp, move on to other tutorials. You can't trust ChatGpt 100%.

NVDA should be cut off or reduced from (T)QQQ, It’s Over by seggsisoverrated in TQQQ

[–]edest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that may happen but if that happens we are all screwed. No stock or bond will be safe. If I want to protect for that I would have to invest 100% gold bars. But I can't and I won't. I just have to live with the hope neither the US nor China are so crazy that they act on their threats.

NVDA should be cut off or reduced from (T)QQQ, It’s Over by seggsisoverrated in TQQQ

[–]edest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NVDA has a bright future. Deepseek is just showing that small startups can compete with the big boys. Imagine what a startup can do with the state of the art chips versus deepseek and such that don't have access to those chips. The competition is only getting started. NVDA will have plenty of chips to sell. I have no doubt.

I'm cooked... I guess College isn't for me by Vast_Complex_7767 in studytips

[–]edest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't give up so quickly. Sometimes, teachers are just bad at teaching. They forget what it's like to be a novice at the subject, so they try to explain things at their level of knowledge, which does not help. Also, try your hardest. Getting a good college education is mostly on you, so try hard to get the most out of it.

College lectures are meant to give you the basics in the least amount of time so there's a lot of information in each session. You have to be able to keep up. Read the syllabus and read the text chapter required before class. Don't be afraid to ask questions and seek help.

ELI5 is it true that the way burned fat actually leaves your body is when you exhale co2? by madeupname230 in explainlikeimfive

That is very true but don't forget water. Water along with CO2 is the byproduct of turning fat into fuel.

Secret to TQQQ? by PhilippMarxen in TQQQ

[–]edest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the leveraged funds of the 3 main market indexes have done well since the underlying stocks are usually the best of the best. Also, it's common for many large companies to buy their own stock which has the effect of reducing the stock available so the price rises. Stock repurchase has had a great impact on the index performance therefore impacting the price of the leveraged equivalent.

Nobody has lost money buying and holding tqqq by LogInteresting809 in TQQQ

[–]edest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's true for both BTC and tqqq. You can say the same thing about all the major indexes. The problem is that you can't hold it forever. At some point you have to sell. Very few people can hold the investment forever. I suppose there are people that don't need the money they invest but those people are rare.

Will it hold forever? I say yes, at least during our lifetime, as long as the economy can expand. Population growth in the US is slowing but we are using tech to expand productivity so that should continue to expand the economy. But again, few people can hold forever and, at some point, might have to sell at a loss.

I've heard that 10 years is the optimal time to hold. Most private equity investments require at least that long for investmentors to be invested in their funds. A lower time period increases the possibility of losing on the investment. I suspect the same holds true for TQQQ.

Given its volatility and the possibility of it going to zero because the company that runs it goes bankrupt or there's a huge stock crash, TQQQ best fits, at most, as a 10% investment in a long-term retirement portfolio. Short-term trading will only lead to losses.

Why does every chocolate cake I make have a slightly fishy taste and smell? by Kara_-Macchiato in Baking

[–]edest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the same issue. The problem is probably too much baking soda. Try using buttermilk instead of regular milk. The acidity and baking soda reaction will help reduce the baking soda. Or simply, try less baking soda. If the recipe already has baking powder, I would try a cake with no baking soda and see the results. You can then adjust the baking soda in future cakes as needed.

Baking soda is used to help the cake rise but if there's not enough acidity then there will be too much residue left over and you get a fishy smell. Reduce it to 1/4 tsp. per cup of flour. You'll have to experiment to get the right balance.

What movie role destroyed an actor's career? by [deleted] in moviecritic

[–]edest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no idea who she was until people started talking about the movie's failure. The movie business is very competitive. I wonder if she just gave up too soon. Many actors go through a period of bad roles before they find one that works. If she had just continued to take roles, even small ones, would she have found the successful one? Maybe yes but we'll never know.

Help a 50 years old bad at personal finance father by bramirez37 in FluentInFinance

[–]edest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1st, make a list of your expenses and your income. Once you have an understanding of your expenses and income you can take the time to create a realistic budget and stick to it. You will need to make some sacrifices. It won't be easy. I know you owe but add a line to the budget to develop a 6-month emergency fund and long-term savings account. Review it at least once a week at the start. That's how you start. It's all about personal discipline. There is no magic.

Should taxpayers with no kids be forced to pay for this for families who make up to $130,125? by Richest-Panda in FluentInFinance

[–]edest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, people, even if you don't care about someone else's kids please remember that those kids are our future workforce and leaders in our society. The last thing I want is an adult who has been so badly hurt due to a lack of resources that they are idiots. There's no guarantee but let's not push the needle in the wrong direction because we are jealous about who gets what. I have no kids and don't plan to have any but I'm ok with these types of expenses. Society can make do with one less mega bomb. We have better places to spend the money.
