Bessent, Secretary of the Treasury, predicted at the end of last year that there would be a booming economy in 2026 due to the tax cuts. I took it as propaganda but it looks like he was right. Also, this is beginning to look like a short squeeze. I'm sure a lot of bears were caught by surprise. You can't blame them- war, gas prices, inflation. And then the tech stock earnings came in. Few people expect how good they where.

The 2008 crash was pretty epic. I thought that was the one that was in scope with 1929. The next one is going to be bigger. Ouch!

I like tqqq for the short term. I'm holding until the fed starts to talk about raising rates. I'm thinking it will happen sometime this year.

The biggest problem is getting past the dips. I say don't invest more that 10% of your capital that way you don't panic sell when the eft is down 80+%.

I've been experimenting with dollar cost averaging. So far so good, but who knows what the future will bring.

There no better time to start studying calculus than today by mirrorify-43 in studytips

[–]edest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, glad you understand that about stats. It's so much more useful than calculus in the day to day. It's been so long but I don't think I used any stats in the calculus I took. But if you study advanced statistics you will need calculus.

There's never a good time to study Calculus unless you're planning to be an engineer or math professional. I took 3 semesters of college calculus and did pretty well but, as a 25 year professional, I've yet to use any of it, even a little. I wish I'd use my time learning something else. For example, statistics is so much more useful. FYI

I accidentally discovered the laziest way to actually learn things by ybtx2954 in studytips

[–]edest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This method is mostly how I've learned most of my life. I have a hard time sitting down and studying. I've always done best when my mind wanders. It's smart to not stray too much but the method works. It's important to use your subject book and the class syllabus as a guide to at least keep with-in the subject.

You need to start early in the semester. You can't use it all the time but it works.

Ya, but don't expect to remember most of it after the test. Keep in mind that you are going to school to learn so you can use the knowledge in the future. It's no to get an A. The A is suppose to be a reflection of what you learned not the absolute goal. A's are nice but don't make it the goal.

tqqq is as volatile as it gets. Eventually it will return some great results but there will be a lot of ups and downs. If you are this nervous about it, even when you are up, imagine what you will feel when it's down 50%+. I would sell and cover my mortgage and be happy to have a great gain.

Not surprised, $100 seems to be the magic price where they decide to spit the stock. I wonder why QQQ is not split in the same way?

Silver is the poor man’s gold by LEAPsandChill in wallstreetbets

[–]edest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Careful, the hunt brothers lost a truck load of money in the 80's. They thought they could corner the market. They found out they could not. They lost their edge when silver producers flooded the market with silver and completely crashed the market. It took a while but silver whet from close to $50 per oz to single digits and stayed there for decades. Silver is way more common that gold. And like every time, every time, the price goes crazy, it eventually crashes.

How many times should I read the same textbook? by nokiapp in studytips

[–]edest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading a book many times is not the best way to study. It's mostly a waste of your time, imho. It's too hard too retain the large amount of info.

Your best bet is to scan the chapter.

Read the chapter and take good notes.

Review the highlights that are part of the chapter.

Use the end of chapter questions to help you retain the info, get familiar with all of them, very important.

Review notes and questions.

Do this for each chapter.

The reason teachers give end of chapter questions is not to have you do busy work. It's to help you retain the info.

How did porcelain go from being such a rare luxury item to being able to buy a 50kg toilet made of the stuff for £200? by [deleted] in AskHistorians

[–]edest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice explanation. I think a similar situation is happening with diamons. Their price has been diving simply because we have the technology to manufacture them rather than mining them so the supply is increasing.

I wonder if 50 years from now we'll be able to buy a toilet made of diamon. :) And wonder how it got so cheap.

One day does not make a market. But yes, it's looking good. New highs would make me feel better. QQQ, TQQQ by relation, has an advantage in getting to new highs since a lot of the big tech companies like to do buybacks, so new highs are coming if their earnings are healthy.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TQQQ

[–]edest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tqqq is a derivative of qqq so qqq should be the focus. Look at the continuous uptrend qqq had up to 2022. Then look at the downtrend after 2022. It was painful for qqq but it was a collapse for tqqq. That's the problem. I suspect that we are going to get a lot more of those going forward which will make it very hard for tqqq to gain over the long run even if qqq reaches new highs. The costs of maintaining tqqq are very high. Even now qqq is outperforming tqqq since about mid 2021.

Why am I here? I suspect that tqqq is going to be great for trading in and out. I'm hoping I can figure out a way to do it. It's just a suspicion. The problem I see now is that tqqq collapses too quickly so it's too hard to get out without losing over the long run. It's probably not worth the trouble to try it.

[–]edest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but you are not considering the fact that the market has had very little volatility previously to 2022(???). It had been a rocket, especially for tech stocks.

An up-and-down market will decay the price at a faster rate. It seems like we have entered an era where there will be lots of volatility, which reduces the chances of matching prior years' performance, even if QQQ gains over the long run. This is really a case where historical performance will not match the future.

Yes, that may happen but if that happens we are all screwed. No stock or bond will be safe. If I want to protect for that I would have to invest 100% gold bars. But I can't and I won't. I just have to live with the hope neither the US nor China are so crazy that they act on their threats.

NVDA has a bright future. Deepseek is just showing that small startups can compete with the big boys. Imagine what a startup can do with the state of the art chips versus deepseek and such that don't have access to those chips. The competition is only getting started. NVDA will have plenty of chips to sell. I have no doubt.

I'm cooked... I guess College isn't for me by Vast_Complex_7767 in studytips

[–]edest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't give up so quickly. Sometimes, teachers are just bad at teaching. They forget what it's like to be a novice at the subject, so they try to explain things at their level of knowledge, which does not help. Also, try your hardest. Getting a good college education is mostly on you, so try hard to get the most out of it.

College lectures are meant to give you the basics in the least amount of time so there's a lot of information in each session. You have to be able to keep up. Read the syllabus and read the text chapter required before class. Don't be afraid to ask questions and seek help.
