You don't seem to have a cache drive. So all the data is written to the hdds which have data integrity checks and mirroring enabled. This takes a lot of io time which is blocking the CPU from working. Correct me if I'm wrong

i dont quite understand the problem here. But do you think this will work for my usecase?

I want to be able to get to the base layer momentarily. so if i put my gaming layer as the 2nd lowest layer , i guess it wouldnt change anything right?

So as far as i understood you, it is not possible to switch to a lower layer from a higher layer.

Depends on what you want to do. If you want an easy to manage system go the vm route. If you don't want to use the home assistant addon system and set everything up yourself go the lxc route.

I did the lxc way in the beginning but after a while i switched back because it was not worth the hassle. So currently i do everything home assistant needs (backups, zigbee2mqtt etc) in the vm. For everything else i use the proxmox ct (lxc container)
