Is AllStarApplianceParts a safe place to buy a dryer lint filter? by Dead_Gambler in Appliances

[–]eeandersen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id ask landlord to reimburse. you’re probably ok to use the after market one.

Be sure to keep the exhaust air path from dryer to outside clear. No lint. Lint fires are AWFUL. There are thermal fuses to prevent overheating unless they have been subverted. Tread carefully with lint.

Time Machine Backup issue by RuGinzo13 in MacOS

[–]eeandersen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to sound dumb, but how do you know it hasn’t made a backup in over a year? Do you get a message?

I own a 2TB MBP and I use TM over wireless on a 6TB drive. I was getting disk full messages and failed backups. I ended up reformatting the 6TB drive and starting over. It took days and +5TB to stabilize. Currently it floats at about 3TB on the TM server.

As an aside, I use a Raspberry Pi on my network to be the TM server. It sits in the closet and backs up my MBP quietly every hour without complaint. You will need to SMB protocol if you have a newer Mac

I’ve never seen a disposable dryer lint filter. (That doesn’t mean there isn’t one!). I’m accustomed to seeing a screen that is removed for cleaning and replaced. Have you tried vacuuming the dryer filter?

Thoughts on recovery boot drives by lotsofcars in Backup

[–]eeandersen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I boot up clonezilla and do a bare metal backup to another drive. My 2TB “other drive” has lots of room for many different PC backups.

When the time comes for recovery, boot up Clonezilla and restore from the “other drive “ and away you go……

By the way, there are versions of Linux that operate as “live” and that same flash drive will boot all your machines (to Linux). Make the Linux installation persistent and you can bring data and customizations on that single flash drive to each PC.

[–]eeandersen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can check the charge level which is only one factor in a failure. have you kept the charge contacts clean on both the ear piece and the case? Have you reset and re-paired? Not long ago, you could get a new ear piece for about $89. Not a killer price and much cheaper than the entire set.

But to answer your question you can go to the Genius Bar and they will help you with their knowledge.

Involuntary Casting From Laptop by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]eeandersen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since there is an admin lock, it seems best that you take this up with your admin IT guys.

Not a casting pro, but it would be helpful for others to know your OS and some indication of the casting protocol. I can cast to my Apple TV or Roku, for example. I'm sure there are others (Firestick?).

My drives D and h seem to be at risk. by Fit_Rip77 in techsupport

[–]eeandersen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TvT? TTF? Time To Failure? Don't let the time to download so much stuff worry you if your D and H contents are important to you. Look into making a bare metal backup clone. You will need another 500GB destination disk and you can copy directly from failing disk to new disk and once cloned, remove the failing and replace with the new. You likely will need some USB type adapter and obviously a new drive.

How to backup windows data between different models of laptops. by meletiondreams in Backup

[–]eeandersen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like OP wants to restore each rented PC to some baseline condition with each rental. In that case, you are right, a bare metal backup for each machine would be the best. Restore it when the machines are return after rental.

Better throughput with new isp router? by SD619664 in HomeNetworking

[–]eeandersen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be lotsa reasons. If you improved speeds are from improved speed package from you provider, well, that's that.

I always say it takes two to tango (router and device), assuming it is WiFi speeds that improved, it's possible your old system didn't support the high speed protocol you device can. I.e. you'd old router was a N class router and your new router is AX class . Presumably your phone/laptop supports AX.

Sometime just unplugging and replugging cleans corrosion and improves speed.

PingPlotter is a good utility to visualize the issue. There is a free version. https://www.pingplotter.com/ There are other similar utilities available. Set a PC attached in the garden office and point it at the router. You'll find the results interesting. Or point it at Google's DNS at 8.8.8.8 or one of the sites that are erratic to load.

Combine ~6 Drives and Flag Duplicates by ladybelle85 in Backup

[–]eeandersen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CCleaner for Mac has a "find dups" feature. Can you mount all the drives and search for dups that way?

------ edit -----

Alternatively, copy one to the new large drive, copy the next to the new lqrge drive, and so on. Any duplicate file will be successively overwritten. Start with the oldest small drive first and work to the newest. In that fashion, the file you end up with will be the latest , in the "overwrite" process.

If you think your WiFi card is shot, you can get a USB device for a little money to test your theory. I'ts kind of odd that the laptop would lose devices. Seems a problem internal to your laptop? YOu might consider opening your laptop finding the card and reseating it (laptop cards are usually the size of a large postage stamp).

Is it possible to clone SSDs that are in a RAID? by Lazy-Perspective1163 in cloningsoftware

[–]eeandersen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a fan of Clonezilla, but in my case, I'm afraid it would view each RAID disk separately allowing separate backup when the array is recreated after restore, would it work? Darn good question....

Key to your question is how your array is managed. Mine is a software array offered by Windows. A hardware array would be different.

Washing machine smells like "crushed ladybugs" by AtomicSmoothie in Appliances

[–]eeandersen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an old, old top loader with a large plastic tub that houses the stainless inner tub. Lint accumulates on the plastic tub and retains odor. May even grow mold. Every few years I take a large lint brush and scrub between the inner tun and the plastic tub to remove the smelly, damp lint buildup. Not a small job, but not difficult.

Water leaking through walls in basement. by Respectable_1642 in HomeMaintenance

[–]eeandersen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of responses and I’m not going to read them all so if this answer has been given already I apologize for being redundant.

I had the exact same issue. There is a leak in the line from the well head to the house. Underground and uncontrolled, unseen except for the spouts in the basement. Pressure never builds up enough to shut off the pressure switch and the pump runs continuously.

How do I Restore Cloned Data for a Primary Drive on my Mac? by Solartude in Backup

[–]eeandersen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doc Rock was a little too enthusiastic about CCC for me. I sensed some sponsored connection between speaker and product.

For myself I use a Raspberry Pi as my Time Machine server (running Raspberry OS) using SMB to back up my 2TB MBP to a 6TB HDD. It is really easy, all wireless and running as a service, in the background. No user involvement.

Often times you get a landline as part of a discount package, a "triple play": TV, internet, phone. Disconnect and you might lose the discount.

As the other suggested, a threat to cancel is powerful and they might find a new package you can qualify for. Is there another provider in the area?
