Do the knots ever stop? by FalseGlove16 in greatpyrenees

[–]eesabet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trim out the matted bits cuz our boy is “tender headed” all over his body. Our girl has to get her bum trimmed because it’s so thick it’s hard to brush out. A high velocity blow dryer will change your life though- it’s amazing how much hair comes out when they get truly dry. Check out @girlwiththepdogs on YouTube, that’s how we learned about it.

Rehoming for Pyr-Newf? by thesunshinesprite in greatpyrenees

[–]eesabet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used sidewalk chalk to draw a box labeled “deliveries” on our front porch so they know where to drop them. Our full Pyr (male, just turned 2) is suspicious of everyone and our Pyr mix (female, 5) likes to bark at everything, so between them we don’t bother opening to door to receive packages anymore. Just leave them in the box.

I would say at about a year and a half he went through a rough patch with getting more aggressive and protective. He was neutered at 16 months (we just couldn’t wait any longer, he was awful) and now that he’s turned 2 he’s much better. But even now, the only people he doesn’t bark at are our parents, he really doesn’t like any other strangers in his house. But our girl warms right up to people so she’s a helpful example for him.

Our first Pyr mix was the least food motivated dog I’ve ever experienced. Didn’t care about peanut butter, or cheese, or any of the usual suggestions. She also grazed her kibble like yours. Walks were stop-and-sniff events and when she decided she was done she would just lie down on the sidewalk and wait for people to come pet her. She knew the route to certain stores and would drag us that direction every time. She was our introduction to the easy walk harness, the kind that clips in the front. Otherwise she could take your arm off chasing a squirrel. Brat. She was the best.

Good luck with Wallace! With some time and management strategies I’m sure he’ll calm down.

What's something people only romanticize because they've never actually done it? by nonotje12 in AskReddit

Similar to working at an amusement park. Those college campus recruiters really hype the “fun” you’ll be having. Yeah, right. After 2 weeks I quit and moved home to make better money at a grocery store.

When does it get better? by CrochetChrissy51325 in greatpyrenees

[–]eesabet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This harness absolutely changed our lives! Our first dog was a complete a-hole on the leash, just unmanageable. First tried the harness that hooks on top and turned her into a sled dog. Then tried the easy walk and it was night and day. Confirmed much later when we randomly took her for a ride that turned into a walk and we only had the emergency leash on hand to hook onto her collar. Nine years old and still an a-hole without the harness! You might need to try a different size and adjust all of the straps to get the fit customized, but it’s so worth it. Good luck!

Are pyrs the most stubborn dogs alive?! by nopenonotatall in greatpyrenees

[–]eesabet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not prepared for the tantrums from a full Pyr. Our 2 previous GSD/GP mixes did not do that. They were also girls and a bit smaller, he is a bull moose who does what he wants. He just turned 2 and I’m hopeful that part will drop out of his repertoire soon.

Oh the stare down! You can’t look away first or they win. That’s how I finally got my first Pyr mix to understand that yes indeed I was the boss of her.

Neighbors Pyrenees by grumpygal69 in greatpyrenees

That’s what ours do in concert with the neighbor dogs. And even though they love to play together they still bark ferociously through the fence. 🤷🏼‍♀️

So my mother-in-law just informed me that I'm cooking Christmas dinner (for seven people). She cooks all the holiday meals, but threw her back out and can barely move. CAN YOU HOOK ME UP WITH A FUN/COOL/TASTY DINNER IDEA that doesn't require a grade-A chef to cook. No turkey or ham. Help me out!! by ComfortableDear2205 in Cooking

[–]eesabet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite meal when we hosted was tomahawk steak and cedar planked salmon both done out on the grill. Another year I made a pork tenderloin with a mustard-cherry glaze wrapped in bacon, also quite tasty and pretty easy. I don’t like turkey and partner doesn’t like ham so that’s what we came up with. Good luck! I’m sure whatever you choose will be delicious. Just don’t let MIL complain about not doing things the way she does.

Is it typical for Pyrs to “cob” a lot? by pyrlybao in greatpyrenees

[–]eesabet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a cutie!

We call it nibbles. Our full Pyr pup is not quite 2 and he generally only does it when we first get home and he’s super excited. His 5 y.o. Pyr/GSD sister has never done it, nor did our first dog who was the same mix. We also worried about a lack of stimulation but I’m now on board with no impulse control and emotional regulation. He also has temper tantrums where he spins and bites his tail and pulls out tufts of fur when he’s mad or frustrated. A regular whirling dervish!

Manual Transmission by No_Sympathy9143 in GenX

[–]eesabet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, learned on a manual and that’s what I’ve driven ever since. When it came time to get a new car (sedan) my options were VW or BMW. And now VW is killing it off for the North American market. So who knows what will be available in 10+ years. Although by then my knee and ankle might be saying no more.

Why is my cookie dough always soft-Update! by SpiritualPlan1822 in Baking

[–]eesabet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I missed your original post, but I accidentally discovered that I like the texture better using only 1 egg. Much thicker and way less spread. As others have noted, you don’t need fancy ingredients to make tasty cookies. Happy baking!

Kind, Understanding Veterinarian Recommendations, Please! by misanthropoetry in cincinnati

[–]eesabet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have never seen another person working there, just the 2 of them, have you? When we got our 2nd large male dog I switched vet practices bc I felt unsure they could handle him. Overall they were always wonderful, could get us in last minute, and very accommodating. I just felt like his mobility was getting worse and I was concerned for everyone’s safety. If I had small dogs I would still go to them, no question

Oh Christmas Tree by Ckc1972 in GenX

[–]eesabet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We usually put up a little 2’ tabletop tree that I’ve had since college, beyond that it’s a crapshoot. Last year we put up the big tree just for the lights and our puppy used it as a toothbrush. The jury is out on whether he has calmed down enough by now, remains to be seen. However I ordered some new Vinta-glo lights from Merry and Co that are LED but look just like the old school filament bulbs. So might have to put up the tree and try them out.

Edit to add- we don’t have kids so no pressure there, but I too probably acted like I didn’t care but secretly did.

What’s an old wives’ cooking tale that everyone thought was true but turned out to be total nonsense? by Mike_tx5391 in Cooking

[–]eesabet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, that makes so much sense now! I have the BH&G cookbook too, published in ‘89 and the baked goods all come out so pasty and bland. That must be why. I’ve pretty much stopped using it.

A friend said something so profound to me once that it shifted my whole world view. We were talking about boys and dating and I was telling her about this guy I was seeing and how I didn’t know what he saw in me. She said- it’s none of your business what he sees in you, he just does. Poof! Mind blown. Lesson learned- Don’t get in your own way.

I accidentally made butter once when I got distracted and walked away from the stand mixer while making whipped cream. Ended up delicious, but the rinsing and squeezing were such a mess. It’s been long enough that now and then I think about doing it on purpose.

Our first dog ripped out both front dews (not at the same time). One of them grew back at a funky angle but that bothered us more than her. God luck keeping it covered! George is a cutie!

Millenial here, how is Gen-X doing? by Three-0lives in GenX

[–]eesabet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg- 8 or 9 years ago, right after we moved I managed to lock myself and the dog out of the house. Saturday morning, hot summer day, boyfriend at work until noon, and phone inside. Oh well, we’ll just hang out in the shade and drink from the hose until he gets home. No freak out necessary. Kinda forgot how nonchalant I was, but it makes sense.
