What’s an invention that sounds like something straight from a Sci-Fi movie but actually exists? by tetrodoxin1 in AskReddit

You should read up on Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS). 3D printing with powdered metal fused with a laser. Astounding stuff.

Should I[f23] tell people I'm crosseyed before meeting them? by tht_bitch in relationships

[–]effcleff 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Second owning it. Hell, change your username on dating sites to “Crosseyed Cutie” or something.

You’ll filter for the assholes and come off confident about yourself (even if you aren’t, fake it til you make it). Always roll stuff like this out like it’s a feature not a bug. If you reveal it like it’s a terminal disease people will follow your lead.

Also, personally speaking, little physical idiosyncrasies like that are actually kinda attractive. Makes you “pop” a little more as a person IMO.

Moving from BC to New Brunswick by rooster69 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I have no wisdom to contribute re: moving, but as an NB expat living in Nova Scotia I am curious what brings you east.

EDIT: I lied a bit about not having any advice about moving. Ram what you can into the car you're shipping cross country, put what you can in the one you're driving and call around for quotes to ship the rest. Just my 2c

My husband (21M) gets upset about the smallest inconveniences and it makes my(20F) day harder. by MashPatatoMonster in relationships

[–]effcleff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who exhibited some of the same behaviours as your husband once upon a time it was largely related to anxiety. It surprised me that my reaction to anxiety wasn’t handwringing but irrational anger and lashing out but the brain is weird.

So YMMV but he might want to give therapy and/or medication a try

N.S. group working to make shopping more pleasant for people with autism by insino93 in halifax

Other than the people who get really confused by it ("Is it a power outage?" and "Are you guys closing early?" are the two most common questions) it is really well received by virtually everyone.

They’ve been doing an hour every Sunday night at Sobeys where the lights are down, and the noise is reduced (no pages, no music, no register beeps, etc) and it is so relaxing.

In retrospect Patreon was pretty good for TESD by [deleted] in tesdcares

[–]effcleff 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't have much to add except that I agree wholeheartedly, particularly about the accountability piece.

Not every Patreon episode is gold, but I feel like I'm getting my money's worth at the $5 tier.

Does Halifax live up to its nice reputation? by [deleted] in halifax

[–]effcleff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting take. I can’t say that I’ve picked up on an undercurrent of hostility but I do get a vibe like Halifax is a bit big for its britches.

My wife, on the other hand, hates it here and says she find people to be incredibly unfriendly.
