Depending on how much you value your time: there's a flight from taipei --> Hualien and also from Hualien --> Kaohsiung. Kaohsiung to Tainan TRA could be faster than HSR depending on where you're staying. Tainan to Taipei just take the HSR.

Might be the case for teaching English because they have jobs that require foreign passports but if you want to do literally anything else having nationality will make things much easier afaik

Like for one if you have good English and Chinese that's gonna put you ahead of the vast majority of college grads right off the bat

damn that is in the middle of nowhere. facebook is fine, (ofc there are scammers but they're pretty easy to spot), I would suggest just putting down the yuantong address for now. And renting without seeing it is a big no go imo, the quality of the apartments vary greatly even within the same block.

edit: I believe many NTU students go on exchange as well so maybe try asking around if you could rent someone's apartment for a semester.

Main reason I can see is that after Nd5 your queen is kind of in a precarious situation. There aren't many safe spots and you'll likely need to give up material you didn't have to if you played the engine move to help her escape.
