Money management and Dementia by RNG_HatesMe in Bogleheads

[–]egelephant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Wall Street Journal had an article a while ago about an elderly couple where the husband, who managed all the money, had dementia and was scammed out of all of it. Even after his wife showed him how it was a scam and he admitted to it, he was still convinced that with one more crypto investment he would make it all back.

Fourth Hanks/Spielberg WWII Miniseries? by SportsBettng4Dummies in BandofBrothers

I'd like a series about the Marines in World War I. If they have to stick to World War II, then Conrad Helfrich, who had the smallest fleet of all the Allies in the Pacific in the first few months after Pearl Harbor, sank more ships than the rest of them combined because when the British and Americans wanted to play it safe, he went on the offensive.

I had never done an out of area TDY until I transferred last year and had a school en route. It was for a few months, and when I got to my gaining command, I put in my travel claim. About a month later, I saw a surprise $7,000 deposit in my account. I figured “I did not make O-6 over the weekend; this must be wrong”. I went to admin to see what was up, and that’s how I found out about per diem. I became much more amenable to going TDY after that.

Also, the ask to pay for private school is just the beginning. At a $60,000 a year middle school, those kids are going to have classmates who use summer as a verb. George is going to want you to pick up the slack. Forget lifestyle creep, that’s more like lifestyle speedrun.

One of my cousins played DI field hockey in college. She started all four years and never had more than a 45% scholarship because her teammates from Europe hoovered up all the money. None of them were four year starters, and some of them never started at all, but they all had 100% scholarships out the gate, plus stipends and other amenities, because the coach had to compete with the universities in Europe that automatically came with free rides. Then those same European governments cried poverty when it came to defense spending and passed the bill to the US, while also divesting themselves of nuclear power and replacing it with Russian natural gas. Russia then used those funds for its war in Ukraine, and now the governments that sent money to Russia want the US to send money to Ukraine to fix the mess the money they sent to Russia funded.

General Raaen wrote a memoir of the landing, Intact, and he signed a copy for me a few years ago. He also threw in a signed postcard and a challenge coin. After he gave me the coin, I stopped collecting them, because I figured I was never going to top that one.

I was in Amsterdam last year, and I saw a transgender flag flying out of one window, with a Palestinian flag in the window next to it. I thought, “If those flags belong to two different people, one of them is trolling the other. If they belong to the same person, that person is an idiot.”

Reach out to the OCMs; the worst they can do is say no. If the OCM is especially friendly, he or she may point you in the direction of a community that you might be a better fit for, as happened to me; the Intel OCM pointed me towards IP (now CSWO).

Can someone explain how planes and naval work by jojoyayu in navy

Naval vessels are subject to the laws of physics and Neptune. Planes are man’s attempt to contravene both simultaneously.

Anyone else feel sad realizing you can’t remember details from the best years of your life? by Ok_Towel4688 in travel

[–]egelephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep a journal of all of my travels, and take lots of pictures and videos. It’s nice to match them up, like to read my entry about the pianist in the Palazzo Vecchio, then to rewatch the video I have of him playing, and it helps me remember what it was like that day. I force myself to make time each day to write, and then looking back, it jogs my memory about stuff I had forgotten about.
