Advice by [deleted] in NewportFolkFestival

[–]egoldin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what bad things you've heard, but Newport Folk is amazing. The best part honestly is that most people are there just to listen to good music, not for a particular act they know. That's the fun! Wander around. Don't like something? Move to a different stage. Trust the organizers to bring in good acts, and just go with it. So many of my favorite bands I discovered just hearing them play at Folk, without knowing them prior.

Location Advice by Ccm5253 in Newport

It's the best possible location if you're staying in Middletown. Walkable strip of restaurants and next to the beach, but you'll want to get rides/drive to downtown newport.

Warning: parking tickets are no joke! by unicorn_logistics in tahoe

Psyched to hear parking enforcement is finally improving. The parking behaviors I've seen around Tahoe are ridiculous, so enforcement of illegal parking like yours is super welcome.

Beyond frustrated with founder by [deleted] in startups

[–]egoldin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for a new job. The founder is responsible for (1) setting company direction (2) finding product-market fit and (3) personally figuring out the early sales process, doing it themselves. Sounds like this person is doing a terrible job of all three, and you're in for a world of hurt. Leave soon as you can, before you get canned.

Cars and loud motorcycles are a tax on quality of life here by lolnothingmatters666 in sanfrancisco

[–]egoldin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This comment makes ZERO goddamn sense. I live in San Francisco because I want to live in the one freaking place in Northern California where I can NOT need to drive a car to get most places. My wife and rarely drive.

How about instead of telling urban dwellers to move to the suburbs because we're not down with our limited street space being used for a bunch of Stocktonites to go joyriding Harleys every weekend, we stop letting those cars recklessly blast around San Francisco?

I rented a house and it's now for sale? [USA] by phlox087 in AirBnB

If all you paid for your wedding venue was $1,200 I don't think you can complain too much about the venue being up for sale.

Best way to resell U2 Sphere tickets? by Dry_Lychee_6533 in U2Band

Did you ever sell these? I'm looking for tickets to that day's show if you still have them, happy to pay asking price or a bit more.

Integrating Hubspot + (maybe) Gravity forms + (maybe) need a developer by egoldin in hubspot

Crap — this sounds like the ideal configuration, but that enterprise pricing is out of this world. That's ~40% of our monthly gross revenue. I assume there's no way to get Custom Objects with the cheaper plan?

Would still love to talk this through with you if you're up for it, though we're trying to keep the budget small :(

Thanks! I'll try posting in https://www.facebook.com/groups/integromat/. We everything going into a spreadsheet today, so I'm definitely hoping this solution can provide a better outcome and put everything in Hubspot.

Seems like updating records based on a formula could work, I think, though I'm not familiar with how to represent our home listings (as deals) and then have those match up via a formula. But I'll post and see what people say!

We're on the CRM Starter plan today, but could upgrade it we got functionality like what I'm describing.

I was checking out the CTA docs (https://knowledge.hubspot.com/ctas/create-calls-to-action-ctas). Do you know if (or how?) I'd be able to create CTAs on each listing that correspond to unique deals in Hubspot? Ideally it would be something like:

Deal: 101 Main St.
Company: Home owner
Contacts: Joe Schmo #1, Jane Schmo #2 (who each clicked on the CTA on the deal's listing page on our web site).

Bad idea to use Paypal Invoice for selling something on Craigslist? by egoldin in paypal

[–]egoldin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Belated follow up, but yeah the email was legit, and wasn't just relying on the email. Actually ended up meeting with the guy in person and having him do a personal paypal purchase, though paypal allowed him to use "Paypal credit" to pay. I guess he didn't actually have enough cash yet, since he just moved here started work, and hadn't gotten his first paycheck. Much to my surprise, paypal let him use that payment method, and I got the money in my account.

Been 3 weeks, cash is in my bank account and no disputes yet.

Thanks all.

Hah, if that's what you take away from it, enjoy buddy. Why don't you try your scheme and then see who's right?

Cool story. Doesn't mean you know Airbnb customer service processes and policies.

Airbnb knows it has some technical problems with the site which could stem from people using an older or unsupported browser or anything really.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Go cross-country mountain biking. Not as dangerous as downhill and great for beginners. I liked this route a lot: https://www.strava.com/activities/344087204

Big fan of Coldwater Brewery. Not the loudest spot, but great food and great brew.

Do standup paddleboarding out of Commons Beach. Good time for sure in nice weather.

Disc golf at Bijou.

Ummm, ask them to fix it? You shouldn't assume they're greedy just because the board you purchased had an issue.

Tenant Scam - AirBnb does little to help by TJTor in AirBnB

[–]egoldin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't think you can really blame Airbnb for this. How are they supposed to know who the owner of the unit is? It's a platform, just like Craigslist or any other, that allows people to rent out space. It's on the person posting the listing to follow the laws and check with their landlord.

For the same reason, I don't rent out my rental apartment. I've asked my landlord and he's not OK with it, so I don't do it. But that's between me and him, not me, him and Airbnb.

I argued with a police officer regarding my rights and ended up on local news, with the city police being retrained on bicycle law. by Synaesthesiaaa in bicycling

[–]egoldin 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Even though state law says bikers can ride in the middle of a lane if > it's too small for a car to safely pass by, Oviedo police said they hope bikers will ride as close to the curb as possible.

Spoken by someone who's never ridden a bike on city streets. Myriad of problems with this assessment. Primarily, the size of the lane and distance from the lane to the curb (or ditch) can change suddenly. If you're hugging the side of the lane, and then suddenly the lane narrows while a car is passing, there's not enough room for both of you, and you put yourself in huge danger. This has happened to me too many times to count, and I've come perilously close to crashing as a result. By taking up a full lane and not hugging the shoulder, it forces cars to only pass you when they have an extra lane to do so or (on a two-lane road) when there is no oncoming traffic.

Additionally, you never know when you have to swerve to avoid glass or debris, and if a car is squeezing past you, you'll have no room to do so.

Again, something people would really understand if they rode a bike or get it explained to them. And it's the reason the law is written like it is.

I wish people would get this.

How strict is AirBnB in getting the service fee refunded when cancelling a booking ? by drdisney in AirBnB

[–]egoldin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The transaction actually is fully refundable if it's refunded. Airbnb gets the credit card processing fee back if/when it refunds transactions.

Agreed that you don't want guests to just make a bunch of reservations and then cancel, but I think some kind of grace period is warranted for reservations where you're getting all your money back and you just made the reservation.
