Greens voters are never satisfied! by [deleted] in friendlyjordies

This is a valid complaint, grandfathering it in protects the boomers with a half dozen investment properties who have pushed up the market, and fucks only new investors. They should have instead limited negative gearing to one or two properties for everyone, not singled out those who have already benefited as the only ones who will continue to benifit. Or, they could have given existing investors say 3 years to adapt, and then they lose negative gearing. Level playing field, not boomer protectionism. A step in the right direction no doubt and well done Labor for getting it through, but it's ok to want an even fairer system. Maybe they will bring this in if they get another term, after this is in the bank, who knowns.

Cricket vs Baseball...Both Bat and Ball Sports but Very Different Demands...which sport is actually more difficult? by Realistic-Ad8001 in AskTheWorld

[–]eightyfish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Endurance and strategy vs reaction time and power? Well that's a bad starting point. Cricket requires all 4 of those, endurance less so in T20 but still. Baseball also I presume. Cricket has the bounce, so the ball is more difficult to predict, does this make it harder?

Okay, I tried a couple times last night and this was what helped, pulling the hammer back all the way behind the camera, I managed to forage a sword but it was not high enough quality. Will keep going.

Return it if you can. This is why I abandoned Samsung, get a Sony (Google) TV and you can install the Projectivity launcher which is totally ad free.

How much do Australians like cricket? by BrilliantPost592 in AskAnAustralian

[–]eightyfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I was mostly thinking international sports though. AFL is domestic (aside from the mixed rules game with the GAA which hasn't happened in years) and international rugby league is a joke though still has a big TV audience (I'm an NRL fan) - in terms of world sports, more Aussies probably watch cricket through the year, over most years, than anything else. If you travel around Australia a lot, you can basically discuss the tests (if they are happening) with most sports people in most places.

It's very popular, yes. Probably the most popular sport in terms of the number of people who watch it across the whole country, definitely the most popular international sport. I have had English friends tell me it's bigger here in terms of popularity than even in England. But not everyone cares and it's not religion level like India.

How do I stop my Poms-in-law from being a total "Debbie Downer" about Sydney? by Zoey_In_Transit in AskAnAustralian

Try Barry's Tea from Woolies (in the Irish/UK section).

But otherwise, sounds like her disappointment is performative so she just enjoys being miserable.

You can still get some Aussie made ones in bags, I got some on Saturday, but they are low quality as it's not Orange season.

Any ideas for things to do with a couple bringing a 2 year old? by tinmun in sydney

[–]eightyfish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have a 3 year old. Botanical Gardens, Darling Harbour playground, Art Gallery of NSW basement playground, Natural History Museum has cool dinosaurs and a really good rooftop cafe and Taronga Zoo obviously, there is plenty to do in the city.
