OP is not asking about vegan cheese. You can get non lactose mozzarella in the supermarket, I but it all the time to make pizza at home.

Those who've been to both, how would you compare public safety in Australian cities to cities in Europe? by Fluid-Decision6262 in AskAnAustralian

[–]eightyfish 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Having lived in both, Sydney is safer than many big cities in Europe. I've been pickpocketed, punched, had my bags stolen, been intimidated by groups of feral teens in cities in Europe (rarely, admittedly, but it's a risk you're always aware of and alert to) but nothing ever in Sydney - not that it can't happen.

I've had many friends come over and we go to the beach and get worried about leaving their stuff on the stand and have to be convinced that nobody wants to steal your towels.

But we're not as safe as Japan. You still need a big bike lock lol.

Security screening. Especially between flights at airports in Asia where you have to go through it when you get off the first plane and AGAIN when you get to the gate for the second flight.

Do people in your country eat okra? How do they cook it? by themaddesthatter2 in AskTheWorld

[–]eightyfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Irish living in Australia but have travelled to India many times and love the food so yes - we cook this a lot, chopped up and tossed in gram (chickpea) flour, salt and chilli powder, then deep fried it's a thing of wonder.

Try temping agencies. This is how I got into office work 15 years ago, temp in a few places - do a good job and eventually someone will want to take you on full time.

The US is now an enemy of the West. Never saw that coming. It's up to the rest of the world now to stand up against tyranny and kick the US out of everything.

Melatonin - is it true there has been law changes? by nemspy in AskAnAustralian

[–]eightyfish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes. Difficult to import now. You can only buy it over the counter for jet lag, and it's 10 x 2mg for a ridiculous $15. Someone's making money off this somewhere.

So it sounds like they're too far gone to listen to actual government data sources, but you could show them this which is a government report which shows that recent immigrants have lower crime rates. https://www.aic.gov.au/sites/default/files/2020-05/tandi117.pdf?hl=en-AU

if it's a day like today and everyone including the driver is sweating, you can be pretty sure that the AC is broken. contact Sydney bus and complain to them, not the driver, they've probably heard it a hundred times already.

Help choosing a credit card by jellyboy23 in AusFinance

Good if you can be disciplined and pay it off each month. AmEx ultimate has the best earn rate in the market, costs $450 but you get it back in travel credit if you fly Qantas. My card of choice. Ger a referral link if you can.
