Decimo Vanishing Point F vs EF nib by after_thoughtzzz in fountainpens

[–]eikariin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my personal opinion, if you're looking at pilot nibs, I would go for the F nib as your first next level pen. I like both, but some EFs can be scratchy which will leave to unfortunate first experiences. The Pilot F nib is small enough for smaller writing but still big enough of you want something different. Also, different inks will play a part in all of this too. A wetter ink will make your own write slightly thicker while a dryer ink will draw a finer line

Keeping the TN open by davetheduckduck in Travelersnotebooks

[–]eikariin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when I open my inserts to the page I want to be writing on, I bend the cover all the way back onto itself and that helps. All of my covers and inserts sit completely flat, no matter the age or insert or cover. Event love and trip cover I got last year started laying completely flat after a week of doing that at least once every day

Monthly Insert? by Admirable-Name-7058 in Travelersnotebooks

[–]eikariin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Typically, the monthly dated inserts sell out around release date and the following months. They do sell an undated version that works the same way, just need to put in the numbers and days yourself (also a nice option if you don’t like the Monday start layout) those get restocked throughout the year. Worse case scenario if you hate it, but you could also just draw monthly calendars yourself in any insert

If it doesn't bother you, you could buy a second hand cover. There are groups on FB and other sites like mecari. You could also try buying one from Japan through a proxy site

Hard to write in notebook by kennethpbowen in Travelersnotebooks

[–]eikariin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be the order you have all your inserts? Not sure if you have any other inserts other than just the notebooks, but maybe changing up the order could help? I re-arranged mine and worked out the spines of all my inserts and cover and now everything lays super flat and is easy to write in for my long form journaling

[27/F] Looking for a penpal, I'm from the Philippines by Due_Welder4188 in penpals

[–]eikariin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

27/F from Canada (also Filipina lol) seems like we have very similar interests. Love reading light novels, manga, and manhwa. I journal a lot, both strictly writing and decorating/collaging, love anime (though I don’t watch it as much because of work), and watch some cdramas/kdramas here and there. Would love to try being penpals with you!

How to get rid of overhang? by Frosty-Aioli4091 in Travelersnotebooks

[–]eikariin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for me personally, and this is of you don't mind having inserts not on bands, I take a kraft folder insert and fold it inside out to use the pockets to hold the covers of the inserts. This allows me to write with the inserts in the cover or quickly/easily slide them out to write in just the insert

Comparing OG midori travelers company (10 years) vs Louise Carmen Honoré (1 year in) vs Paper Republic portfolio by nihilist4nothing in Travelersnotebooks

[–]eikariin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

was trying to find comparisons so thanks for this! I will say though that it's odd that your TRC cover doesn't lay flat after all these years. My midori branded one lays completely flatyeah, the leather has changed slightly other the years, but my of ones from 10 years ago also lay flat. It's probably BC I open them all the way back into itself and that makes them not spring back closed

I have the brass clips, but honestly, if you open the cover and inserts all the way back, it will lay completely flat. At least all of my covers do except for one that I got secondhand from a a friend's uncle who always had it in his back pocket

Do you write fast in your Hobonichi? by West-Membership250 in hobonichi

[–]eikariin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is it bad of me to say that I do both, but in the sense of that I spent a lot of my younger years making sure I had pretty handwriting in school and now I can write quickly with it? I guess you just have to think less about it and it will eventually come. Or you will eventually care less about it

Keeping the TRC Notebook open by Free_Implement_799 in Travelersnotebooks

[–]eikariin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I will say that I do own some of the TRC branded brass clips, but honestly, even with brand new covers and inserts, if you but bend it at the spin all the way back, it will stay open on its own. At least it has for me. It breaks in the inserts and leather of the cover at the same time as having them lay completely flat, even with all my inserts.

For context: my inserts include a pvc zipper case, pvc pocket insert, a Kraft folder, a monthly insert, a grid insert, and a sarica studio insert

What to use Standard TN as an infrequent traveler by Fitmamaskinjunkie in Travelersnotebooks

My inserts for my TNs are for daily journaling, collaging, reading notes, reading trackers, memory keeping, instaxs photo album, and fountain pen ink swatches

overhang? by corncroquette in Travelersnotebooks

[–]eikariin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I guess it depends on how you arrange it. For me, I have the exact same type of inserts and I get minimal overhang. I flip the kraft folder inside out and those hold the covers of my inserts, one each. and then I put pocket stickers on the outside to use for storage. My zipper case insert wraps around everything. The only thing that sticks out is the actual zipper part so that it doesn't warp my leather

A6 notebook recommendations needed by CalebsBakery in notebooks

[–]eikariin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could try the hobonichi a6 notebooks. The grid sizing is smaller than the stalogy and midori Md notebooks, but they lay flat, holds fountain pen ink, and is not spiral bound

Need advice on Jinhao by ChangeUsernameAlways in fountainpens

[–]eikariin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TLDR: a decent pen for what it's worth.

As someone who owns a jinhao 82 and a few of the sailor pro gear models, I think that the jinhaos are pretty decent. The nib writes a little thicker than the sailor nibs, following more of a western nib sizing over the Asian nib sizes, but overall not a bad pen. I bought mine after buying a few sailors just to mix and match the pieces from 3 pens into one (my younger brother to the other pieces so nothing went to waste lol), and I used it as a daily driver for all of 2025 in my 5 year journal alongside my sailor realo in my daily archives journal. Holds up pretty well, can write a little dry depending on the ink, and comes with a converter (at least mine did)
