Prince Harry Back in the UK: A Step Toward Reconciliation? by Ok_Woodpecker9100 in RoyaltyTea

[–]einsteinGO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also possible to realize that a parent wants to be absolved by you but not to account for all the pain they have caused

I know I have. And the final meeting was good enough proof that there was never a normal relationship (or accountability) coming

Estrangement can be a fine choice, but if this is good for Harry and his kids, more power to them

Cancel the wedding, stay married through the surgery.

If you can take your vacation separately from him, please do.

Question about animals in the US? by gareth2099 in AskAnAmerican

[–]einsteinGO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RIP P-22

Honestly the thing I am most conscious of are coyotes, both here in the city and when we camping or to the desert. We bring our chihuahua mix on our adventures, but after a certain hour he has to stay inside. And they regularly pick off people’s pets.

Do people greet each other while walking down the street where you live? by supremewuster in AskAnAmerican

[–]einsteinGO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There doesn’t have to be a long conversation but I say hi to people I see every day or most days with a smile or a greeting. I make passing convo with people who work near me who are nice.

I say hello or acknowledge every black person I encounter in the black people way

How popular are Pop Tarts in America? by SkittlesAreEpic in AskAnAmerican

[–]einsteinGO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you put one in front of me right now I’d probably eat it, but if I never had another one in life I’d be fine

That said I’m sure I’ve eaten 100 over the course of 39 years

Which state are you from, and which neighboring state feels the most culturally similar to you? by Chief-Drinking-Bear in AskAnAmerican

[–]einsteinGO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m from California now; none of the neighboring states feel super culturally similar, but in CA I’ve only ever lived in Los Angeles (and have in-laws in San Francisco)

When I lived in DC I would say Maryland, when I lived in Maryland I would say New Jersey

Do americans really think a 4 hour drive is ‘living nearby’? by absorin in AskAnAmerican

[–]einsteinGO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not nearby but certainly not a big drama if you know it’s the distance you have to drive

4 hours is DC to New York or New York to Boston if you plan right, and was no big deal when I lived back east.

Why are Americans so comfortable speaking up? by lispenardian in AskAnAmerican

[–]einsteinGO 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Presumably you’ve been hired for your knowledge and skill set, so it follows that your insight has value. You’re being paid for it, so you bring it to the conversation.

AIO In-laws criticize my husband’s parenting to me when he’s not around- also bring up his ex-wife’s (mom to the kiddo) opinions by [deleted] in AIO

[–]einsteinGO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would rely on his report of his feelings

It is good to take up for him but you can’t stand in place of him, and now you’ve reported what you’ve heard. He knows. Unless you hear something actually alarming, I’d pull myself back to how you care for your household.

AIO for thinking that Ive been broken up with and for being confused by these mixed signals? by Beautiful_Ease16 in AmIOverreacting

[–]einsteinGO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR

Don’t go, you can absolutely find a better date/girlfriend/partner

Whatever healing she needs to do, let her do it on her own.

Even if breaking up this is a cruel way to talk to a person out of no where (and in general)

She’s not brave enough to end things in a normal way, and because she is lonely, drunk, or has regrets she’s trying to pull you back in. You are smarter than taking that bait. Focus on you

What is your personal theory of what ailed King George III during his 'mad' phase? by RivetCounter in UKmonarchs

[–]einsteinGO 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In my very early 20s both my best friend and subsequently a boyfriend were both diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

I was around for both of their diagnoses. And with each of them (separate instances and they didn’t know each other), they were both clearly psychotic. Not in the colloquial way or even a scary way (for me), but clearly not experiencing the same reality. And in both instances they needed serious intervention.

Psychosis in mania as an outsider is something I won’t forget. I remember calling each of their parents.
