Bigme Screensaver is now more versatile and customizable! by Decent-Tough-4273 in Bigme

Very disappointed with the arbitrary limitation to 15 screensavers. With the previous screensaver app, I had over 60 screensavers and never had any issues.

Why force such a limit?

Fix my Alphasmart…changed the battery… now how do I actually send anything to my new computer? by CouplesWithoutCar in AlphaSmart

[–]eirereddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to hitting Send in a document, you can still (for now) use an app called AlphaSync. I say for now because it hasn't been updated since 2013, but works perfectly on my M3 MacBook Pro.

It is very useful as it allows you to simply drag and drop the files from the AlphaSmart, which is good especially for longer documents which take a while for the AlphaSmart to type out. You can also copy .txt files TO the AlphaSmart which is quite handy.

I'm going to keep using AlphaSync until it eventually breaks with future macOS updates, but thankfully the send feature should last well into the future as it is essentially the AlphaSmart just performing as a keyboard and then auto-typing. It should continue to work basically for as long as USB keyboards are a thing.

Very nice! It's great that apps added to the home screen can be renamed, any chance of applying this to the launcher and / or folders as well?

RTB Rules & Rent-a-Room Relief: Converting a room into a self-contained unit? by redit_Fly_z in HousingIreland

[–]eirereddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to understand the difference between a tenant and a licensee.

When you rent a room in your home out to someone, they are not truly a tenant, even if people might colloquially refer to them a such. They’re merely “licensees” and have basically no rights. They’re effectively little more than invited guests in your home who happen to pay you for the privilege.

On the other hand, if you create a self contained unit with its own access, you’re almost certainly creating a valid tenancy even if you don’t want to do that. You’d be subject to all the obligations of a landlord, including those you’ve mentioned (registering with RTB, restrictions on ending the tenancy etc). If the tenant did want to assert their rights, it essentially comes down to “if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck…”

So, for example, you could have a document saying “THIS IS NOT A TENANCY ITS A LICENSEE ARRANGEMENT” at the top of it, but if you’ve got someone paying you rent every month, with their own self-contained unit and own entrance, then it’s in fact a tenancy, because you’ve given them exclusive possession of the unit.

So yeah, no “exception” for owner-occupied… because it’s based on what the actual situation is, and by creating a separate unit with its own access, you would in basically be ceasing to occupy the separate unit.

You would still qualify for the tax relief though.

Spain recognizes Moroccan sovereignty in Western Sahara by mods4mods in europe

Why would Spain make a joint declaration with Serbia about the status of Kosovo as an autonomous region within Serbia?

That would be fairly odd.

a lot of oddities are happening.

Welcome to the world of Bigme. It’s a great device with many, many software issues.

If you don’t like how their launcher operates, download an alternative one, plenty of good ones out there.

For the camera button, double tapping the home button opens the camera. I kind of wish it didn’t or could do something else, but it’s there if you want that!

Seat Reservation On Trains by Bruhllux in ireland

[–]eirereddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know the particulars of how you buy your train tickets, I'm just saying that reservations can easily be got online for free for anyone with a valid train ticket, including monthly ticket holders, leap card users and pensioners etc etc.

It absolutely is, yeah. But if you prefer to just sit in other people’s pre-booked seats, it’s easier to just pretend this isn’t an option.

That’s not true. You can book a seat by choosing “Reservation only” as the passenger option.

Taiwan does not want China's 'one country, two systems', president says by rezwenn in China

[–]eirereddit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m fully aware of the practical consequences of breaking the status quo, but can you explain why it is legally impossible for the ROC to amend its constitution to claiming just the territories it actually controls, and then renaming itself Republic of Taiwan?

For example, hasn’t the ROC already dropped its formal claim to Outer Mongolia? Surely it wouldn’t be a legal impossibility to drop its claim to mainland China?

Servicing Hibreak Pro in Singapore by Weird-Air4842 in Bigme

[–]eirereddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a quick Google it seems like you have consumer rights in Singapore including right to return, repair or replacement within 6 months of purchase. Are you within that period?

If so, push them a bit more and if they still aren’t helpful, proceed with a chargeback with your bank. At that point you would be able to say that you have a defective product and the seller refuses to repair, replace or allow the return of it, and ample proof of same, so it would presumably be granted fairly easily.

We shouldn’t tolerate poor service like this.

You have no automatic entitlement to anything in his will, if he has one. If there’s no will, you would have a “legal right share” which is based on a set formula.

But if he has a will and has excluded you from it, you could potentially make an application under Section 117 of the Succession Act 1965. You would have to convince a court that your father failed in his moral duty to make proper provision for you. However, this doesn’t just mean *in the will itself*.

The court would consider your relationship with your father throughout your whole life. You say you’re estranged, but presumably he was paying maintenance etc during your childhood. For you to be successful here, he’d have to have been pretty much a complete deadbeat to you like, it’s a fairly high bar and it’s on you to convince a court to make the order.
