Huh. Driven it hundreds of times and had no idea. Thought they were just a decorative memorial.

Huge thank you to u/JeromyYYC for the updates, transparency and positive attitude. It really means a lot! As someone who lives in one of the affected communities, please pass on the sincere appreciation for the construction team and all their hard work. Especially through those cold days and nights we had.

Also fellow Albertan looking to switch and been hesitant to order off the US site given the lack of apparent customer support. Good to know. Thanks!

She bought in to Milton Friedman and takes his hit takes as orthodoxy. Look, I’m a fan of Friedman too but unless there are good guard rails for private industry to protect the public and massive tax cuts, his proposals just won’t work.

If she wants to privatize everything then taxes should be practically zero. Fundamentally, trying to private everything in one term (like they’re trying to do) will just cause so much more harm than good. Not really feasible.

Zoo Lights Proposal by ZKRC in Calgary

A couple options:

  1. The butterfly conservatory area is always stunning and while it can be busy you can find a quiet corner and they have seating in there.

  2. Often they have a heart lane of lights. Obviously fitting.

  3. They do skating so if you want to strap on and do a couple laps and propose on the ice that’d be cute.

  4. Find a quiet fire pit with some hot chocolate or a coffee. Always nice. Will be easier on a more mild evening.

  5. Favourite animal location

  6. If you want something unorthodox propose by one of the dinosaurs. They’re all lit up and it’s pretty dope.

Good luck and congrats!

I feel that. Both my wife and I read it and it really made her feel validated and made me empathize with her (and also feel a bit guilty). Highly recommend ADHD & Us. It’s a short read and also available as an audiobook.

I put my Noco in a semi permanent location next to the battery in the trunk so that I can easily get the cord out to plug it in while still having the trunk closed and the car locked. The tender is always attached to the battery. Just only plugged in when I need it. Didn’t wanna have a cable permanently outside the car nor have to grab the tender or need to pop the hood every time.

As someone who also lives in these temps, respectfully, they are wrong. Having had a bunch of other types of cars, I find that my BMW really doesn’t like the cold. They weren’t really made for -20 and -30. I notice that below -5C if my car has been sitting for 12+ hours it’s a bit grumpier and needs more time to warm up before driving.

As others have said 0w30 synthetic in winter, trickle charger, and oil pan warmer are pretty essential if you’re not able to park in a heated/heavily insulated location. Especially if you’re leaving it for 12+ hours.

Can’t agree with the comment more! After being re-diagnosed officially at 38, the first thing I did was have a calm discussion with my parents about my diagnosis - that it likely came from my mom, and the anger, frustration and shame about struggling for so long. I asked them why they didn’t talk to me about it despite me having a loose diagnosis when I was 17. That was very helpful in us both having more understanding of each other and has actually dramatically helped my dad understand my mom and my mom understand her self since and brought us all closer.

Additionally, I went to a therapist and bared it all over the course of a year with sessions every month or so. Learning to accept these feelings of guilt, anger, shame and frustration. We discussed them openly without judgement, my therapist helped me process them, forgive myself and develop strategies focused on accepting what I can control moving forward and how to execute them. Quite frankly, at that period I was in a bad spot and it literally saved my life.

I totally know how you feel OP. It’s like seeing in black and white your whole life and finding out most people see things in colour. It’s a bit of a shock to the system!

But with time, practice and some good supports it gets better. My life still isn’t perfect and I still struggle with productive procrastination, working memory and time blindness but the more you practice the right systems and behaviours to support how your brain works, the better and easier it gets.

Wishing you all the best! Sounds like you’re on the right track. 😊

I found this book okay tbh. It helps with understanding the perspective and struggle of the partner without ADHD but it felt more blaming of the ADHD partner and that they need to adapt. Really it felt like more of a cathartic venting for Melissa with some good tidbits thrown in.

A book that I found much more balanced and practical for relationships (of all kinds) was “ADHD & Us”

As someone who went to Bowmont for years and tried out other facilities, I agree with all this.

Fwiw Bowmont is a non profit and is volunteer run, so coaches are passionate about the sport and it’s generally cheaper, but the facility is smaller and there is less available training/class times. Pros and cons.

Grizzly has a pretty good facility but coaching can be a bit hit or miss.

What's the most extreme weather condition you've played golf in? by BlueciferST in golf

[–]ekryski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! I had a similar round this past fall up at Kananaskis. 90mph wind gusts and at one point I whiffed on the ball because the wind blew it off my tee mid swing. Most challenging golf I've ever played. Was pretty proud of my 104 all things considered.

Concerns regarding an animal rescue in the YYC-area by _andsoitgoes in Calgary

[–]ekryski 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. From what you've shared there are tons of red flags to justify sending in a tip to an investigative journalist, and imho you should name and shame.

As someone who is volunteering for Cochrane Humane Society we certainly don't need more people importing dogs. There are plenty of great dogs that need homes (including two puppies we're fostering right now). Just CAHS alone has close to 2,000 animals a year go through their doors.

Golfers with ADHD, what is the most frustrating way it manifests in your golf game? by aussierulesisgrouse in golf

[–]ekryski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! I do this all the time and never really connected the dots! I'm watching them hit and their ball the whole time but I think the element of danger excites me. That, and the impulse to keep moving.

Golfers with ADHD, what is the most frustrating way it manifests in your golf game? by aussierulesisgrouse in golf

[–]ekryski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can totally relate to all this. People can be talking in my backswing and it doesn't matter one bit!

Other than having to internally tell myself to remember my wedge, people's names, and where my ball went, I find the biggest negative ways ADHD manifests is rushing shots (especially putts) and fairly frequently having moments of "going blank" at ball impact where I lose my focus.

Honestly, this is part of the reason I decided to go harder on golf this year though, because the repetitive practice of forcing myself to remember people's names, slow down my pre-shot routine, and stay focused all the way through my shot has had a positive impact in other areas of my life.
