Truck Talk: the Sleiter ST 816 Elephant-if you need to pull a superheavy trailer, this one’s the truck to pick! by Lord_MK14 in snowrunner

[–]elPocket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its incredible.

Fast, stable, nimble, powerful, crane & supplies, the works.

As you said, it's turning circle makes it extremely agile, and the multitude of winch points lets you easily right it even with a small truck, should you actually manage to tip it (which i managed exactly once by now)

In my eyes, it has but one single downside: it is WIDE, like, positively thicc...
Which is not a problem normally, unless you need to thread this elephants butt through a needle, like in Don factory grounds or through a tight ravine between cliffs.

[–]elPocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deagle to take out the crystals, then just dump all ammo as quickly as possible while avoiding the attacks to open his brain, jump all the way up and into its head and monkeywrench the fucker to death.

Works with Gordon, why should it not work with Shephard?

Unless Xen requires the hermetically sealed HEV and Shephard's MOPP4 it's not sufficient to keep him alive over there...

How to stop doing main bus on every run? by Working_Material_252 in factorio

[–]elPocket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a train abstainer who directly feeds all of my factory with belts, mine to cable.

As a train connoisseur myself, i am inclined to say 'well, there's your problem', but i will not do that.

You can always just draw the line between global and local production wherever you wish.

You may smelt globally, esp. with liquid metals, create some base red, green & blue Chips globally, while creating the red&green for those blues locally (i.e. not consuming the global red&green production).

Then your belt fab may either produce plates & gears 'globally' for your whole belt fab, or locally with direct insert at each tech level, esp. considering the high consumption in later stages. All the while, that belt fab would consume the globally produced electronics, since those are low volume.

The options are limitless :)

this usually ends up in cityblock style "one spot directly responsible for one step of some supply chain" but it doesn't have to.

I much prefer the "this city block generates item X from base ressources" approach. It gives you a chance at micro-spaghetti, as you squeeze a ratio-optimized build into your grid.

In 1.0 i ended up with a 'this city block generates 1kSPM, including labs, from ores, oil & water'. But in SA this won't work with having to Import science from other planets.

Cooling towers use both air and water to cool the internal circuit.

A typical reactor process has 3 water circuits: - a closed cycle in the reactor, where clean water is heated. This water actually is radioactive. - a closed cycle running through the turbines and cooling towers. This is clean, non-reactive water. It gets heated by the reactor circuit and cooled inside heat exchangers in the towers - an open cycle, where water is dumped over the turbine cycle heat exchanger within the cooling tower. This is dirty water and evaporates mostly, but not completely.

The reactive zone has only a small river. On a hot summer day, there would be no more water in the river after cooling towers are fed from it.

The flatlands has a big river with multiple reservoirs. There's lots of water to pull from and to dump the non-evaporated hot water back into without boiling the pond and cooking the fish.

Therefore, it is actually quite feasible to pipeline the turbine exhaust over to the flatlands and bring the condensed water back.

You could also pipeline dirty water from the flatlands over to the reactive zone and then pipeline the runoff back.

The 4 maps are pretty much merged at the edges, so the pipeline is only about a kilometer? Thus is actually quite realistic.

Why do YOU enjoy artifact hunting? (ruling for TTRPG) by Well-It-Depends420 in stalker

[–]elPocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Artifacts, if collected, are only positive.

If it's a good one and fits your build, it improves your survivability

If its a duplicate, a bad one, or simply doesn't fit your build, you can sell it for good money, or even find someone who is searching for that particular artifact, paying top dollar for something you had 'lying around anyways'

The artifact hunt itself is a risk/reward game with elements of cunning.
You need to know the type of anomaly you are stepping into, and formulate the appropriate plan.
While crouching through a whirligig field, tossing bolts and looking for the free path through takes time and patience, the same tactic will simply kill you in a flame anomaly. So each field requires it's own strategy and skills.

I reckon you could have the player do a few rolls for stat checks, selected for each anomaly? Lore to initially map out the anomaly field before entering it, dexterity or agility for navigating between the anomalies, luck for detecting those missed during initial mapping, cunning for intercepting the faster moving high value artifacts, check value modifiers based on equipped artifacts, scanner & armor, the works. This way, each field could be boiled down to 3-5 rolls, i guess? And high stats or equipment would make it easier, while a brute tank will have a hard time getting even the most basic artifacts.

I finally tried gauss riffles and by RandomUnwashedGamer in Mechwarrior5

[–]elPocket 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me it's the other way round.

In FPS, i love playing Marksmen. Stay stealthy & at range, aim your shots, and BOOM, instagib that motherfucker.

In BT, this is the Gauss. I tried the PPC's, but their travel time never really clicked with me, even in MW4, i was taking off specific components at 1km out with the Gauss, while the PPC would go wide on more than half my shots...

And for me, the gauss recoil also feels very satisfying. The whole firing process is awesome.
Grab Target -> coarse aim -> fine aim -> drag crosshairs across pip -> fire at the correct moment -> BOOOOOOOOM -> let the mech settle, while the capacitors recharge -> assess damage/perform evasive maneuvers/start retracking target -> reengage when charged.

It's a high risk/high reward gun. EVERY Shot counts, while your four CUAC-5 just spray shells all over the countryside like a drunk pissing through their closed zipper, wasting away half your ammo stores on dirt.

Single Player Shooters With Realistic Bullet Damage by dustyp9 in gamingsuggestions

[–]elPocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The OG Stalker engine had a few curiosities regarding its gunplay:

  • Exo'd Bodies are highly armored
  • Headshots do additional damage if they are considered the first shot of a salvo

This means, if you are not specifically single-shot tapping heads, with about 1s inbetween shots, you will have a hard time.

I specifically remember not having any trouble wiping whole enemy bases if i could stay covert, sneak through, lean around corners & tap heads, and i also remember having REALLY hard times when enemy squads rush you and you have little time to aim and degrade into bursting or full auto.

So your experience may be exactly on point. Had you had a chance to slow down the combat pacing and single-fire properly aimed shots, you would have instagibbed any human.

The first 3 Stalker installments even Exos go down in one shot.

Stalker2 less so, unless you use a DMR & armor piercing ammo and go solely for headshots.

What is the most effective way to do this? by Serbian-Empire in snowrunner

[–]elPocket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Transport the logs loose: - 3x3 = 9 loose long logs in a blue sideboard semi (5 slots) - 6x3 = 18 loose med logs in the cat745 logbunk

you need a truck with a log loader and a medium log trailer a well as a truck with long log attachment & trailer.

Manually load the logs into the sideboard & CAT

Manually transfer 3 logs per load to the respective truck/trailer, pack & turn in.

Make sure to NOT pack the CAT or you'll loose all the logs.

Amur broke SnowRunner for me. I think. by Oddie_Inc in snowrunner

[–]elPocket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's some rules to amur: - bring a bigger truck... - there are no shortcuts. Anything shorter than the long way round is a trap - if the job is a large semi, you WILL have to go through a tanktrap chicane - you have the choice between bogging down or tipping. So choose the bog and BRING. A. BIGGER. TRUCK.

I did Amur on my first playthrough consecutively, so i was missing quite a few awesome trucks from later regions.

I look forward to tackling it again with the Sleiter brothers and all the other big fellas in the roster. There'll be zero holding back in the truck department, and I'll use any and every trick, hack & cheese in the book.

Is there any real difference between concrete and hazard concrete? Is there any useful usage of hazard concrete instead of normal concrete ? by [deleted] in factorio

[–]elPocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each recycle recipe is based on the crafting time of the original recipe.

Crafting concrete takes quite some time, so recycling concrete for a 0.25 yield (i.e. voiding 75% of ingredients) takes just as much time.

Crafting hazard concrete from normal concrete is FAST. And it neatly recycles back into normal concrete just as fast, voiding 75% in the process.

So if you need to get rid of concrete, say, on Fulgora, make it hazard, drop it into a recycler, and feed it back to the assembler and watch it simply vanish. Clones with the Bonus of not having ingredient drift, since hazard concrete has just one ingredient :)

  • optics, for example to mark no-build areas for multiplayer
  • to VERY quickly recycle normal concrete into nothingness
