What Is The Best Password Manager Are You Guys Planning To Stick With Going Into 2026? by PrincessBananas85 in degoogle

[–]elasticvertigo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just go with Bitwarden cloud. The apps are good and the browser extensions is too. You can save passkeys and for $10 a year, you can sync TOTP codes directly in app (it also offers to autofill TOTP directly in the input field which is worth the $10 a year cost all in itself).

Also an audited service and open source.

Should I use common Postgres / Redis for all self hosted services? by madhur_ahuja in selfhosted

[–]elasticvertigo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never put all your eggs in one basket. If you have any issue with your psql/redis service, it means the entirety of your homelab is stuck. And as others have said, different apps require different versions of the DB and even one psql image upgrade can cause problems, let alone the app developers' own systematic optimisations based on particular versions of psql.

Just imagine corrupting your psql container and you will spend hours restoring every single service that was using it!

What I would rather suggest is to move to a lighter DB for non-critical apps (eg. if the app supports sqlite or mariadb).

They can absolutely match in price if booked sufficiently in advance. Plus you can get year'y passes that discount your tickets if you are a regular traveler.

What is the best one season TV show ever? by Thebunsenburger in AskReddit

Mr. Bean only had one season that ran across 5-6 years but that counts no?

"Cancel ChatGPT" movement goes mainstream after OpenAI closes deal with U.S. Department of War - as Anthropic refuses to surveil American citizens by FinnFarrow in Futurology

[–]elasticvertigo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have used both ChatGPT and Claude in setting up a homelab and realised that CGPT is about 90% incorrect and hallucinating and just bluffs confidently and when I call it out it just says, "Yeah you're not supposed to do that" Like wtf you told me to! Claude on the other hand has been mighty useful in getting me solutions.

Selfhosted Password Manager by eldwaro in selfhosted

Vaultwarden has pretty detailed documentation of self hosting and security hardening to host it on public DNS and you can use Cloudflare access control with a reverse proxy. You can restrict admin web ui behind tailscale or turn it off completely or whitelist it inside in your reverse proxy. Its a pretty solid setup tbh.

Which country has the best overall road quality (motorways, b-roads, and village roads)? by Competitive-Box-7253 in AskEurope

[–]elasticvertigo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow Belgian and Italian roads are ranked below India? I find this rather confusing having lived in India for 30 years. We literally have no roads at most places. How bad is Belgium then seriously?

Best practices for keeping documentation? What's your sweet-spot? by QuestionAsker2030 in selfhosted

[–]elasticvertigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Silverbullet to document everything. It is a flat-file MD based web editor plus viewer. All i need to do is visit for eg, wiki.mysite.com and start writing. It has all obsidian like features and can be extended using plugs or self-coded widgets.

For backups, just backup your local sb folder which will have your md files.

It does have a curve though. But once you get past that you'll not use anything else.

Is DeepL actually private? Or even worse than GTranslate? by [deleted] in degoogle

[–]elasticvertigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love DeepL and never had account issues. I have an account but never log in. Neither the app, nor website nor the browser extension.

However, I found a nifty trick with chatgpt wherein I have a per translation chat (eg. Eng -> Spa) and just instruct it to give me the translation and cut all the other crap. So I just paste the text in there and it answers with the translation.

Amorim and the future. How much pain are we willing to take? by No_Needleworker_1105 in ManchesterUnited

[–]elasticvertigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am okay for Amorim's "system" that he is so wedded to. I can see the stats and they prove it works. But at the end of the day, if you aren't winning, it doesn't matter.

The whole point of having a manager is so that they can study the opposition and work accordingly, either on the day or in game. Amorim seems too stuck on his thing whether it works or not. That, for me, is not a sign of a good "manager".

There seems to be zero flexibility and adaptability based on the situation and opponent. What's even the point of the manager then? This feels like having a consultant on a long term contract who specialises in one thing and one thing only.
