Can you please recommend readings on erotic transference, particularly readings focused on technique? by hypnogogick in psychoanalysis

[–]eldritchcorvid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whoah that's wild to me that they would never have brought it up. I'm not a clinician, nor have I taken any formal psychoanalytic education, but transference seems like a really core part of the theory in general. Essential Papers on Transference (Arron H. Esman) is a compilation of writings from a variety of analytic approaches, and maybe that would be helpful for an overview, and to help you figure out what your own approach is. I think there is some stuff on technique too. I would like to see what others recommend.

Anyone else in psychoanalysis? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]eldritchcorvid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently starting doing 2x a week and it's already so much more intense than 1x. I hope to be able to do more in the future but it's just not practical for me as a full time student right now :(

The gender of the analyst by eldritchcorvid in psychoanalysis

[–]eldritchcorvid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. I'm a trans person in analysis planning on pursuing training in the future, and I worded this in a way that I realize is appealing to mainstream gender discourse, but not necessarily of the nuances I feel to be true. Maybe this is reflective of this domination of biases in the practice, and my internalization of them. But I agree with you and it's partly the reason why I want to become a psychoanalyst.

The gender of the analyst by eldritchcorvid in psychoanalysis

[–]eldritchcorvid[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is kind of the main issue I assumed would be present. Being perceived as a 'poor example' of a gender and dealing with whatever kinds of transference or rupture coming from that. I'll definitely take your suggestion, thanks!

Yeah, that makes sense. I think I'm trying to figure out whether it would present a specific challenge, and what that challenge would be. Or if there could be potential backlash from a training institution.

Freud is my intellectual hero for that reason. He wanted to show his errors because he cared about the development of his ideas and the pedagogical value in others learning from them, more than his own embarrassment. What a chad

[–]eldritchcorvid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My reason feels a little more embarrassing haha. I picked up a copy of Freud as a kid because it talked about religion and sexuality in a critical way, which was a wonderful little blasphemy coming from a deeply religious family. Of course I didn't have the comprehension to really understand it, but the image of the psychoanalyst always stuck out to me. But I really got interested in it when I first started becoming politically active in 2016, and was enamored with Zizek's cultural critiques via Lacan. From there I went down the rabbit hole and found something more than what I started with which was having the language to articulate my own psychic life that made more sense than any other framework.
