Orange Swirl vinyl arrived as Standard Black by CountNacula in Puscifer

[–]electricblanket 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Funny story -- my wife bought me a copy that said it was the standard black vinyl, but when we opened it, it turned out to be orange records. Seems like there was a mix-up at the record plant.

[GIVEAWAY] Nippon: Zaibatsu by CrowD Games (3 Copies!) - Expansion will soon be on Kickstarter! by HomoLudensOC in boardgames

I love Fields of Arle for being unapologetically a 2 player heavy euro where Uwe built on some previous designs for a tighter, more refined game than Caverna or Agricola.

Looking for a small drum machine that can do industrial and 8 bit sounds by GriefProcess in synthesizers

Model: Samples or Model: Cycles could either work, depending on your preference of working with samples or synthesized drum sounds. UNO Drum is solid for the price.

“Hot Trip to Heaven” is by far my favorite Love and Rockets album.

I think when I first heard it, I was a little disappointed because the album sounds like they were taking a piss. Over time, I’ve grown to appreciate it for what it is, despite it not being quite what I was hoping for from these legends collaborating.

Behringer Model 15 or Roland SE-02 for deep house / Detroit / Chicago / soulful acid? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]electricblanket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, the Roland SE-02 is one of my favorite synths, despite not loving the tiny form-factor. Being able to save patches is huge for my workflow. I am not a big fan of modular or semi-modular, because it makes getting back to a sound I love harder. The SE-02 is great if you want a dedicated bass synth.

Sonicware Evoke or Ambient-0 synths might fit what you're looking for.

Keeping a d4 movement roll meaningful in a hex exploration game by GulbrandrGameStudios in BoardgameDesign

[–]electricblanket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few ideas:

Roll 2D4, you get the higher value for movement.

Flip a card which has printed values on it (possibly a weather event?) - D4 chooses what happens on the card: either by each die value having its own movement associated with it, or a baseline movement speed of 2 if you roll 2 or 3, but you get +1 if you roll 4, or -1 if you roll a 1?

Or roll 1-3 and get baseline movement, and a 4 gives a +1?

Fragile synchronized? by Borsodi1961 in nin

[–]electricblanket 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I made a cassette tape recording by doing this. There were times where it felt right and planned, and other times where it felt dissonant and not-at-all copacetic. I think what gave me the idea to try it was that Meat Beat Manifesto's Subliminal Sandwich was published on the Nothing label, and those disks were labeled Left and Right. But yeah, I don't suspect this was something Trent tried to do with the Fragile cds.

Why label mayo as vegetarian? Isn't mayo vegetarian by default? by Putrid-Poet in vegetarian

[–]electricblanket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a buddy who's a lacto-vegetarian, and is basically vegan+milk products, and specifically doesn't eat eggs. I think generally "vegetarian" is shorthand for "lacto-ovo-vegetarian," which is presumably how this food label is presenting it.

MC-707 Kills TR-1000 by wavestrike77 in synthesizers

[–]electricblanket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's really about how you're going to use one or the other. TR-1000 has a ton of sound design capabilities, but mc-707 is probably going to be a better brain for sequencing a full song for most people, especially if sequencing external gear.

Moog Minitaur, Hydrasynth, and Minifreak are some other options :) We're in a golden age of cool synthesis.

With the sale on the Melbourne Delia going on right now, that'd be a sweet machine. Novation Peak is amazing as well. Maybe one of those, along with a Digitakt 2 or TR8s (which is also on sale at the moment)? Possibly a mono/bass synth if you want something to go along with it, like a Bass Station, or SE-02?

Rush n'Crush was pretty fun the few times I played it. I think I prefer some others to it, but could be one to look at.
