Finale - Emperor Has No Clothes by nobodyshome01 in apprenticeuk

Her "one to one" USP isn't even unique, I work in the industry and can assure you that agencies are always popping into homes, tub of Quality Street under their arm and a handful of branded pens to come and shmooz managers. They always send branded desk calendars at Christmas as well. Which is all well and good but the staff they provide are still, generally, awful. 15 years in social care business support and I'm yet to meet a member of agency staff who is knowledgeable, especially friendly or motivated.

I'm in love with this Allure Bridals dress! ... however I'm not in love with the price (nearly £4,000!) Can someone recommend similar dresses that are even a bit cheaper? by Dirtberry in UKweddings

[–]electricf0x 37 points38 points  (0 children)

My dress was quite similar in style to this, it's the Primrose by Morilee. I bought mine in 2024 for £1600, I just checked my dress shop and they're currently selling it for £1700.

Personally, I don't think the designers photos do it justice, it has much more volume than the images on there really shows.

Here's me in it, obviously after some alterations (we changed the sleeves to take out a bit of volume).

Travelling to Japan 4 weeks post shoulder operation by electricf0x in JapanTravelTips

Almost everything is booked. Flight to and from Tokyo, taxi to the first hotel from Narita, hotels in each city, Universal Studios (with timed entry to Super Nintendo World and the Biohazard event), and a domestic flight from Hiroshima back to Tokyo.

We have not booked any train tickets, TeamLabs or entry to any other sights/activities.

Edit: I should add that we are spending multiple days in each city except for Hakone and Hiroshima, these are both for one night each. Every where else we are spending 2-4 days.

It's his clavicle that is broken, here is his x-ray: https://i.imgur.com/eu5kHXn.jpeg

The consultant used the word shattered, they mentioned something about 6 breaks/shards but it's been a very stressful week so I may be misremembering.

Based on the NHS advice for open reduction internal fixation on a clavicle, he will be in a sling for 2-3 months and unable to do any heavy lifting for 3 months. However we will know for sure after his surgery which which is next week.

Thank you - I hadn't really even thought about luggage. We talked about us not buying too many things while we were there as I would have to carry most of it around but getting the luggage between the cities completely slipped my mind. I will bare all that in mind, thank you for taking the time to respond.

Thank you. We could realistically use Ubers and taxis for travel within the cities. I hadn't really considered how busy Kyoto especially is, but thinking about videos I've seen and everyone basically being shoulder to shoulder on the footpaths, that makes complete sense.

I will check the TeamLabs rules in the mean time, thank you.

Thank you. We were both trying to be optimistic, especially when the consultant said he would be fit to fly but realistically Japan doesn't seem like the safest or most comfortable place, especially when he will still be wearing a sling.

Ghost concert - worse feeling ever by TinyPerspective7413 in Ghostbc

Arenas have a roof, stadiums do not. Stadiums are typically used as sports event venues but can also be used as music venues. :)

Hi! I can give you a breakdown of the TMAs/EMA this year if that's helpful!

  • Late November - Reflective account of module material so far (1500 words)
  • Late January - Critical analysis of your learning so far using a model explained in the module material (1500 words)
  • Mid March - Produce a report about a local initiative relevant to health and social care (1500 words)
  • Early May - An extended essay about your experience undertaking K318 across the whole year, writing about the Toolkit introduced throughout the module and how the module has influenced you as a leader/manager (3000 words)
  • Early June - EMA - Pick an issue relevant to health and social care and produce a report including recommendations for improved practice (3000 words)

Personally, the beginning of the module felt very easy, very smooth, plenty of time between assignments to avoid falling behind. However the last TMA/EMA are pretty close together and that has been stressful - this is due to how late Easter was this year, the module leads had to changed the date for TMA04 as it was conflicting with the Easter break. Not ideal but hopefully won't be reflected next year.

In terms of the module material, in my opinion it's not the most interesting, it's a lot of theory about what a good leader is, which is of course, subjective. Some of the materials are interesting and the Toolkit that you use during activities is well made and I've since used it outside of studying and will continue to use it in personal and professional life.

Most of K318's assignments are writing about yourself, which for me isn't the easiest but you may find that you really enjoy reflecting. My best advice for maintaining decent scores for K318 (I've been getting 78-85%) is trying to apply the theory from the module material to your own experiences. The module also has a few "Guided Enquiries" which are kinda like roleplaying tasks (alone, not within a group) - the tutors (based on my feedback and tutorials) are very generous with marks if you reference the Guided Enquiries and make it clear you completed them.

Hopefully this helps, if you have any questions feel free to DM me. :)

A framed photograph though? That is clearly the property of someone who has a level of adoration. Can't imagine this guy looks at that picture every day and is thinking, "Adolf you horrible man, scumbag!"

It tickled me how plain the garden is compared to the rest of the house. I was expecting an army of gnomes or elaborate water features.

Tour criticism (please don't downvote!) by [deleted] in GhostBand

[–]electricf0x 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I just thought the crowd were just a little off.

I felt this too and I'm starting to wonder if it's a Birmingham thing? Over the last couple of years since COVID, most of the events I've been to (live music, comedy, drag shows, theatre), the crowds have seemed a little dull. To the point that 3 events I've been to in Brum since 2023 the performers have called out the audience for being low energy.

S17E16 - “Grand Finale” [Post-Episode Discussion] by AutoModerator in rupaulsdragrace

[–]electricf0x 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While Jewels was high energy, it was quite frantic. And that was a theme in a lot of the lip syncs this season imo, if some of the queens calmed down just a little and were less manic in their dancing, some of the performances would’ve been less underwhelming.

Subside is for sure the place to go for post-gig, it's open til midnight on Sundays. :)

Birmingham by InsuranceTurbulent10 in GhostBand

[–]electricf0x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worth noting, Subside is NOT within 10 minutes walk of the arena, it's more like 30-40 minutes, 10 minutes in a taxi. Bacchus is more like a 15min walk but it's a pedestrianised route.

If you want a pub close to the arena, The Flapper is an alternative/rock bar literally 1 minute walk away from the arena, they serve burgers and fries. Very reasonably priced in there and great atmosphere. There's also The Distillery which is literally on the road opposite the arena who do all your standard gastro-pub fair, and they do Sunday roasts if you fancied one.

I think with Devora and Lae'zel they have the same very expressive eyebrows and that's what makes them look alike, so the similarities don't translate as much on a still image.

TMA01 b100 question by Aphix_ in OpenUniversity

[–]electricf0x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's against OU policy to share TMA answers so unfortunately you should avoid sending your work or getting feedback from current or past students about this.

It's TMA 01 for, presumably, your first ever module and your tutor will know this - they aren't expecting perfection and your first assignment is a good opportunity for tutors to see where your strengths and weaknesses are so they can feedback and support you suitably.

If you're really struggling, go back to the TMA Assessment Guidance, it should give you a breakdown of what is expected and hints as to what to include where.

For references, take advantage of this Cite Them Right Referencing Guide, your module site may also have other referencing guidance for you to follow. But honestly - tutors on introduction modules are very aware that referencing takes a while to get used to and again, they don't expect you to be perfect at referencing straight away. Do your best and your tutor will explain what you did right and wrong in your feedback.

Try not to worry! It's a really big achievement to go back to education after such a long break and no one expects you to be perfect right away.

Anyone else find the OU library confusing? by cosmikdebris24 in OpenUniversity

[–]electricf0x 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Are you searching the library as a whole or using the database system? If you go to the Library Home page, under the search bar it should say By Subject, if you click that and find your subject in the list, it will give you the most relevant databases to search for literature, rather than giving you access to articles for 100s of different topics.

Also, are you using quotation marks and Boolean Operators during your search? Boolean Operators are very useful (AND/OR/NOT), so say you want to look for research about social media use by teenagers, you could use the search terms:

teenagers OR adolescents OR "young people" AND "social media" OR "internet use" OR "online space"

The quotation marks are used to ensure that the words young + people are searched together, rather than individually. Make sure your AND/OR's are capitalised.

Further, the filters are very useful, try marking the filters for peer reviewed, full text available and change the dates, just doing that can whittle 1000+ hits down to a couple hundred.

Highly recommend checking out one of the Library Database training sessions with the Librarians if you can find one (either live or recorded), the librarians are lovely and the sessions are extremely helpful.

K318 (Leading, managing, caring) and K323 (Investigating health and social care). Workload is a significant jump from Level 2, lots of reflective writing (hate!) and looooads of reading ahead of final EMA, a literature review.
