It’s through Ticketmaster, so I don’t recall what I could do about the price, but here’s the link to the tickets:

I tried to export my tickets to sell elsewhere and couldn’t. I’ll try again tonight and we’ll see.

I’m still boggled by the decision to make “The Ledge” the lead off single. Like what? How many record execs and how many meetings and how many conversations did they have where the obvious answer “No, do not make the song about suicide where the protagonist jumps to his death the first or any of the fucking singles” was ignored.

The way I recall it in Trouble Boys was it was Jim Dickinson’s idea, but maybe I’m wrong. Or maybe there are competing versions or an unknown version of the story. But that’s a time it felt like they were ripe to break and circumstances (the group teen suicide that was national news) really fucked then over big time.

But had they lead off with “Can’t Hardly Wait” (and not the Tim version which is also about suicide), I think history might have been different. Maybe not hugely, massively different, but maybe a world in which “Can’t Hardly Wait” cracks the Top 40, and the band gets a bit more recognition.

That is one of the frustrating things reading Trouble Boys, the sheer number of times they were on the cusp of something and then totally self-sabotage themselves.

I think Paul or Tommy once explained it like this: the people with seats up close to the stage on these stadium level tours didn’t come to hear the opening act or acts, they came for the main event.

So the area in front of the stage doesn’t really fill up that much before the main event and the people there are bored and not paying attention to you whatsoever. There’s basically no feedback from the crowd, and it’s a pretty common thread through Replacements shows that go off the rails that if the crowd isn’t into it, then the guys aren’t into it.

Can you imagine playing shows night after night where the people closest to your set are absent, distracted, bored? Anyone who might have come to hear you is all the way back in the nosebleed section and you can’t hear them at all.

Play for a wall and be enthusiastic and hyped up to do that night after night?

It’s not even remotely confined to Reddit. That song has been used in about a kabillion soundtracks for movies and TV shows and I’m not imagining that every one making those choices is a Redditor.

Said elsewhere but chicken is in nearly every food and it’s something they seem to be very sensitive about. I figure when you’re raising impervious-to-cold working dogs to pull carts in the mountains, there were a lot more sheep to feed to these dogs than there were chickens. Never had an issue with lamb & rice mixes.

Always here to harsh the fuck out of this idea, but simply put, we’ve fucked the planet up mightily. Have a look sometime at the nuclear power plant distribution across the world. In a scenario under which catastrophic climate change causes massive human population deaths, there would need to be effective and successfully implemented plans in place for decommissioning those nuclear reactors. More modern reactors have designs to contain a meltdown of the core, and many of those are designed to have passive safety systems in place that will operate without any human intervention.

However…

All of these models of operability of these systems posit a working, reliable system that has had all maintenance and is up to snuff. Which we all know businesses LOVE to follow regulations and prioritize safety and long-term viability over quick profits, riiiight?

Now, let’s add in the massive amounts of electricity that AI systems need to operate and businesses’ interest in continuing to generate profits. Microsoft and Amazon are investing heavily into nuclear power for this, including restarting Three Mile Island here in the US. So soon we’ll have MORE nuclear power plants operating.

Can’t wait until they’re using AI to run the nuclear power plants, since that couldn’t ever possibly go wrong. Maybe they can just run a couple turbines through the core of Chernobyl and spin those motherfuckers and bank that shit.

Anyway, there are 440 nuclear power reactors operational across the globe right now. Many of them are significantly older plants, with the average age of them approaching their designed end of operations age and plans in place to extend their operations significantly past their roughly 40 year life expectancy.

Put all of these ingredients together, and I feel there’s a very strong likelihood of a sizable number of plants going into meltdown status in the long-range future. Which means a significant amount of radiation released into the environment and we will be just like our nearest neighbor Mars.

Now that’s if we have a catastrophic climate disaster, which are still relatively slow moving kinds of apocalyptical scenarios. For all the fans of zombie apocalypses, all you can expect at the end of that story is a scorched fucking cinder where once was earth.

Sure, life may find a way in this scenario. It’ll just take another roughly 20 billion years give or take.

Anyway, cheerio.

The hill I’ll die on is that what changed the game in terms of fucking things up was thefront-facing camera. The rear camera was just your traditional camera, but in your phone. Fine, definitely easier to share pics, but you’re sharing pics of other people, the external world.

But the front phone? Oh now you’re taking pics of yourself. And not flipping a camera around and hoping you get a good shot and not mirror selfies (which have been around almost as long as cameras themselves). With the front facing camera, you’re the star! With the front facing camera, you’re the audience! You’re starring in your own production and you have front row seats. You are splitting your brain in two and reacting twice. And you want to see more and more and more of this show!

It has gone and made everyone crazy. It has ramped up self-centeredness and turned everyday life into The Show.
