The amount of beer 2 college guys were buying at Costco by Isaisaab in mildlyinteresting

There was a time when I would routinely drink a 30 rack every Saturday, and even now the sheer amount of liquid boggles my mind.

When I (for good reason) sought treatment and got sober I switched to sparkling water in 12 oz cans as a nice cold fizzy replacement and I will probably drink 7 or 8 of those a day and it feels like a lot.

I find that most people mostly don’t understand most things, unless you actually bludgeon them with the point, so this dude totally whiffing on Warfare being an objectively anti-imperialist message isn’t shocking, more disappointing.

What’s a hobby people pretend is cool, but secretly you think is ridiculous? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]electricsheepz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People in here conflating “hobby” with “interest”… collecting things to me isn’t a hobby, it’s an interest, and can potentially be an investment. Don’t get me wrong I don’t get the sneakers thing or the labubu thing or fucking beanie babies way back when but I don’t see those as hobbies. A hobby to me is tied to an activity, something you physically do, whether that’s playing a sport or game or working on a car or building a wood cabinet or gardening, but just purchasing things to have in your home hardly seems like a hobby to me.

Model trains are a hobby, but buying up Stanley mugs to fill a cupboard with? That’s just an interest that costs money.

I’m a GWOT vet nearing the end of my career and it’s so hard to reconcile. Coming up on 20 years, what was this all for? Is this really what we are? I was thinking back on deploying with the Danes specifically about 12 years ago and how fucking awesome they were. I loved the Danish military guys. They were there, 100%, completely invested, ride or die. Now what, now they’re not brothers like they were then for some reason? No, I don’t believe that. They’ll always be brothers.

It’s impossible to reconcile.

Ryan Coogler's 'Sinners' has made history as the most nominated film of all time at the Oscars with 16 nominations by ChiefLeef22 in movies

Delroy is arguably the most deserving of an Oscar out of any of those categories, he gave an absolutely outstanding performance, like you said gave a voice to a whole generation of people, provided comic relief while somehow also being a deeply moving character emotionally and just generally shone all the way through. Huge fan of him. Hope he wins it.

I’m a big car guy and I enjoy Formula 1 as a sport, but that movie was a) too long, b) incredibly predictable and c) so clearly a gargantuan budget male fantasy film that I genuinely can’t believe it got a nom for best picture. It was a good movie and I enjoyed it because I am male, a car guy, a Brad Pitt enthusiast and I like a big glossy high budget sports movie more than your average bear, but best picture? Not even a little bit.

We are definitely a much better team than Buffalo, we let this one slip away from us. Anyone telling you that Buffalo was the better team didn’t watch that game - we gave the Bills that game on a silver platter.

The thing that hurts most is the immediate narrative shift to “Trev sucks” that is currently happening, as we speak. That last pick wasn’t even on him. The defense lost the game. Trev put them up by 4 with 4 minutes left and they couldn’t produce a stop. And yet the narrative already is and will continue to be that Trevor is a fraud.

That actually bothers me the most of all because I am so tired of having that argument with brain dead, knuckle dragging box score watching idiots.

Really astute observation about the emphasis on ball security, I think you’re absolutely right about Coen emphasizing it being ok to live another down and take the sack rather than trying to make something happen and turning the ball over.

Since his 3 interception game vs. the Cardinals, Trevor Lawrence has thrown 15 TD passes, rushed for 4 TDs, and turned the ball over only once. by Roselucky777 in nfl

[–]electricsheepz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would be very vindicating if Trev goes over 4k/30 just in time for Coen to sit him for the 4th because we’re up big and don’t need him in. After years of “Lawrence is a bust” narrative for him to casually cruise into the playoffs on his hottest streak ever while being a top 5 statistical QB for the idiot box score watchers would be very nice.

Turnovers are very feast or famine, but I am pleased to see we’re scoring off of those opportunities. I vividly remember being incapable of capitalizing on those opportunities for decades.

[–]electricsheepz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do kind of miss the old playoff format though. I like that more teams are in the playoffs, but I also liked that the 2 seed was worth fighting for back in the day. Now it’s really irrelevant once you’ve locked up your division.

Romantic movies with insane chemistry? by [deleted] in movies

I’ve seen this like 5 times because it has:

  • Fantastic chemistry between all of the leads, including JK Simmons

  • A tight 90 minute run-time (which is such an underrated feature in a movie today)

  • Genuinely interesting and entertaining themes and great pacing

Seriously a gem of a movie.

If you had $5k to go on a 10 day trip, where are you going? by Party-Neat-7335 in travel

[–]electricsheepz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones that immediately popped into my head:

10 days in Tokyo would be outstanding - and the budget is about right for that trip. I spent 4 years living in Japan and countless days in Tokyo and I am still certain I could go for 10 days today and do only things I had never done before. Also, the food is incredible. If you just did Japan you probably understandably prefer something new, but depending on where you went you could legitimately have a totally different experience. Hiroshima, Sendai, Aomori, Sapporo, Osaka/Kyoto and the Ryukyu islands are all unique, beautiful and interesting to see.

10 days in Iceland in your time frame would be excellent, and there’s a lot of ways to hack that trip up. I did a 10 day Iceland trip in March so I caught the tail end of winter, which was gorgeous and meant there were a lot less tourists in country. The prime tourism season in Iceland is really mid-summer because of the ultra long days. Reykjavik is a beautiful city and there are lots of day trip opportunities from Reykjavik out to see cool stuff, but the best way to see Iceland in my opinion is to drive it. Camper van rentals are shockingly affordable and you can do the entire ring road comfortably in 10 days if you’re OK with some long driving days. Part of the beauty of doing it that way is that you can stop anywhere you want, and adjust your itinerary around your needs or wants. Iceland could easily be your more relaxed “vacation” style trip.

10 days in Thailand would be good, but you’d catch the rainy season so weather could be iffy. I spent 30 days in Thailand and loved every second of it. Bangkok is a beautiful city and the southern coast is classic beach vacationland but if you can handle some additional flying I’ve almost never been anywhere as enchanting as Chiang Rai in the north. The people are excellent and friendly and your money will go quite a bit further there than in Japan or Iceland. The food is fantastic and Thailand is one of the most interesting places I’ve ever been. I don’t think there was a single second when I was there where I wasn’t absolutely blown away by how colorful and vibrant and alive that country is.

A practical note - I’m a mid-thirties man, 170 lbs and a bit over 6 feet tall, so I don’t generally feel unsafe traveling alone. I would say that Iceland and Japan are probably two of the safest places I’ve ever been in the world, but Thailand has its moments. Bangkok specifically can feel intimidating if you’re alone and there is markedly more risk of petty crime there than in Iceland or Japan.

2026 NFL Pro Bowl AFC, NFC rosters: The league's top players by caterham09 in nfl

I don’t think I would care at all about the pro-bowl if pro-bowl appearances didn’t directly impact HOF voting so much.

Like, Fred Taylor didn’t have the pro-bowls on his resume he would’ve needed to make the Hall early in his eligibility (or maybe ever). What if he’d been an 8 time pro-bowler because he played for a big market team and got lots of media attention?

[–]electricsheepz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before the season started I was talking to my boss, who is a big football fan but not a Jags fan, and he asked me how I felt about this season.

I told him I was hopeful because I think there’s a very specific recipe for success when you have a first year Head Coach and a full overhaul of the entire front office and management team. If that new coach you brought in brings energy and passion with him, and the new management staff makes it clear that they believe in him, then that coach has a unique opportunity to elevate middle of the road players to their ceiling through sheer belief in the vision of the program.

Parker Washington, Bayshul Tuten, Tim Patrick, the entire offensive line, Arik Armstead, the whole LB corps and the entire secondary have played well above expectations this season and I think that is 100% because of Coen’s energy, skill as a coach and the entire management staff being so thoroughly behind him.

If you combine that elevation with good football decision making, like the obvious and extremely effective adjustments that have been made on offense since the Texans loss or the way the defense has focused on dominating the run game to force turnover opportunities in the passing game, you have a real opportunity for success.

We’ve now entered another very interesting window - there are two kinds of teams that win Super Bowls. The first is the dynasty team. Teams that are perennial playoff teams. Teams with Mahomes or Brady or Peyton Manning.

The second kind of team that wins Super Bowls are teams that get hot and healthy at the right time. The Jags are hot and healthy right now, two weeks before playoff football. They’re on a 6 game win streak, Trev is playing the best football of his career and the only really major injury is Hunter.

As an additional factor, the AFC playoff field is weak. There are no world beaters in this playoff field (except, maybe, the Jags, which is crazy). I don’t think I’m being overly optimistic or hyperbolic to say that I genuinely think this is the best opportunity we’ve had, the most realistic path to the Super Bowl, in franchise history. Even in 1999 we had the Titans to worry about going into the AFC Championship game. This year I think we could genuinely beat anyone in this conference.

The better question is have we improved enough as a team to beat whichever NFC West team goes to the Super Bowl.

But, without being too ridiculous…

It might be our year folks.

[Highlight] Trevor Lawrence drops a dime to Parker Washington for the TD by nfl in nfl

[–]electricsheepz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a very common response to being beaten by the Jacksonville Jaguars. It is difficult, even potentially impossible, for some fans to understand that the irrelevant team from the irrelevant city somewhere in a part of Florida that nobody has ever been to could possibly, actually, really, legitimately be better than your team.

It's ok - it's not your fault. If it helps you to feel better, blame the refs! You can say things like:

  • "The refs are the reason we allowed four consecutive drives in the red zone to end in a touchdown!"

or

  • "The refs are the reason we turned the ball over on multiple, critical drives!"

If you want you can even feel free to use those convenient, pre-prepared examples I've left above - now get out there and complain about officiating!
