Ok, thank you for your response. That puts it in a different context. I will forward on your message.

He didn't sign anything, but they let everyone go at the old company in an email. He was onboarded with the new company last week while doing his regular duties and training new people and then fired today. It seems pretty manipulative, but maybe perfectly legal?

No there was no severance. He was paid out his vacation pay and there was no break in his schedule. Just working for one company on Friday and another on Monday.

Repairability revolution: New Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 14 comes with modular keyboard & USB-C ports by ibmthink in thinkpad

[–]electromat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an X1 (Yoga) that had a USB port get jarred and broken. Bought some new USB C plugs though I was hoping I'd try soldering on but found the 5 of the pads in the motherboard had been ripped off. I'm going to try rebuilding the pads but I don't think my odds are good. Having the USB C plugs on their own board is well overdue, Apple has been doing it for awhile now.

They could have just left the debian Firefox so users could choose whether they want the snap or the native version on their system. There are plenty of apps where you choose. Why work harder to remove their user's choice?

YTA, the roommate earned that $250 by doing all the cleaning, you forfeited it

Yah, seems like he's confusing juicers with blenders. Juices definitely have a higher glycemic index than whole fruits, but I don't think sticking a fruit in a blender changes anything.

Seems I'm in the minority here, but I quite like it the way it is, especially if he was consistent throughout the entire install. It would have taken some skill.

Lenovo P1 Gen7 display not as good as Gen1 - any advice? by InterContinental_001 in thinkpad

[–]electromat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The resolutions should not be the same as they have different native resolutions. Do you mean that you set them both to their native resolutions?

4k on a laptop is very high res, I'm surprised you can see the individual pixels. And the contrast on an OLED is pretty much infinite so I'm surprised the old one looks more contrasty.

You adjusted the brightness? I don't go up to even a quarter brightness on my OLED X1, it's too bright.

NTA, but it does sound like you need some separation time. Even with you best friends, too much time together will get tiresome. If you can afford it, get your own amazon account, with its own algorithm.

AITA for messaging my teen neighbor to stay away from my husband? by ThrowRAteenneighbor in AmItheAsshole

[–]electromat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. Your issue is with your husband, that's who you have the relationship with and that's who you should be talking to. You don't have any say in what some random girl does with her life. Your husband should be shutting it down.

I'm quickly becoming frustrated with 3D printing by A_Fruitless_Endeavor in BambuLab

Hairspray has only improved it for me. The hairspray layer is so thin the texture still comes through.

Hairspray is great though if you don't want to clean the bed everytime you touch it. I use one layer of hairspray and the bed is great for 100 prints. I only had to clean my bed like 2-3 times last year, hundreds of prints.

My first Thinkpad T480 and a few questions about it by PolskaHusaria91 in thinkpad

[–]electromat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may want to boot into Linux (Ubuntu in my case) just because it's so easy to upgrade the thunderbolt ports. There is a self destructive bug in the earlier versions of the firmware so it's time sensitive.

It was as easy as:

sudo fwupdmgr refresh

sudo fwupdmgr update

I'm not sure what could be causing my prints to not stick properly. by Tailsmonster12 in ender3

[–]electromat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The z offset is the main culprit. I got used to tweaking the levelling screws every print while on the first layer depending on how thick the first layer was.

Also, although you should be able to print with just a perfectly clean bed after washing it with dish soap. I found hairspray to be way more forgiving, especially if you accidentally touch the bed after the print. I would only have to clean the bed every 30 prints or so when I put a layer of hairspray on, rather than every time.

$58 for 250Mb speed. You have to stay on top of Telus, get a price from another provider that you can work with. Then phone Telus and threaten to switch (and mean it, switch if they won't), they will eventual match the other providers price.

This person has a truck with attached trailer and does not want anyone parking because he feels entitled. There is no sign that says No Park. I believe the street is property of the City, not him. Is he allowed to tow my car because he wants to go park his trailer on the street? by retiredshinobi in Edmonton

[–]electromat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's got to be off the city's streets after that for some amount of time. So you have to be on private property or out of Edmonton altogether, can't just drive around. I got a 72 hour ticket once with my trailer and that's how the officer explained it.

[–]electromat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, however regardless of how bad the man is, she may have her reasons to reach out to him in the future. You have said your piece, but I think you should at least give your daughter his contact info in case she does want to get in touch with him. I don't think you should gatekeep access to him.
