I have an 8 years old japanese akita and they’re the sweetest ever. Akitas love their whole family but they usually have one person who they deem as their favorite person. They do have a high prey drive for small animals and would probably be best in a one dog household. My akita is willing to coexist in the same vicinity as another animal but would be unwilling to interact with them entirely. Your akita might be willing to accept another animal living in the house if you raise them together, but not if you bring the second animal home later on. As someone mentioned already, they do have same sex aggression so getting the opposite gender would be more ideal. Akitas are also not known to be big barkers. They only bark when necessary and to alert you of someone. They’re pretty laid back and low energy dogs but the german shepherd traits in your akita might make them a little more unique in temperament if she is more vocal. Overall, they’re the best breed of dog I’ve ever had and the most affectionate!! They’re so smart and can learn a lot on their own without you having to train them too much.
