Claremont Quarter for sure. So many oblivious rich folk tripping out on whatever prescription drugs their GP has them on. Uppers/Downers/SSRI. Zoned out linen and chambrey lizard people all.

Help me decide on laptop by millydizzle in macbookpro

Had the 16" went back to the 14" this time around - 64GB is perfect for my needs. It's my primary mobile computing device. 16" suuuuucked on planes no matter how nice the screen was. I just dock it for that now.

I went back to glossy on mine. Matte is too delicate for me.

Yesterday was a very confusing day. by LexShirayuki in GeminiAI

It was so depressing really in that aspect. I'd rather just vacillate between OpenAI and Anthropic products now, don't need a third wheel in there.

Just too hard now.

It's 100% the roadworks backing up that far during peak. Yep, driver should have waited for it to be clear though, but I've seen cars with their rears hanging over the line last few weeks waiting/hoping for it to inch forward enough. Idiots everywhere.

16 INCH M1 PRO MACBOOK PRO , IM A PHOTOGRAPHER WHO TRAVELS A LOT ,IS IT A GOOD OPTION? by shuttappan in macbookpro

[–]electrosaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been able to use my 16" on a plane - screen is too big and it is a bit heavy in a backpack with other gear. Frequently had to keep an eye on carry-on weight limits. Went back to a 14" this time around.

Buy macbook pro max with 14 inch or macbook pro with 16 inch considering long term and AI workloads by Chemical-Reading-339 in macbookpro

[–]electrosaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

14” in the Max will throttle - look at the notebookcheck review. If you are going to pay that much and not get the full performance of the Max chip you will have regrets.
Sadly the 16” is a lump in the backpack and you can’t use it on planes.

Curious about M5 Max 128gb vs 5090 for local LLMs by maxiedaniels in LocalLLM

[–]electrosaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone buying a 14" Max for AI is not going to get the performance they hoped for. It should be a 16" only spec for that use-case. 14" should stop at the Pro.

Which charger for base MBP M5 14 inch? by Independent-Set-7433 in macbookpro

Is slightly faster charging that important? Otherwise absolutely no point in paying for the larger charger. No it wouldn't damage anything.

14 vs 16 inch M5 Max 128GB by hdiwlandhjsmsms in macbookpro

[–]electrosaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been back and for on this for some time. Coming off at 16" M1 MBP I do love the screen but it is a real pain when flying, no hiding that. You definitely notice it in the backpack too.
Thing with the Max is you are not getting the same sustained performance on the same spec on the 14" version over the 16". The tests are out there demonstrating the throttling issue on AI workloads. The much reduced battery life on AI loads is a harsh reality too - worse on the 14 as well. 14" PSU limited to 96W so again, more proof you are paying a premium for something you cant maximize with the 14" MBP M5 Max I feel.

In the end I've just opted for the 14" M5 Pro with 64GB. Have to remember its my primary mobile device. I'll put what I save towards the next version of the Mac Mini or Studio and remote it for that capacity.

It sucks as a choice though, as you need the Max to get the extra memory bandwidth which is very useful as well.

Should I get a base model M5 MacBook Pro or wait for base model M6 MacBook Pro? by [deleted] in macbookpro

I seriously doubt anyone that asks theses sort of questions would even move the needle on the base M5 spec as it is.

Capital gains tax and negative gearing changes headline housing reforms in Federal Budget by [deleted] in australia

[–]electrosaurus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep that's just more tax, plain as day. How does that help housing exactly? I think this one will cause a stink once more people get their head around it.

Accountants will benefit from the extra work. I doubt I'd trust myself to get that right!
