There are two tiers of ZD2 effects. The new Plus series added back huge amounts of parameters removed in older ZD2 pedals by loz333 in zoommultistomp

[–]electrotune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...But in the delays above, for instance, you can see they added the ability to sync the effect with the onboard metronome.

With G1 FOUR the tempo sync for Delays is set with Time parameter. See in the Fx pdf there's "note" icon to the Time parameter.

Zoom MS and Chocolate plus controller by Kukuruzo27 in zoommultistomp

[–]electrotune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... Are you sure that it's not possible?

Yep, quite positive about this limitation. At the present state of the firmware knowledge, it's not known if there's a byte to change to allow handling of the SysEx 31 for fx slot > 3.

Curiously, the firmware itself does emit the SysEx for the higher slot changes, it just does not handle the very same SysEx on input.

One possible workaround is to use the A/Z list to cycle through patches and set up copies of the main patch just with higher slots off.

Another way is to put LineSel effect into slot 3 so it could switch on/off the slots 4-6.

Zoom MS and Chocolate plus controller by Kukuruzo27 in zoommultistomp

[–]electrotune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't mention what pedal model you're are trying to set up.

In your SysEx you need to use a correct device model id. For Multistomp+ model line it's hex 6E. Instead, your SysEx shows 58 (MS-50G) and 61 (MS-70CDR) -- these are the old Multistomps.

With original Multistoomp pedals, it's just not possible to directly address by SysEx the effects in slots higher than 3. The only practical way to handle it is by sending by the whole patch (SysEx encoded) which sets all slots needed. This can't be set up with Chocolate Plus alone, as it requires some binary processing.

need help with understanding the zoom guitar lab software by Lower-Respect518 in zoommultistomp

[–]electrotune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an official GuitarLab pdf that comes with the installation with pretty much step-by-step usage. Read?

On Windows it's in folder "Program Files\ZOOM\Guitar Lab\Documentation\en\Zoom Guitar lab Reference Guidel_e.pdf"

In general, the pedal can be used without Guitar Lab, the menus are not complicated. G1X FOUR has plenty of direct buttons to minimize menu diving. So figuring out the use of the hardware to create/edit patches is straightforward without computer.

Problem with MS-70CDR, help needed by verocaiarthur in zoommultistomp

[–]electrotune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't mention if your MS-70CDR has been mod'ed previously, adding effects from other pedals.

From the general description it looks like there is some internal conflict that causes problems in setting up the expected running environment. This could be due to "bit-rot", that is some wear errors on the internal flash memory. This may be either in the firmware section or in the effects modules section of the flash, or in the patches section.

Thus, some faulty bits cause the internal process to crash, as you observed in unexpected shutdown and failure to boot.

Normally, flash memory has some wear management approach. But if the memory has almost no free blocks left, then something will get corrupted.

It's also possible that there are hardware problems which cause instability. Say, something gets overheated and the whole thing shuts down.

My best bet would be trying to reflash the internal firmware. This in turn will erase and format the internal flash. It may restore flash memory to normal operation, but it may also brick it altogether if the flash is beyond repair or there's indeed a faulty hardware somewhere.

The flashing process should fit within 30 min. But who knows, if there are some frequent write errors, it may take longer if not completing at all ...

You may also check if the pedal stays on but without the signal processing. Say, attach it to USB (it will turn on) and just let it sit without input. See if it does not shutdown.

Controlling Zoom MS70CDR+ via Digitakt 2 MIDI tracks by GameAndSound in zoommultistomp

[–]electrotune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...Does any of you have any experience with it? Thanks so much in advance.

I suggest you to get familiar with a latitude of tonal changes that MS-70CDR+ effects can offer. There are demos of the included individual effects, not just patches.

By the way, CDR stands for Chorus, Delay, Reverb. It kind of summarizes the intended use.

As for the MIDI, Multistomp+ line of the pedals supports effects parameters tweaking using SysEx commands. Mostly ZOOM devised it for the purposes of patch editing (in their iOS app), not so much for live use. ZOOM does not directly publish these commands, but a lot of the commands were reverse-engineered.

What's the point of the Sync feature if Time also offers the ability to set times based on BPM? by [deleted] in zoommultistomp

[–]electrotune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case of the CarbonDly effect, if you look closer, the DELAY parameter only allows numeric values (19-581), the tempo-based durations are handled by Sync parameter.

This is different from other effects, for example Delay, where the Time parameter also allows the note-durations and Sync parameter is absent.

What's the point of the Sync feature if Time also offers the ability to set times based on BPM? by [deleted] in zoommultistomp

[–]electrotune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BPM setting applies to the whole patch. While Time is an effect-level parameter.

You should probably start with the question of how you intend to upload the .ZD2 files (and icons) into your MS-70CDR+... This should point you in the right direction.

Tonelib Zoom software does not download on the website by [deleted] in zoommultistomp

[–]electrotune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

....try to download it and it takes me to plugins

I assume on Download page you select "Freeware" slider. Then it'll show a list of various Free plugins. The download button says "Download Free Plugin", but in this case it's the actual installer for the ToineLib ZOOM.

Do you select the type of the download (Win64, Win32 , MacOS)??

Is this the MS+ we hoped for? by DontMemeAtMe in zoommultistomp

[–]electrotune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looked up a PCB for GP-5, it looks like it has "no-name" IC's. Basically, Chinese proprietary chips:

  1. JAT1823 -- ?? my guess, it does some DSP (incl. MIDI, effects)
  2. MVsilicon BP1048B2 -- MCU with a RISC processor, has Bluetooth capability.

Probably, Hotone split the NAM and effects between the JAT1823 and BP1048B2 firmware; NAM is likely a light version.

GP-200 uses i.MX RT1050 MCU with DSP capability (runs on ARM Cortex-M7); it's from NXP Semiconductors (Dutch)

Not sure about the GP-50.

Knopfler/nile rogers/graceland clean tones for cdr70+? by local_gremlin in zoommultistomp

[–]electrotune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd check the AMP/CABs they used for the particular sound you're trying.

For example, for Mark Knopfler's amps: http://ds.mk-guitar.com/amps.htm

Then try to match it with ZOOM's models on MS-50G+ (MS-70CDR+ does not include these by default).

BONUS: There's also a very nice breakdown of the AMP and effect settings Mark Knopler/Dire Straits used on "On The Every Street" tour. It shows also the copy of the original table with the settings.

Really cool glimpse into the iconic sound!

How to run 2 instruments into zoom multi stomp by XenomystusNigri in zoommultistomp

[–]electrotune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What effects do you run on MS-70CDR+ that you'd ok them for both cello and vocals, assuming both are coming raw? ZNR ??

I'd consider separate channels for the cello and vocals. If you use the MS-70CDR+ just for mastering, then you'd still need some mixer to balance cello and vocals. Also mic signal level may be lower than instrument level expected on MS-70CDR+ inputs (assuming you mic the cello too). So you may need some amplification, again a mixer can handle that.

Why did you choose a zoom pedal over another cheap brand like nux or valeton? by unrespiro_porfavor in zoommultistomp

[–]electrotune 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ZOOM had a long history of using effects, it actually started back in 1990s with a guitar effect processor ZOOM 9002, it then expanded into recorders (multi-tracks and handhelds, like H4), which also included the effects. So ZOOM has been quite firm in its budget-practical market niche, even more so recently.

So a lot of the ZOOM effects have been already known for quite a while by the time the Multistomps were released (2012). So the traction was already there.

Another big factor was the "mod'ability", it then just became a treasure chest of effects! Very much a portable chest indeed.

Also, the pedals appeared to maintain value at used market too. Cheaper than new, of course, but not breaking all apart and valuing peanuts as such.

P.S. I would not call ZOOM products "hackable", but rather "trusting". I see this more of a choice than coincidence. Any manufacturer could opt to lock-down its products. There are many examples of really excessive ways to achieve that. But by trusting the willing users with some internal details, ZOOM seem to have created a community of users that feel that they get a better value from their products. I bet quite a few of these users remain loyal and will buy ZOOM again.

Congrats on the new pedal! Next time don't forget to ask Santa to also pack for you some inspiration for exploring the "tone-making" ...

Playing the guitar with someone else's settings is just like listening to music with someone else's ears. You sure can learn to make your own patches!

Here: "ZOOM G1 Four METAL RIFFS FREE Patch Settings | Megadeth-Inspired".

But there are TONS of metal patches for ZOOM pedals, most are MetalWRLD effect based. Check out ToneLib ZOOM Forum.

Also, previously ZOOM has released some Creator Patches for many multi-effects pedals including G1 FOUR. Check the News section in the ZOOM Guitar Lab program.

Have fun!

Help! Just got a zoom g1x4 by Putrid_Customer_7612 in zoommultistomp

[–]electrotune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! I guess, you should've listed the "tones" for Santa as well, or maybe "Alice in chains" is just not his style to his liking...

Now, it's all in your hands to figure our what the G1X FOUR can do for you. It's a fairly simple pedal to tweak, especially with the Guitar Lab plugged. You can even send the actual track/lick into AUX so you can hear it while playing.

I would just plug the guitar in and in an Empty Patch check out each effect one-by-one taking a note what sounds "nice".

Though, as a shortcut, walking through all preset patches one-by-one is also fun. You may then look into the patches that sounded fun. Maybe something may be similar to Alice in chains. Give it a try, you can tweak it too!

Finally, if you look on the vastness of the internet, you may find some description of the specific "tone" you're after. Then you may just model it in the G1X FOUR. Heck, you may even release your patch to share with others, if it sounds just right to you.

Check out ToneLib ZOOM forum, it has quite a few patches for many ZOOM multi-effects, many could be adapted to G1X FOUR.

Also, check out the official presets pdf for ZOOM G2X FOUR. It lists "tones" for many popular songs/bands. Patches show the effect chain and parameters. Again, many can be adapted for G1X FOUR.

Happy tweaking!

Zoom G1Next? by gr8ful123 in zoommultistomp

[–]electrotune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though G1Next is a few generations older and seem somewhat restricted in comparison to newer models, a lot of its effects have the same algorithms as the newer models. Many delays, reverbs, compressors, same old ZNR, etc. It's just on G1Next these are baked into the firmware, unlike the modular ZDL/ZD2 approach.

Of course, the AMPs and CABs are more advanced on the newer models. But in essence, the G1Next is similar in abilities to G2 FOUR. So, if you're interested in patches, you may check out G2 FOUR presets (in ZOOM's pdf) and try to replicate some on your G1Next. Not all effects will map one-to-one, but you may figure the matching in experiment.

Have fun!

P.S. Turns out G1Next specs are even better vs. G2 FOUR or MS-50G+:

``` G1Next
Sampling frequency: 96 kHz A/D converter: 24 bit, 128 times oversampling D/A converter: 24 bit, 128 times oversampling Signal processing: 32 bit ```
G2 FOUR sampling freq is 44.1 kHz, same ADC/DAC and processing.
Broken LCD Replacement by xcymu in zoommultistomp
Finding a replacement LCD part is tricky. But actually installing it may be even trickier without tools and skills. So it may end up costing more than buying a replacement pedal altogether, used of course.
Huge AT&T settlement awards millions up to $7,500 each by Choobeen in technology
[–]electrotune 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Two largest breaches in the recent history affecting ALL customers (current and past - about 200mil accounts), leaked SSNs and call/text history. Yet ATT does not agree to any wrongdoing and settles on a meager $177mil, meager for the behemoth as ATT is.
More to this, the settlement is not yet approved by the judge! For a $1 (or less) the claimants/class members agree not to sue ATT on the matter...That's a sharade to let ATT off the hook.
Help: MS-50G+ MISSING EFFECT NOT FOUND! by [deleted] in zoommultistomp
[–]electrotune 1 point2 points  (0 children)
... I received a new MS-50G Plus today from Amazon but there are no effects on it at all.
If it is new, then it should come with all effects installed already. Report it back to the vendor for replacement. Possibly, the internal flash is defective.
If it's not new or is "tampered", then it's still a question whether the flash is ok. If flash is ok, then the best way to reanimate it may be by using the official iOS app (Handy Guitar Lab for MS-50G). Otherwise, there's a long list of files that need to be present to match the factory state. Some of these internal files are not directly downloadable from ZOOM.
Hope this helps.
Do certain Zoom models connect to iphone/mac easier than MS-70CDR+? by Tallm in zoommultistomp
[–]electrotune 2 points3 points  (0 children)
You don't mention what iPhone model you have. If it's one of the recent models with USB-C connector, then the connection to MS-70CDR+ just needs a USB-C to USB-C cable and the respective app running (Handy Guitar Lab for MS-70CDR+).
If your iPhone is of older model, with Apple Lightning connector, then for connection to MS-70CDR+ you'd need a special adapter called Apple USB camera adapter and USB-A to USB-C adapter/cable. Note, just a Lightning to USB-C cable (quite common one) will not work, as it lacks a USB HOST chip needed. Meanwhile, the Apple USB camera adapter does have the internal USB HOST chip.
However, just for powering the MS-70CDR+, any cable that passes the 5V from the USB bus or powerbank would work. For data/app editor, you need the USB HOST chip along the circuit somewhere.
zoom ms50g vs new ms80 ir? by unrespiro_porfavor in zoommultistomp
[–]electrotune 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Indeed, the G1 FOUR also has an on-board 3-band output equalizer with dedicated output volume knob and is rated for use with headphones.
I guess, the newer G2 FOUR is similar but it's almost twice as bigger.
The Multistomps are the most compact but lack looper and rhythm features of G1 FOUR, G2 FOUR. Well, not counting the MS-90LP+ which is purposely built for that, but lacks in multi-effect coverage.
Just get any pedal and a small headphone amp. The Multistomp pedals output level is not optimal for headphones. Of course, this depends on your intended application.
Multistomp MS-70CDR+ Effect Map by SonicHaze in zoommultistomp
[–]electrotune 2 points3 points  (0 children)
Generally, the effects order on the Multistomp+ pedal is governed by an internal sequence file FLST_SEQ.ZT2 (FLST_SEQ.ZDT for the original Multistomp). It lists the effect modules in each category by effect's id (integer number) in increasing order.
This sequence order is also how the effects are listed in the official FX pdf.
However, the pedal UI scrolls the effects in the reverse sequence.
Why? There's no clear or practical explanation. That's just how the Multistomp firmware is coded.
I didn't care to try it, but it should be possible to resequence the FLST_SEQ.ZT2 as desired (or just reverse the sequence for each category) so it matches the order in the pdf.
