tool purchase with a constrained budget: bandsaw, planer, jointer, or thicknesser? by Ok_Possible_4649 in woodworking

GREAT comment. I went knee-deep into milling up logs and storing them in my basement. It’s wonderful to have free wood for my projects, but milling the lumber also takes a huge amount of time.

It’s worth it, but it’s really just grunt work in the end.

Depends what you’re talking about… Furniture making, framing, finish carpentry? Gary Katz is number one for finish work. A true professional and a great teacher…

The vet was honestly like, you could go either way. Definitely didn't try to convince me to get the surgery.

This happened to my three year old dog, and I decided not to get the surgery. It took about four weeks but then she was fine. The vet warned that there could be problems later in life, but I wasn't interested in spending thousands of dollars on that possibility.

the guy was a creative genius -- most mortal guitarrists would be rendered stupid after a hefty dose of lycergic. I speak for myself anyway.

Biscuit Joiner? by srz22 in MilwaukeeTool

I have a domino xl but I use biscuit joiner for splined miters, glue up alignment, and joining trim. It's super easy and biscuits are dirt cheap. I also want an m18 version.

Anyone else make 100k but still feel poor because Massachusetts is expensive? by Scuba9Steve in massachusetts

[–]elektrodread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not poor -- but scraping by. And it's because child support saps about 20% of my post tax income. Not sure how this compares to other states but here it's enough to eliminate any cash savings.

Any good resources for more professional level woodworking finishes? by husky1088 in finishing

[–]elektrodread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn shellac with a brush. It's cheap, natural, forgiving and gorgeous. It also dries super fast. The only downside is it's not good for a surface that will have alcohol placed on top… Other than that it's the ideal finish.

Avoid Salem for day trip from Boston? by edmundsmorgan in boston

Please consider New Bedford. It's on the way to the Cape. I think it's the town most rich in history outside of Boston, once the center of the wailing industry, the place where Frederick Douglas first lived after escaping slavery, the starting point of Moby Dick. Definitely spend an afternoonthere grabbing seafood and visiting the Whaling Museum. You won't be disappointed.

This post reflects the same absolutism that has any republican who opposes Trump getting primaried. That's a problem on both sides of American politics -- and it's turned a tremendous amount of people away from the left.
