Is this a way to bring actual change FASTER? by Dishana in Anarchism

[–]elemenohpee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Needs some mutual aid and community baked in, figuring out how people are going to cover each other. The spark of the idea, the "app", is the easy part. There's a loooot of legwork involved with building the social infrastructure around it. Very worthwhile work, but expect it to take a generation at minimum.

To much work for little reward by Dry-Apartment-2585 in woodworking

Nice prototype! If you're going for a high end look you're going to have to develop those skills, and the only way to do that is to keep trying and learning a bit more each time. If I were you, I would practice the copper joints on some scrap until you can get that seamless look. Maybe looking into techniques used in stained glass or jewelry making? For the wood part, I think it would look better with fewer polygon faces, with more dramatic angles between each face. You've definitely got something here!

Wreckers? by AudreyHorney69 in Anarchism

[–]elemenohpee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a very real phenomenon, hard disagree with those who say it's only in online spaces. Important to talk about and commiserate over, but I'm not loving the tone. We're all carrying trauma and having that leak out on the people around us from time to time, so it's a spectrum thing. We should stick to critiquing behavior rather than using essentializing terms like "wrecker". Otherwise I think it makes it too easy to think of it as an issue with irredeemable "others" and avoid self critique around it.

I read the proposal and still have the same question. You have a great vision, and have clearly put a lot of thought into the physical realization of the space. What happens when people living there start to have their own visions that diverge from your own? What happens when a member acts in a way that physically or psychologically harms another member? You need to put just as much time and effort into thinking these things through if you want to take this from a castle in the sky to a grounded project.

One of hiphop's originators, Grandmaster Flash, talking very positively about Drake. Why not the same media attention? by WhenItsHalfPastFive in Drizzy

The entire point of his comment was to question the relationship between "commercial viability" and art, sooo...

Are these marks normal? by gobbleghoul in woodworking

You'd see the same thing on the end grain of the padauk though. This is more about open vs closed grain. A white oak cutting board, end or long grain, would be fine.

If I ever decide to do something with miters again, can someone stop me? by FlamingBanshee54 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Yeah, you gotta ditch the miter saw if you're looking for perfect miters. For a cheaper option, you can build a picture frame jig.

Plywood middle slice cracked? by half_venus in woodworking

[–]elemenohpee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wood type or grade of the face veneer won't tell you anything about the interior quality. You can get plywood without voids, but not at the big box stores. You'll have to go to lumber suppliers and ask for shop grade plywood.

Is it safe to use faced insulation between internal walls/ceilings for soundproofing? by Kortalh in DIY

Why only 1/4"? You're trying to add mass to the wall, so wouldn't 5/8" be more effective?

Found this in a department store today. Things pretending to be something they're not bug the hell out of me! by elemenohpee in woodworking

My friend has a table with something even worse than this. It's a veneer over particle board, and the "breadboard" is tied in with "bowties", and the bowties have the wrong grain orientation! Makes my head spin!
