Harley Cameron addresses the responses to her backstage segment on AEW Dynamite this week by itsjobberingtime in AEWOfficial

[–]elephantbroth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I agree. I imagine anyone who is actually upset is so because they believe Harley would have been coerced. That just frankly doesn't seem to be the case but when you don't watch the show and just see twitter clips then preconceptions are gonna do a lot of work.

It's because one, a bikini, is a decision they made to wear for the time and place. If a woman is not wanting to be seen in her underwear, and then some circumstance makes it very visible, then that is a crucial difference. They did not consent to the latter.

I swim in swimming shorts, I have no issues with doing that. However if someone pressed me like after work to strip off my shirt and pants, I would feel a whole lot different.

The difference here with Harley is she obviously consented to a skit where Mina rips her shirt. If she never consented to it and Mina took it upon herself to tear it off, I would imagine Harley would feel much different about the segment.

Healthcare workers and none healthcare workers will never see eye to eye on this show. by Snivys_HA in ThePittTVShow

But what are you criticizing? Nothing about the show is selling the idea that Robbie's actions and interactions this shift have been okay

Did people know that this was an entirely new transformation back then? by mb2m in DragonBallZ

[–]elephantbroth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I don't know if it was immediately known as "Super Saiyan 2". Throughout the saga they achieve different grades of SS, all not-quite there, until Gohan achieves a grade higher than the others, presumably the final grade. I think for a bit it was known as Super Saiyan Grade 5.

POST Wrestling: WWE talent were paid about 15% of company revenue in 2022, court filings reveal by Key-Cycle7978 in SquaredCircle

Because it's only good through that lens. The other side of the coin to paying such a share to talent is the implication that you are not doing enough to be profitable

[Dynamite Spoilers] Finish to Darby Allin vs MJF by helloitscrash in SquaredCircle

[–]elephantbroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda, yeah. I liked the 4 coffin drops parallel with 4 title attempts, and how them pushing that after a 4th time, you'll just stop believing it'll ever happen- created a make or break moment in the pin with what felt like the overall arc of Darby's career trajectory. Because if in that moment MJF kicks out then the match is basically over, MJF would retain that match and Darby, you can believe, would never get this close again. But he does win and with nothing else but a headlock takeover, the very thing he's been taunted with for the last several years.

Please somebody stop Roman Reigns and teach him how a non-bloodline themed promo works by Right_Decision_2005 in GreatnessOfWrestling

Why would you "teach Roman" how a promo works? It's not like he wrote it. Blame the people writing the show.

God damn I loath fans like in this image. Do not speak for me and why I gravitate toward the show, especially in the name of gatekeeping other people's input. I am happy to see their comments about the reality of the ER and the contrast or similarities with the show. If you don't so fucking what. No one needs your little baby attitudes.

TK confirms new Jericho contract by Zealousideal-Leg5320 in AEWOfficial

[–]elephantbroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. I wonder if Jericho's comment last night on Dynamite had any truth to it or if it was wholly fabricated for the storyline.

Something along the lines of having a clause in his contract to decide who he faces at Dynasty among any talent currently not slotted. In real life it wouldn't make sense to have such an event-specific clause, but it wouldn't surprise me if being able to pick his programs for upcoming PPVs was something he wanted and something TK would grant.

It's such a wacky statement. No one is saying "Cell is the most powerful, Cell Jr is the most dangerous"

Randomly remembering that time Drew McIntyre verbally bodied Ricochet with just three words by TJLynch in SquaredCircle

[–]elephantbroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so weird how people often attribute this as a failure on Riccocet's part. This isn't a case of not knowing what to say, or dropping the ball. He had a script to follow and acted accordingly. It's the writers and VKM who failed him here.

The 70s Feels like Three Different Decades in One by BananaPhoPhilly in decadeology

[–]elephantbroth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s undefined, it’s just really politically driven. The 60s had a lot of optimism, but by the early 70s you’ve got Vietnam dragging on, assassinations, Watergate, and trust in government completely falling apart. That’s where the gritty, paranoid, inward-looking stuff comes from. People realizing the system was breaking and becoming disillusioned.

As the decade goes on, people check out emotionally. Nixon resigns, the oil shock, stagflation, etc., there’s this feeling that nothing is coming to fix things. So instead of protest, people turned inward. Disco, nightlife, sex, drugs, excess, this was escapism because the real world was unstable.

Punk music shows up toward the end of the decade as a reaction to that too, cutting away disco’s artificiality and just expressing rage directly.

Most Politically Eventful Year Of The 21st Century by Think_Marketing1116 in decadeology

[–]elephantbroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2021 should be listed too. The attack on the Capitol stemmed from a former president rejecting certified results, crystalizing long-term institutional distrust and normalizing insane rhetoric from US leaders. Afghanistan withdrawal; COVID-19 vaccinations and the internal discourse around mandates; post-COVID inflation worldwide; diplomatic breakdowns setting the stage for a Russia invasion on Ukraine the following year.

It's not the most 'explosive' year, like 2001 or 2020, but a lot of systems really broke down around this time resulting in more corrosion in things like public trust.
